I have a feeling we'll be seeing him during that Speak Out set. And hopefully during Jim James'. But I agree that he definitely seems like one of the more surprising non-inclusions, along w/ Charles Bradley and Gary Clark Jr. who are both long overdue for a return to the Fort
Gary Clark Jr. Worked on the New Chuck Berry album. Not trying to build expectations but if he'd play anywhere at NFF this year I'd imagine it'd be at the Check Berry tribute.
Morello is also on that album. He'd make sense for that set, and surely the " speak out" set.

Think this was said before but Nathaniel Rateliff was on new Chuck Berry song and is in CT night before.
Yes. The people who played on the Chuck Berry album are all very likely to play a set in tribute to Chuck Berry that's being put together with help from his family. I thought that was just assumed.

Can we actually assume ANYTHING from this festival, other than Del's being available all day all 3 days?

For anyone still wondering, Lucius just officially announced via Facebook that they'll be joining Roger on tour. So excuse me while I figure out how many shows I can make it to.

Yup. Saw that as well. I'm already going to both Boston shows!

I have tickets for one Brooklyn show, but I might see if I can swing the second one and potentially one of the Boston ones. Lots of external factors to work around but this is shaping up to be the tour of the year for me so I'll be trying my best
Their Wilco announcement is a sponsored post on Facebook right now. I wonder why they are putting money into advertising when they sold out in 5 minutes?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Ok, so no Bingo winner will be announced until July 25th (the day before I head out). Even though the lineup is "finished", I'm keeping it running just in case they announce the museum stuff or anyone else. No one has got a proper Bingo yet, but the person who is closest, also has the most correct guesses. Behind me. Because I am amazing. But Bingo God can't win.

Ho Hum.
Can we get a sneak peek at how the race is looking going into the festival?

New podcast with Jay. Based on their discussion of Pres Hall I would have to now think that, if they weren't before, that Arcade Fire are absolutely in play and almost likely for next year. I know Strawman thinks they will be literally everywhere next year, which is probably true. They feel like the type of band to get back to their roots.

I do, but even if I was seeing them at 20 other festivals I'd still be down and very interested to see what they'd bring to Newport. Let's all start pestering Jay to book them now

They feel like a buy-them-a-(vegan)-hotdog-every-year-at-SXSW type of band.
Man, Saturday's such a clusterfuck at the top. I mean Jim James is my #1 but if there's conflict between him and the Decemberists I don't know what I'm going to do. I could see Decemberists>Avetts closing Quad and Jim closing out the Harbor. But seriously, it's blowing my mind.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!

I'd guess Offa Rex -> Jim on the Quad and Avetts -> Wilco on the Fort.

I mean, if we think back to 2012, Wilco played an elongated late-night set. What if we have Th Avett Brothers filling in the formal headliner spot and afterwards, have Wilco play later in the day. I know NFF has a curfew they have to abide by but I'm sure Jay can pull strings.

FJM is one of my favorite musicians. I really hope he makes it back just to do a song for the Speak Out set. A few songs from Pure Comedy would fit in really well.
Any other thoughts for that set? I think First Aid Kit has already been mentioned to possibly play "You Are the Problem Here". Also, since Jay began talking about that set on the podcast by mentioning Spirit Family Reunion saying, "It's time to make Newport dangerous again" (Or something along those lines), I could definitely see them playing "Goin' Out to Cannon Ball". Lastly, Conor Oberst has some songs that would fit that bill... "Road to Joy" immediately comes to mind.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
