EDIT: I am a huge Quantum Leap fan. The first time I saw Scott Bakula in the French Quarter filming NCIS: New Orleans, I fangirled out and literally shouted "I love Quantum Leap." He laughed smiled and waved. I was super embarrassed. Mostly because it was just a gut reaction and I didn't even realize I said it as loudly as I did. But man that sucks Dean Stockwell was an amazing actor.
I used to go on SA sometimes in high school, mainly to read the Your Band Sucks guy, Dr. David Thorpe. I remember the name lowtax, but nothing else really about him. A lot of former SA posters on Twitter seem to really not have liked him, and he was accused of domestic violence sometime last year.
but by all accounts anything good on that site happened in spite of him.
Accurate.
It's definitely been interesting to see all the nostalgic posts and stories coming out of the woodwork. Been posting on SA forums since 2002. Various stuff was toxic, but overall I got more good stuff than bad stuff out of it.
One of my brothers hit me up and told me John Goodsall died. I couldn’t confirm it on the web, but he must have seen it on some deep end progressive shit he follows. So I trust him enough to post an RIP. He’s the greatest guitarist that literally almost nobody knows. He was the fastest, playing blazing scales yet still having emotion. Lennon, in “That’s why I go for that rock and roll music” says, I got no kick against modern jazz. Unless they try to play it too darn fast. And lose the beauty of the melody. Until it sounds just like a symphony.’ But he’s also partially full of shit, because some of the faster songs or parts of some of those bands like Brand X or Mahavishnu Orchestra was dripping with emotion.
The loss of Goodsall along with the last few years deaths of Allan Holdsworth and EVH cost us 3 top 6 talents. Goodsall came out of Atomic Rooster, who ruled in their ow right, but made his mark in Brand X. Brand X is a progressive jazz/rock band that was usually a 5 or 6 piece that featured Goodsall on guitar, Percy Jones on bass, also some long timers on percussion and keys plus Phil Collins on drums on some of the albums. His work with Brand X was much more aggressive and complicated than his drum work on what post-Gabriel Genesis was becoming. They all ducking meshed. And Goodsall was the tie in because he could sing that shit to your heart if you listened. He just had a way of expressing strings that was unique. He’s in my Top 5 all time guitarists. The origins of this era parallel with the rise of disco and boogie. I guess Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer were first. But Brand X carried that shit. It’s one band I could never recommend any fans of modern jazz miss out on. If you like it more rock, Product in 1978 has a couple songs Phil Collins sings on (Don’t make waves and streets of soho). But the Goodsall stand out is And So To F... I so fucking love that song. But maybe even more of what he could do is Masques which was a year or two earlier. That’s up with a couple Bruford albums as my favorite late 70’s jazz albums. Deadly Nightshade is the song which nobody else could have played. So sorry if to have rambled for anyone read this far, but you hate to lose musical heroes. Thanks for the endless inspiration

My dad asked me today as we were playing casino Keno games for my mom’s birthday, if I knew that Graeme Edge, drummer and co-founder of the The Moody Blues died yesterday. I didn’t. He knows that as a pre-teen I wore his albums out, especially this prog-rock concept album. RIL.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Young Dolph was apparently shot and killed in Memphis which sucks royal ass. I just watched his set at Rolling Loud a couple weekends ago, and one of my kids who is a giant fan, was blasting him in my car the last couple days. 36 is too young, and there's no reason for anyone to be shot on the streets.
I wonder if Yo Gotti's people (e.g. Blac Youngsta or someone else in that circle) had anything to do with it? They were close-implicated the last two times Dolph was shot at. He survived a shooting in Los Angeles/Hollywood back in 2017 when confronted by 3 men which led to a fight and him being capped multiple times. He survived that. Then a couple years later his SUV was shot up in Charlotte and had over 100 bullet holes in it. He survived because his vehicle was "bulletproof" which led to the release of the album Bulletproof. They were sort of tied into that one as well but charges were dropped due to lack of witnesses. Strange shit. I love Memphis rap - particularly Three-6 and related friends and family. And I like Dolph. But I never much cared for Yo Gotti. It's just not that good to me.
Not sure what all is true but some people are saying that Gotti’s mom’s restaurant got shot up and Blacc’s grandmas house where she was killed. Memphis 10.

1. Shooting at moms/grandmoms is totally fucked up
2. Assuming it's Gotti or one of his people, they gonna get locked up if not dead themselves. Is it really worth it?

I saw a tweet with the bullet holes in the car/house. He apparently lived with her. But I feel like the got away with it twice already, so why not (in their minds if they are even involved). I don’t trust social media so I don’t much know what to believe.
DJ Paul the OG [tm] King of Memphis who burried his feud with Dolph a few years ago notes, “ So Dolph gets killed on Lord Infamous birthday - unreal.” That it is.
The e-rumors were I guess predictably false as Gotti’s mom’s restaurant didn’t get shot up. Police immediately put up a presence after Dolph was killed. Blac Youngsta’s grandma also was not shot according to the MPD. No doubt there will be further casualties in time because that’s the way retaliation works unfortunately. But fortunately no one innocent or removed from the rap feud (aka stupid pride, selfish pride) has been hurt so far.
Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby, better known as Hank von Helvete, is dead. This is confirmed by family members in Tvedestrand to Tvedestrandsposten .
The famous artist lived in Tvedestrand in the 80s, while he was a middle school student.
Husby leaves behind his daughter Else Victoria who he has with his ex-wife Gro Skaustein (41).
Husby's former manager Trygve Haug posted a Facebook post earlier today. Among those expressing sympathy and grief in the comments section are Husby's aunt and Jack Vreeswijk's son, Cornelis Vreeswijk.
Husby is best known to many as a former member of the Norwegian hard rock and punk band "Turboneger", with which he made a career from the early 1990s to 2010. With Hank von Helvete as frontman, the band achieved success far beyond Norway's borders with hits such as "Ass Cobra", "Apocalypse Dudes" and "Fuck The World".
dude was my introduction to fashion. before him i thought it was all ridiculous high prices for shit nobody would wear. then his collaboration with nike happened, i saw those first shoes and was immediately entranced by them. i couldn't explain why, but something about those sneakers just screamed at me, with the text written on the side and the shoelaces and that damn orange tag. i thought i was above it all but immediately saw the art in what he was doing, the deconstruction of form coupled with a sense of humor and specific outlook appealed to me in the same way that heterodox music genres did, and then "fashion" made sense to me. it could be beautiful, it could be funny, it could be ridiculous, and what "high" fashion does eventually makes its way down into the functional attire of everyday people (cue quote from The Devil Wears Prada).
i'm not a streetwear guy, and thus i could never bring myself to buy one of his $300 t-shirts but i am always eager to see his new collection drop, just to see what he is up to, and to see how what he does influences everyone else. glad now i walked over to his set at Movement to at least catch a glance at him.
