Jared Lorenzen died. The SEC football fans among you might remember him. He played QB for Kentucky and won a Super Bowl ring as Eli Manning's back-up despite clocking at like 300+ pounds during parts of his pro career. After he retired from his playing career, he continued to struggle with his weight and was at least 500 pounds at one point. Despite losing around 100 pounds, he apparently died from an acute infection which was exacerbated by heart and kidney problems due to obesity.
I honestly don't know anything about him outside of that joke on the office.
He was chairman of Chrysler and turned them around out of bankruptcy. He had something to do with the Mustang as well but earlier in his career.
I read his book in... Middle School maybe? Those are the two things I remembered about him too.
Learned today that in the 80's he was a big part of calling attention to the role that Ellis Island played in the immigrant experience in America. I have to dig in a bit more on that though.
I just read he passed. 1996 would have been my first voting election but due to an error on the Rock the Vote registration mine didn't go through until 6 weeks after the election regardless that I registered in March with my boyfriend at the time. His registration went through just fine. Anyway, anytime I hear his name, all I think about is Dana Carvey's SNL skits.
