I can't imagine Eaux Claires pays all that much. Probably more than Newport can, but I'd still be surprised if he's getting his usual rate. But that Newport tweet a couple weeks ago did make it seem like they hadn't booked him yet
True. But Bruce has shown up unannounced at some John Prine local shows. But he is not an "upstager," so it would have to be some kind of "and friends": thingy.
Only have tix for Friday (late ordering), and have gone from 150 to 117 on Saturday's wait list in about 3 weeks, so there's hope. But my first year I did use shhh...Stub Hub, and the tix were fine.

I listened to a 2016 NFF podcast late last year. The guy got his Saturday from Stub Suckers. When he tried to get in he couldn't. Someone had already gone it with the same ticket. He went to the office but they couldn't do anything. He lucked out though because as he was leaving he met someone outside the office trying to sell theirs. He got in after all. It's a gamble buying like that. I'd personally only use it as a very last resort.
Just noticed that Prince's backing band "The Revolution" has a bunch of reunion dates scheduled. Decent size tour with no MA RI dates at all. Not sure if this would be a fit, but still odd that there are no locals.
While throwing out names, surprised Aimee Mann hasn't gotten more attention as a possible act. New album, music is a good fit, has recorded a song with Ben Gibbard, and has played Newport before, but not for a while. She seems like a strong candidate.
Finally got around to listening through the new Mount Eerie album last night. Don't think I'll be able to revisit it for a bit but I highly recommend it to those who haven't heard it yet. If there's any festival where that could work it'd be Newport, although I'd still have to emotionally prepare myself first. Going from that to something like Nikki Lane would be a pretty jarring transition

Congrats to shakedownstreet for being the only person to guess The Avett Brothers. We really weren't expecting that add.
mrpotatotrooper is currently in the lead for most artists. If I win, I will give the prize to the second place. I'm already going to be buying beer for myself all weekend...
Sooooo, Sam Cohen, Punch Brothers, Chris Thile, Sara Watkins, Aoife O'Donovan, Sarah Jaroz, & Seth Avett have all shown up separately (as "single" acts) on some bingo cards. I'm not going to "stamp them" off on the bingo cards, since they aren't technically "single" acts. Someone asked about this on Twitter for the official Bingo and Newport replied saying "if no one else gets a clear bingo we'd consider it good", so maybe I'll just do it that way. Y'all cool with that?

Been texting my family, who are coming to their first Newport day Saturday this year, all of the announcements for the day. After Avetts got a "Finally someone I know!" from my sister. I told her that this is the type of festival that it doesn't matter if you know anyone going in, you will come out with 1 - 3 of your new favorite bands every time.

Can we vote on punch brothers counting? I feel like thats a specific performance that, even though part of American Acoustic, was billed as Punch Brothers and not chris thile, neil picklenski, etc.
