Trying to figure out how you got Joseph from that riddle. Other than being all female band and Schepman = Shephard? Would be happy if its them. Haven't listened to them a lot, but what I have I really like. They did say they would announce tomorrow so would expect them to continue the M-T-W announcements with an announcement today.

They reference three "Joseph's":
1) Shepherd - Biblical 2) Yankee Clipper - Joe DiMaggio 3) Robin - Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Also, Sylvan Esso just announced a Brooklyn show on 7/26 with no other dates around it. Looks pretty likely. Still think they're an interesting fit for Newport but "Die Young" is one of my favorite songs of the year so far so.
While we're at it, Maggie Rogers would make for an awesome pairing with them. Both folky hearts with electropop exteriors
Some of you people have weird ideas of what would be a "good fit." I mean yeah both members are connected to folky groups, but Sylvan Esso are electronic dance pop... Would you say that CHVRCHES would be a good fit too?

Yeah, like I said, still a weird fit. If they booked Kendrick Lamar I'd also think that's a weird fit, but I'd still be really excited.
And if they could possibly put together a Megafaun reunion I'd be dead
Everyone officially has at least one spot marked on the Bingo cards. Nikki Lane helped cath join the rest of us. Welcome.
Congrats to shakedownstreet for being the only person to guess The Avett Brothers. We really weren't expecting that add.
mrpotatotrooper is currently in the lead for most artists. If I win, I will give the prize to the second place. I'm already going to be buying beer for myself all weekend...
Sooooo, Sam Cohen, Punch Brothers, Chris Thile, Sara Watkins, Aoife O'Donovan, Sarah Jaroz, & Seth Avett have all shown up separately (as "single" acts) on some bingo cards. I'm not going to "stamp them" off on the bingo cards, since they aren't technically "single" acts. Someone asked about this on Twitter for the official Bingo and Newport replied saying "if no one else gets a clear bingo we'd consider it good", so maybe I'll just do it that way. Y'all cool with that?
That last date #hearteyesemoji
Thank you for your precious time.
yay! I kind of forgot about my bingo card. I'll have to pull it out and take a look -- after The Avett Brothers got cancelled the last day of Mountain Jam last year due to a storm I had a feeling there were going to show up somewhere out there at least once this summer. Brandi Carlile and Gary Clark Jr. both also cancelled and Brandi showed on the Boston Calling line up and Gary Clark Jr. will be back at Mt. Jam! Happy I'll get my fix of all three this summer!

Good Shepherd - Joe Pesci Batman and Robin - Joe Gordon Levitt Yankee Clipper - Joe DiMaggio
Joseph.
Makes more sense. The other two were sufficient to connect the dots but I didn't buy the Shepherd connection to Joseph of the Bible given that he was a carpenter.
damn, always great to find some new music, love this guy
first newport, all the way from Australia, the stage selection friday is looking really tough
That's quite a journey, it'll be worth it though! They also do a thing called "Farthest Folk" where you can tell them where you came from and they feature the longest trips on the screens between sets. I'd think Australia's just about as far as it gets
This is what I have mocked up for a schedule/full lineup right now:
My Friday would look something like: Seratones > Big Thief > half of L.A. Salami > Chicano Batman > end of Valerie June > Joseph > Alone & Together > end of Sylvan Esso > THATH > Fleet Foxes
Although if Infamous Stringdusters didn't count last year I suppose this shouldn't count either
I'd actually argue that they all count, because they'll be playing their own songs, but I'll leave the rules up to mrpotatotrooper
Oh really? Do we know this fo sho? Why are they billed as "American Acoustic" with the others, if they're doing their own stuff? I have so many questions. Maybe I'll ask Newport on twitter.

Thanks mate, been on the bucket list for years and first time the holiday in July lined up, booked the tickets for this first and now been building a trip around it, love that schedule thingy
can you recommend any other resources/read about practicalities of attending newport, making it work and gettting the most enjoyment out of it??

That's probably the best option, because no I don't know anything fo sho. I figured it'd be something where all of them collaborate in some form on each other's songs, but I could be wrong

Honestly we're probably the best resource I know of. I'm sure once it's morning here in the states people will be able to give you some pointers, so feel free to fire away with any questions whenever they arise

Agreed that Joe Pesci is probably who they were referring to, but the Biblical Joespeh I was referring to wasn't a carpenter - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_(Genesis)

Depends what information you need. If it's for accommodation I would stay in a nearby town. Newport is small and the hotels get expensive that weekend. All you need to know is it's a very beautiful city. If you have a day before or after the festival I'd recommend taking a harbor cruise. As for the festival itself. There's no need to stress. It's a relatively small and very friendly festival. When the schedule comes out figure out who you want to see. I'd arrive a bit early. A lot of people bring a low back lawn chair, picnic blanket and snacks and set up base in front of main stage. Space near the stage fills up right away when gates open. Don't run but walk fast if you want one. There is a designated area in front of stage for dancing and the crowd. You can go to other stages as you wish and come back. The first year I spent a lot of time at the main stage. It overlooks beautiful Newport Harbor. This year I may not bring a chair and blanket at all. I tend to bounce around a lot and last year spent almost no time at it. There are food vendors anyway. You can bring a refillable water container. There are water refill stations. The main stage is outside a big old civil war fort. If you walk left facing main stage you will soon see smaller stages. One on right is in a room in the fort. The museum stage. Sometimes big stars show up there. The next is the Harbor stage where smaller acts play. After that go though a tunnel and see the Quad stage. It's inside the fort and is my favorite. It's a huge tent. It get big acts or quickly rising acts. It's a more intimate venue and you can't beat it if it's very hot out as its covered. If you like beer there are beer gardens. You need a wrist band and line can be long for that when it opens. Later it's fine. Have fun.
smeggysmeg Welcome. Are you planning on being in Newport pre-fest or post-fest? In the summer Newport is pretty much jammed with tourists all the time but never so much as during the festival. If your stay extends beyond the festival we could probably recommend some things to do that you might like as we live about 20 miles away. During the festival Newport is all about the festival.
Great interview/feature on Joan Baez, figured people here might be interested. Would really love for her to come back to Newport. She mentions a tour next year, so maybe that'll be the chance

thanks Sean, perfect just what I needed, been to a bunch of festivals over the year but great to hear about some practicalities. I've got all three days and family have saturday and sunday (although now Regina is playing friday I'm in trouble on that, the girls are on the Lyte list but not too optimistic) so thinking being solo Friday (likely) I'll just float around and save the rug/chairs for weekend (add that to list to buy and donate).
We've been to the US a bunch before, but this is first summer trip, arrive in NW on July 1 and then making out way eventually east, with week before Newport in DC and Boston.
We've booked a car park pass, will hire car and drive down from Boston and back and have got accommodation about 20-30 minutes away from the Fort
A few questions - is it all standing at all the stages? or are some sitting? - what sort of temperature should we expect? - can you come in and out? - what's the food like? (here downunder I started and run the countries first food truck festival) - what sort of distance between stages? can you hop between easily?
Love any comments from anyone about how to make the most this bucket list experience......
