Just a gut feeling, but I suspect we have yet to see at least one closing act, whether for Friday or Sunday. Yes, Friday is already packed, but it seems like there's still going to be some "juice" added to an otherwise mellow day. Am I alone on this?

**In my opinion**
Friday could still have one on top. FF are big, but they coouuld also pre-headline the Fort. Saturday, yes Avett have headlined before, but they could choose to take a lower spot, like Ryan Adams did last year. Sunday, I reeallly hope JP is the final Fort act. What a great way to end the year. I also think it would be sort of disrespectful to such a legend if someone was after him.
I feel like it could go either way. I would be pretty surprised if there wasn't at least one more headliner simply due to them wanting to announce a headliner last. That being said, all three in the #1 spot are headliner worthy. At the very least, I think we are in store for some more strong sub-headliners.

My dear great aunt was a Sub-Headliner. She'd sing "The White Cliffs of Dover," the captain would yell "dive!" and four years she headlined across the frozen North Atlantic. The old gal caught the bends twice, but at heart was a Sub Headliner to the end.
OK, I need more sleep. The Roots are playing NJF, and backing David Byrne and others in NY in October. Although after last year's smallish crowd for Patti Smith (who I loved), I guess they'd go in a different direction. My darling great aunt?
Hey...have we forgotten Joan Baez was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame this year?

Your Aunt doesn't sound like a particularly strong sub-headliner: "The old gal caught the bends twice". Maybe Lake Street Dive or the Lumineers:

this already happened
picky, picky...
and clever...Lake Street Dive. Indeed, she went down smooth. Also some symmetry with the Lumineers, who last played the same year as the Avett Brothers.

He was incredible last fall. Had no idea what to expect going in. Uses a loop pedal a lot. Him and the jacket boys jammed out some of his songs too, which was a real treat. He does the BEST covers as well.
Hey gang. Hate to grovel but my mother-in-law got laid off but that also means she's free for the summer and wants to head to NFF for the first time. So figured I'd put out the feeler for a ticket anywhere and everywhere. She's in the Lyte queue at 193 but again, if anyone turns up an extra, please let me know! Thanks.

Yeah, I have to imagine the two artists left for Friday are on the bigger side. At least in the top half. My current predictions are Sylvan Esso and Valerie June
There's a tour gap but I'm not sure the clue really points to them. They would be a good fit and there's plenty of history with both of them and this fest. Honestly might be too loud for Newport.
Get off my lawn.
Some of you people have weird ideas of what would be a "good fit." I mean yeah both members are connected to folky groups, but Sylvan Esso are electronic dance pop... Would you say that CHVRCHES would be a good fit too?

Already explained this, but once again I still wouldn't call them a "good fit," but that doesn't mean they can't be booked
EDIT: I'll also add that branching outside what makes for a "good fit" is often a good thing for a festival and is something Newport has done time and time again to great success
