That's a great discussion! I'm curious what live music moments have choked others up. I can think of a few off the top of my head...
-When Jack White got choked up singing Goodnight Irene.
-The Irish guy jumping on stage and singing The Auld Triangle with Glen Hansard.
Outside of Newport...
-The Staves performing Sufjan Stevens' Chicago to celebrate the ending of their tour with Ben Howard, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Bear's Den... you could really tell they were a little family on that tour.
-The Lone Bellow performing at Newbury Comics to a room of like 20 about a week or so after the Boston Marathon attacks when Kanene started crying mid-song.
Julien Baker at Newport Bon Iver at Boston Calling - the rain and the music...I didn't stand a chance!
I cried like seven times during that set. Thank goodness the rain came to hide the tears.

Hey everybody. Been lurking for a few months now. I preferred last year's schedule layout so I decided to make my own. Just made an account here to share it. Let me know if there are any mistakes and I can update. 9 days and counting!

Finally getting around to mapping out where I'll be...
Friday: Matt the Electrician > Aaron Lee Tasjan > The Wild Reeds > L.A. Salami > Big Thief > Alone & Together > Ben Gibbard > Regina Spektor > Fleet Foxes
Saturday: Mt. Joy > Chicano Batman > Grandma's Hands Band > Offa Rex > Nikki Lane > Joseph > (Maybe stop at Jim James for a song or two) > Avett Brothers > Leave early to get a good spot at Newport Blues for Deer Tick
Sunday: Choir! Choir! Choir! > Preservation Hall Jazz Band > Chuck! > Pinegrove > Unannounced (Whitney if unannounced isn't up our alley) > John Paul White > Speak Out > John Prine
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Need some advice/convincing on some conflicts, of which I thought I had none until I really studied the schedule:
Carl Broemel vs. Alone and Together
Mandolin Orange vs. Offa Rex
Chuck! vs. Steelism
Pinegrove vs. Michael Kiwanuka vs. Unannounced
Speak Out vs. American Acoustic vs. John Prine
Convince me one way or the other.
Carl Broemel vs Alone and Together is my biggest non-Wilco/Jim James/DBT conflict of the weekend, so I can't help with that
Anytime there is a set at Newport where you don't know what is going to happen, I try not to miss it, so Chuck and Speak Out are priorities for me. That also means I'll probably be missing all of American Acoustic unfortunately because I am not going to miss a second of John Prine.
OMG that poster. I cannot wait (I also foresee myself going on a tshirt binge).
Thank you, ehfriendlycanadian, for doing the work on the schedule! I despise having to go to that app for it (especially since I usually keep my phone locked on portrait mode). Also, welcome to the board! It is especially nice of you to join just so that you can share it. I can't seem to open the version I saved from your post. Can you share it another way (Google docs?) or can someone more savvy than me tell me how to get it? I need a hard copy at my desk to scribble on.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I'll always go with the thing I'm less likely to see again, so: -A&T -Offa Rex -Chuck -Pinegrove > Unannounced (Or leave Kiwanuka like 10 mins early and catch most of the unannounced)
-How big of a Prine fan are you? My plan is to do all of Speak Out, then what's left of AA, then what's left of Prine. But if you're a big fan, I think you're fine skipping American Acoustic. All of those artists tour all the time and with each other quite a bit.
Speaking of conflict solutions, I just realized Marlon Williams, Julia Jacklin, and Joshua Hedley are playing a show together in NYC next Wed. which is great because I wasn't going to be able to see any of them at the Fort

This one popped in my head immediately; throughout the set and then when she fought off crying to get her Thank You out and ran off the stage at the end... I was done.
A couple different times seeing Brandi Carlile sing That Year.
Langhorne seems to always get them out of me at some point during his set.

If you right-click and select 'view in a new tab' it should open up with the print-friendly resolution. Or try this link, same thing: i.imgur.com/nHDt0oO.jpg Let me know if you are still having issues and I'll find another sharing method.

This, for sure. How could I leave her/that song in particular out? She's my all-time favorite artist, and I've shed a tear or two at her shows.
Hey guys, thought I would post this here first. We just lost a member of our group, so I have one extra 3 day pass, as well as a ticket for both Pickens after shows, if anyone is interested. All going at cost.

I might be interested in the ticket for the Alone & Together Pickens show, I'll send you a message

This has usually been my general thought at Newport. I really fucked up BIG TIME and missed James Taylor a few years ago and have been kicking myself since.

Fredericton, NB. Last year was my girlfriend's and my first time at the festival, and it was by far the highlight of our summer. So, we decided to make it a yearly tradition.

Just messaged you regarding ClusterFolk after show

I love Carl and MMJ but Alone & Together is going to be something special I think. The whole concept behind "Alone & Together" is a rotating membership. So you may never see these guys all together again. And the fact that they are the hosts of of the Pickens after show tells me all I need to know.
Cool! Hopefully that means we can finally get Jake Bugg at the Fort
That's what I was hoping when I read his name... and Paul Simon. But then I went back and saw Paul Simon had played their first year so I doubt they're still in touch.
Cambridge still has a lot of good acts over the years. A lot of them have played Newport but I found a few bigger names that haven't played as far as I know/remember: Passenger, Van Morrison, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Sinead O'Connor, Johnny Flynn, Steve Earle, The Chieftains, The Dubliners, Nick Cave, Ray Davies, Alison Krauss.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
After shedding Cassandra-like tears, for you lovers of Greek lit, over the slow moving Lyte, they had a run on tickets recently. I went to cancel my place in line and saw that within an hour I had gone from #18 to sold. It was easy as pie (whatever that means) to sell my two Friday tix (came out pretty much even) and the ticket they sold me they took right back, albeit for a $10 loss.
Wife and I agreed "getting" what Newport is about, means you don't get to even consider making a profit with Stub Hub. Hope more musicians "get it" after speaking with their friends. Paging Paul and Bruce.
*** At the moment, I still have a Friday parking pass if someone would like it as my guest...free parking...and a long line getting out. Just message back if interested. Not sure how Lyte makes their profit, but more organizers should embrace them! Stay with them Newport!
P.S. -- When I miss all the good surprise guests, don't tell me. That may be the first time I cry at a concert that I am NOT attending.!
Just noticed Elvis Costello is at PPAC Tuesday night and then is free until Sept.
bonzai There might be a little something in the form of a portable waterproof schedule waiting at QuackClub (But we do now have a laminator if you want to create one than waterproof it when you get here.)
