Duane was on another level, but Dickey carried the torch for so many years after. Love this show from Gainesville (quite the freeze frame 40 seconds in).
When I worked the bandshell at school there, we never got bands this cool.
so I remember when the whole OJ saga/bronco chase etc. was happening in real time, but I was a little kid. Through all the news reports, etc. I'd sometimes hear him referred to as "Juice", and I didn't really have any frame of reference for OJ Simpson at that age. But, earlier that year, a movie called Blank Check came out and I loved it. There was a character named Juice and I thought they were talking about him and I was devastated.

Blank Check taught me that chicks dig it when you line your pockets with Ziplocs at the salad bar so you can stuff them full and give her a snack later on in the date. This has gotten me laid countless times.

Thank you for making me feel old. I was I think 18, definitely working at Steak & Ale when it happened. We were all watching it on TV at the bar.

I remember clearly that it interrupted Game 5 of the 1994 NBA Finals between the Knicks and Rockets.

Everyone was tuned in like it was a moon landing or some shit. Lots of people junked out to the trial since it was televised. Off the top of my head - Marcia Clark, Judge Lance Ito, Barry Schenk, F. Lee Bailey, Robert Shapiro, Mark Furman, Kato Kailin, Nicole’s Dad (Ronald Goldman ? ? ?) and sister, I can’t remember the other prosecutors name (shit Chris Darden was on the tip of my tongue). And I didn’t even pay much attention. I don’t ever follow trials or entertainment shit so you can see how saturated that shit was. Oh yeah and Johnny Cochran.
The guy I was dating at the time was obsessed. He watched the trial constantly. He blabbed on about history being mad and yada yada yada. I guess he was kinda right. The blow up/start of court and reality TV.

Haha exactly. I don’t even want to look it up as to how many months the trial went on. I’ll guess 5 but I’m probably way wrong.
Shit. I looked it up and it was 11 months. Infected by the brutal use of a sharp slicing weapon that decapitated motherfuckers. Looking back in time life would have been better if none of this shit ever happened and I never had to be exposed to it.
Just saw Gary Floyd passed away at 71. Never really a household name but such an inspiration to queer punks at the time. While punk stood against a lot of Isms during the 80’s, it never really got behind supporting gay rights till much later on. Gary was big and loud and queer and in your face. It was shocking to a lot of people and really forced you to look at the boys club punk was when it started.
Raising a glass to you tonight, Gary. Keep fucking shit up wherever you are.

Damn. It’s from the heart. You need to be shot. /Dicks hate police. They were one of several early 80’s austin gay punk bands (MDC, Big Boys, The Dicks, etc. though not everyone in all those bands was gay). Big Boys were pretty big among skate punks. I dug them and loved MDC. Only The dicks album I had was Kill From the Heart. RIP Gary who once claimed he was living off of beer and cum during a late 80’s or early 90’s tour.
Oh shit Vice article on that scene. I fully disagree with the author that MDC was kind of bad because Blue By Day White By Night is the best album from that scene kind of easily with No Matter How Long The Line at the Cafeteria Is probably a distant but great second. www.vice.com/en/article/rgb8y6/punk-records-002-austin-80s-hardcore-commie-faggots
We were punks so we didn’t really care if people were gay then.
