Head hurts and higher order brain function looks like Afghanistan this morning; bombed out and depleted. KDOGG, it was awesome.
Viking >>> KDogg >>> SFA
Like my lucky t-shirt or my dog's head, I always switch to SFA as a second vote when he plays and I always win when I do.
Will read later when my brain is functioning. Rummy, I'm going to take the high road here and instead of reciprocating, just pee off the overpass as you pass by below.
I would like to see a 4 person runoff. I would normally not have an issue switching my vote, however, seeing both Thor and Viking moving off of kdogg makes me want to keep my vote where it is.

Why don't you compile some stats to see if a d1r1 4 person runoff is actually better than a 3 person runoff whe compared to ultimate outcome for the town. I don't want to say I'm opposed to either one, because I really don't know if one is definitively better. But how do I know you're not just trying to expand the runoff to save a Mafia? That's what helped JR escape the first runoff last game after all.

When I get back from golfing tonight, I will do some research. I don't know what it means, but I just don't like that kdogg dropped from 3 votes to only my vote, so if I moved my vote, he would go from 3 to 0.
I don't mind if there are 3 or 4 people in the runoff. I thought kdogg going from 3 to 1 votes real quick was definitely weird. I'd feel a lot better if he was in the runoff.

I would love to see the results to this. I've got some incomplete data in a thread about 10 games back, where I went back to list how many mafia had found themselves in a round one runoff. It happens more often than I originally thought.
I wasn't looking for 3 vrs 4 person and it needs to be updated. Let me remember which game it was(pretty sure I was talking to Boner) and I might update that to give us an idea. Doesn't look like it will matter for this game, as a 4-way is already the norm, but it will be an interesting talking point for the future.

As for the current runoff. It seems like the usual suspects. Putting me aside, I feel Kdogg, Potent and Viking end up in a higher percentage of runoffs than your average player. It's partly playing style for Kdogg and Viking. Not sure why it seems to happen to Potent too. Maybe it doesn't and that just my perception?
Not that that has anything to do with this current game or it's a bad runoff. We will certainly get a lot more info out of a R1D1 with us four than the one we had last game. I'm naturally suspicious of anyone putting me in a runoff but Viking's stupid "luck vote" is a thing. It started like 4 years ago? So I'll give him that and hold off on any knee-jerk reaction for now.

