When free ticket contests start popping up a week before the show, you just know that tickets aren't selling well and they're giving away many pairs of tickets to keep the house from looking empty.
Without further adieu, here's a new contest for next week's The National show at Agganis Arena:

Out of curiosity, I totaled the available seats in all sections (except for Floor 1, for which hovering over the section does not show an available total). As of yesterday, there were just about 200 seats left, plus an unspecified number of Floor 1 tickets.

There's no more available Floor 1 at this point on TM. Wish I knew that yesterday, since I spent $15 more on Stubhub for a ticket in there. But either way, 200 open seats ain't bad for a venue that fits 8,000.

I wish I had listened to the new album before buying a ticket. I absolutely hate it and have no desire to sit through the 10 or 11 new songs they're doing every night to get to the 7 or 8 old songs I want to hear and which will likely be performed.

I think "absolutely hate it" is a bit strong. It's not my favorite but it's a nice complementary piece to their catalog. I can respect them trying something different. Also a couple of the songs are really good, though i think the album as a whole is a bit boring. Like most National songs, they'll probably sound a lot better live.

Because of the female vocals? FWIW, I already saw them earlier this year and you could actually barely hear the guest vocalist in the mix for some reason. So you may get lucky on that aspect.

For me, it's their weakest since Alligator, but I still think it's a pretty solid album all around. It feels a bit too long and stretched out, but there's a few incredible songs in there. I'm pretty excited for the show tomorrow, as they'll put on a great show as they always do.

It's not just the guest vocalists. It's because it's sounds too much like Bon Iver for my tastes. There's nothing wrong with Bon Iver sounding like Bon Iver, but my taste in The National songs leans towards their more rocking stuff. Give me The System Only Dreams..., Sea Of Love, and Bloodbuzz, OH over Guilty Party or I Need My Girl any day of the week.

So, I was right down in front at the Low Cut Connie show tonight at the Royale. During one song, band members held out a mic for fans in the front row to scream "Hey." As one of the singers moved the mic towards me, I leaned in and was bopped in the nose by the mic.
I was really surprised at how sparsely attended the show was. The main floor was only 40-45% filled and the balcony wasn't even open. (I suspect that some people who'd be into LCC had already bought tickets for the Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul show at the Chevalier in Medford happening tonight, too. Ironically, since the same company owns/books both the Chevalier and the Wilbur, had the show been booked at the Wilbur, it would have been possible to see both, since LCC opened and was off stage by 8 pm.)
I stayed for the first 15-20 min. of Big Freedia, but it was soooo not my cup of tea, so I left.

Wow, it looks like Sturgill Simpson wildly overestimated his drawing ability. The TD Garden show has sold out the standing room-only floor, but without any behind-the-stage sections available, around six sections are filled, with tickets available in 40 sections (most with 100+ available tickets).
Not including service charges, tickets are priced at $100.50, $80.50, and $50.50, which is wildly overpriced for an act that's sold so few tickets. Really, they may need to slash ticket prices in half to draw a respectable turnout.
As tempted as I am to buy a ticket now, this is going to be all over Goldmine, Groupon, etc., plus the contest giveways will be plentiful.
This is, perhaps, the biggest overestimation of an artist's drawing ability, ever.

Isn't that just the new dynamic pricing in action? A show not selling out right away is no longer a metric, since the promoter will just reduce the price categories.
Has anyone sat in the club level seats at the Garden since the installation of new seats last summer? Are they still as wide and still providing as much leg room and cushioning, as they did before?

Not yet, but speaking of the new TD Garden seating: I was in the loge last night and the new seating setup was fine while standing during the entire show. However, when seated between people, it felt like being at the super tight and in-need-of-a building-rehab Orpheum Theatre. I can imagine it getting uncomfortable if you had to sit at the Garden for two hours.
All this construction and the bus shuttles on the T makes me want to avoid Boston shows for a while (after tonight). Though that Daughters/Health show at Paradise is tempting.
Going to the Garden tonight for Elton John. Haven't been there since they put in the new seats, so we'll see how it goes.
Went to big night live for the first time to see Danny Brown. Absolutely gorgeous venue and great sound but drinks were stupid expensive and Security was kinda rude. Interesting to see a regular concert venue with VIP tables.

I saw Erykah Badu there. Awesome venue! No issues with staff for me. I thought drinks were standard for Boston.

13 for a vodka tonic and like 9 for a beer was what i was referring to lol. its not nearly that expensive at the royale, paradise, or any other smaller venue. its the same as house of blues id say tho. So it's expensive for a low-mid size venue i should say

Paid $20 extra to pass the line at the HOB to get front row for FKA twigs... and then after 90 mins of waiting, the fucking fire alarm went off and everybody got evacuated.
Luckily we could go back in and while my mood went way downhill after getting a lesser spot upon re-entry, twigs' show was amazing and made up for all the shenanigans.
