I don't think they are popular enough to find success as a headlining act in NYC, personally.
i don't care about whatever stupid inforoo-inside-joke-argument this is I'm just saying LCD headlining an NYC fest as this point is like showing up an hour late to the party.
I don't keep up with sales and shit because I have a life, but it seems like there's still a strong demand for them. They could probably afford to do a festival like this (maybe even try some new stuff) and end the next album cycle at MSG or whatever. If money is on the table, they will clearly take it regardless of where they might be in the recording process.
So with Gorillaz confirmed, which of their collaborators will be on the lineup as well? Damon mentioned that for all of their shows they're trying to bring as many guests as possible for each date. Which of these seem like a good fit for the fest:
Mavis Staples Pusha T De La Soul Vince Staples Little Dragon Danny Brown DRAM Savages

Mavis Staples is possible, but she is already playing Central Park in June so maybe not
De La Soul seems possible and did play Governors Ball last year
Vince Staples is playing Panorama so hes out.
Little Dragon is playing Terminal 5 and Radio City in Aug so that doesnt seem likely.
DRAM is opening the Kendrick tour.. Guess it depends on if you think Kendrick is still possible on that one.
Savages and Pusha T played The Meadows last year. Not sure on the repeat policy.
Danny Brown is playing Governors Ball; possible he plays again a few months later I suppose though.

I'm sure most of you weren't hoping for them to play anyway, but rumor on the street is Blink 182 is doing a huge co-headlining show at Citi Field right before Lollapalooza, so I'd count them out for this.

Co-headlining for that show has to be Green Day right (which would then rule them out for this)? I can't see another band that is as big or bigger than Blink that has the same general fanbase.
I could also see both Haim and Father John Misty playing Meadows. They played Gov Ball last year but with new albums I don't think that matters.

Noel Gallagher pleaseeeee. He has a relationship with Gov Ball in the past.

Apparently its Linkin Park hahaha. So bizarre to me.

Mind boggling that Linkin Park and Blink 182 can fill a stadium in 2017.

I hope no one crucifies me if this doesnt happen hahaha I just heard this from someone on another forum that has usually given reliable info.
But I could totally see them filling a stadium, especially a rather small one (I think citi field only holds 40k). Here in LA, within a 3 month period Blink played and sold out 5 shows at venues that hold 16k+. Combine that with Linkin Park's pull, outdoor venue in the summer on a Friday night, I think it could sell pretty well.

I swear to god, if I don't get Linkin Park and Blink 182 in that stadium....

I like that the fact that an artist has played a festival now counts as "having a relationship" with them
I alternate crashing on Kanye and various members of The Strokes couch every night.
I'm assuming you stay with Phoenix when you're visiting Paris?
That Blink 182/Linkin Park @ Citi Field rumor for 7/28 is interesting. Seems a bit dumb to do that the same weekend as Panorama and, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but don't people usually try to put a stadium show on sale 6-7 months in advance (as opposed to a mere 3)?

You think there's significant overlap between the Pano audience and the people who want to pay $100 to see Blink 182 and Linkin Park?

Classic East is happening that weekend at Citi Field too... Id say that rumor is bullshit. Theyd have to do the load in for that on the 28th. Unless they plan on using the same stage and everything for all shows that weekend.

It's not impossible. Last summer Dead & Co. and McCartney played consecutive nights at Fenway. A lot of times it makes sense to schedule in blocks because of how the MLB does their scheduling.