I know, I know, I'm breaking my vow of silence early. I figure that "after GNR Sunday" meant swooping in with a last-minute vote change on a holiday with little/no discussion afterwards, and I'm not so keen on that approach all things considered. Quick post before I start work at the top of the hour.
I've still been following along to keep my notes updated. Something about my Friday interactions with Thor isn't quite sitting right with me, given hindsight of what's happened since my last post. Here's how I'd describe that in a nutshell:
Me: *normal kdoggystyle - voted, posted tallies, shared thoughts* Thor: "That's a bunch of nonsense! STFU! Thor > kdogg" (basically) Me: *goes on self-imposed hiatus* Thor: *changes his vote to the exact thing he called "a bunch of nonsense" when it was me who said it*
Full quotes related to this are in spoiler tag below, for length:
I have six posts this game. 1. Vote 2. Reply to Ref re: timeline. 3. Vote tally. 4. Joking reply to Ref re: Ref's joking comment 5. Vote tally 6. My thoughts on the vote
I can see how one joking comment doesn't fit, but you call the sum total of this participation "a bunch of nonsense." Really, now?
*Viking > kdogg *kdogg > ZIG *Mike D > SFA *Carini > Thor Potent > Carini *ZIG > kdogg *SFA > Mike D *Rummy > Viking danbob > Potent
* These votes all make sense to me.
Viking going after me feels about right. I made it known I'd go for ZIG. ZIG reciprocated. Mike D & SFA reciprocating makes sense & has precedent. Carini has a formula. Rummy's vote for Viking makes complete sense, because history.
The ones I can't currently explain both involve Potent. Hmm.
No good reason besides the fact that a noob is voting for him and I feel like they never end up as Mafia
Thor said I was spouting "a bunch of nonsense" - but then he placed his vote exactly where my "nonsense" was! Seems inconsistent.
This isn't passing the smell test with me.
Changing my vote in the interest of expanding the runoff. I know Carini uses his predetermined formula for his first vote, so I know I'm not stacking on someone acting on a hidden agenda here.
Expand the runoff, don't like how the votes fell off him, and forgot how annoying it is when he fixates on my votes.
1. I agree with you on expanding the runoff. 2. Why are you assigning blame to me for how others vote? 3. Re-read my posts in this thread. I came to looking at votes involving you through process of elimination, and every other vote at the time had a seemingly logical explanation to me. Ain't like I started on you and worked backwards from there.
I'll put it out there that I'm not opposed to Kdogg being in a runoff. My vote on him was temporary, but by no means does me moving off him suggest I think he's cleared or not. Just trying to feel him out to start, and ultimately opted to create a runoff by switching to Potent
Do we really want another 5 person runoff? Didn't seem to help at all last game.
Kdogg seems to want one.
Better that than the rush to judgment you wanted. If you had your way originally, we would've had a three-way at most in a best-case scenario - if we'd had a runoff at all. I think that's a reckless way to go about Day One.
But hey, I'm only an advocate for "a bunch of nonsense" to you. Nevermind that you endorsed my "nonsense" with your vote...
the 5-person runoff last game sucked because we had no activity and minimal votes, but I think, based on how this game is going so far, we wouldn't have that issue if we proceeded with a 5-person.
Plus we have until Monday and I need to do some research tomorrow.

Don't worry. Methinks Thor is switching back my way in a runoff once it locks in anyway.
I saw something in the votes, mentioned it only vaguely, and while it may be something or nothing - I subsequently got jumped on for it. I'll leave it at that for now.
[Note: Probably going dark tomorrow. Estimated time of departure for Chicago is 11-ish with a return in the wee hours. Friend in town who went to their show last night said it took him 4.5 hours just to make it to Soldier Field with traffic, and my girlfriend's gonna kill me if we miss the Alice In Chains opening set.]

A 5-person runoff is lame and I can't believe we are discussing the merits of it. If we want to start off with a 5-way than we should just go back to voting partners(which nobody wants). Start off the game 2-2-2-2-2-1 and debate until we are at 3-3-3, 2-2-2-2 or whatever. Then began the first runoff. At least that structure had some internal logic to it and people generally had to make a case for early vote moves. Now you can say anything, I quoted goddamn Katie Perry yesterday. What makes it worse is we sit around for days between a five person runoff and then have another 4 person runoff. So the mafia has WAY to much time to plan and figure out how to maneuver any troubled member they might have out of harms way. That also gives the town days to overthink shit and turn on each other. Making the whole thread a disaster to go back and read through.
In short, people have done away with voting partners. That essentially did away with any useful 5-way runoffs. At least in the way the game has been played as the last two years or so. The end.

Nonsense. I always advocate for a runoff, regardless of my role. What a gross overreaction this post is, Kdogg. Nonetheless, I won't let your theatrics distract from the fact you just created a 5 person runoff. If people want me in the runoff then so be it. But you aren't MonkyBunney. You know exactly what you're doing when you make a 5 person runoff and I find that extremely suspect.
I just looked back at some mafia games and it looks like the last time there was a three way runoff d1r1 was mafia 71. I'll dig into it more after church but none of the three mafia were included in the 3 way d1r1 runoff and mafia ended up winning the game. Interesting to note that Jimmy was also mafia that game (not saying I think he is mafia right now but it bears mentioning). I personally would like a runoff of 4 players but it doesn't look like that will happen unless zig or potent move off of kdogg. I'm keeping my vote where it is right now in hopes that one of them moves off of kdogg.
