Potential Friday act: Belle and Sebastian They'll be playing Toronto with Julien Baker Thursday, July 27th; Panorama - NYC July 29th; then with Andrew Bird in Maryland, North Carolina, and back in Boston August 2nd.
So July 28th could be a travel day... but it would certainly be possible for them to stop at the fort for a set that Friday. I think they would be an awesome pre-headliner set leading up to Fleet Foxes. Playing with Julien Baker and Andrew Bird around that time only adds to the possibility.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

Fleet Foxes, Belle and Sebastian, and Andrew Bird all on one day would be pretty great. I wonder if they might bring Julien Baker back. She's supposed to have a new album on the way, but I'm not sure exactly when that's due. If it's out in time I could maybe see it given the the reception to her set last year. I think if they're gonna do two in a row with anyone from last year, she'd be near the top of my list - I unfortunately missed that set

Would make spoon a possibility too, right?
I would think so. I don't think I've ever listened to Spoon so I wasn't sure if they would fit... although Jay has proven he can make anyone fit. I really like Belle and Sebastian though... particularly the newest album and If You're Feeling Sinister.

(Listening to Spoon now - wouldn't mind this at all)

I looove me some Spoon, but I really can't imagine them playing the Fort. And really, I'd be okay with them not being there.
Really enjoying tracking the announcements as they come out. It looks like they rotate days of the artist announcing a Friday, then a Saturday, then a Sunday performer. Announcements always come out at 10:00 am. So far, the two biggest artists were announced on Friday's... do they tend to try to announce bigger artists on Friday's? Also, noticed last year there were a few Tuesday/Thursday announcements. Any rhyme or reason to those? Finally, seems like they save a few big headliners for the last few announcements. Is this true year over year or just last year?
Stapleton just announced his tour. He is open from 7/23 - 8/2. Virginia on 7/22 and Minnesota on 8/3
Unfortunately I think the ship for him sailed even before last year. He blew up a good amount of time before Newport 2016. However he's one I could see taking the pay cut for the historical aspect.

He put on a flawless show at Bonnaroo last year.
He's out anyways. Just noticed he's booked those days.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

"Dawes are excited to share that additional dates for the An Evening With Dawes tour will be announced next week!
Since you last heard from the Dawes, they have moved their newsletter to be within the official Dawes Community at DawesTheBand.com. By joining the community, you’ll be the first to hear about tour dates, will have access to pre-sale codes, show setlists, and more exclusive content!"

AKA Newport.
Wouldn't be a part of "an evening with" tour. That tour is them doing 2 sets.
Nikki Lane - Wow! Rhiannon Giddens - Wow! Ryan Adams - was not impressed off first listen. Will need to try again.
Listened to 3 new albums yesterday... Nikki Lane, Ryan Adams, and Strand of Oaks.
I've never been a big Ryan Adams fan although I can appreciate some of his songs. This new album gave me the same impression. Do You Still Love Me and a couple others were great the rest of the album was putting me to sleep.
The Strand of Oaks album had me feeling the same way mostly but the songs that he did hit on were more my style and pace. I liked this album just slightly more than Prisoner.
I never listened to Nikki Lane when she played Newport in 2015. I was excited to listen to her for the first time. I was impressed with her album more than the others. Hopefully I'll be seeing her at Newport this year.

Yeah I agree on the Ryan Adams observation. Very slow album for the most part.

Well since we're doing this...
Ryan Adams - Same as y'all. I looove "Do You Still Love Me", but the rest is a little too slow for me. I'm surprised how good the reviews have been for it. CoS called it his third best album. Strand of Oaks - Loving the new album. Probably going to end up in my Top 10 of the year. Nikki Lane - Downloading now, looking forward to it. Rhiannon Giddens - I don't care.
Other recent listens
Marlon Williams - Marlon Williams - Meh, couple good songs, but I find the end of the album reeeallly drags. Drive-By Truckers - American Band - I'm impressed. Really love Ever South. Margaret Glaspy - Emotions & Math - Reeeally diggin' this album. Pretty excited for her set. Tash Sultana - Notion - Really great EP. Sorta reminds me of Julien Baker meets Lorde.
Also just got the new Ron Gallo album, really looking forward to that!
