The way Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds just set up and announced their tour pretty much puts then at jazzfest on May 4th or 5th. tour starts May 3 in Tuscaloosa then 2 days off before Saturday/Sunday shows in Nashville. Then a 3 week break until Atlanta for the larger part of tour. So it's almost like they put a mini run in just for Jazzfest.
I think someone previously mentioned it, but Trombone Shorty's Treme Threauxdown (#3) is on for first Saturday night at The Saenger Theatre. Tickets go on sale on Friday 1/20. Advocate reports the first 2 came very close to selling out, and last year featured a sit in from Chad Smith of RHCP and also Joe Jonas who I presume is one of the Jonas Brothers. This year (so far) features Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave. and Dumpstaphunk.
Fiyafest (presented by Fiyawerx) is going to be Wednesday 5/3 from 1-10pm at Mardi Gras World. Lineup isn't out yet, but it's going to be the typical jams and superjams they are famous for.
GA price is TBD and includes entrance and re-entry; access to all Flame Stage and River Stage performances.
VIP includes access to exclusive VIP mansion stage, viewing areas in front of stages and in the mezzanine; 4 free drinks or beer, crawfish boiled on site, access to all Flame and River Stage performances
New Mastersounds are doing 2am shows at the Joy on Saturday May 6 and Sunday May 7 celebrating "10 years of jazz fest late nights." I love some New Mastersounds and will see how things go. What I'm not sure of is if these are actual dates or the early morning hours of the next day.

I may be incorrect, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the only late show that consistently sells out is Galactic at Tips right? It's the early shows that tend to sell out quickly. I think you are fine to wait.
Yeah, you should be okay as far as I know. I'm going to try to fit one of these in, but I'm going to wait a while to grab a ticket.
Jazz Fest Forums has a couple of lineup notes. One chick that says she works for it says expect it this week because she has work next week predicated on the announcement. And someone else posted an excerpt from an email response stating that they were waiting on a confirmation that was supposed to be this week but will probably be mid next week. Idk.
It's probably not going to sell out that quick (was close the last two years), but if anyone wants presale code for Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave. Treme Threauxdown, the code is superstar. Tickets go on sale today with the code and to the general public tomorrow.

seems like they are having headliner trouble right? trying to lock down that one big name.
Voodoo or Jazz fest?? Never been to New Orleans, leaning heavily towards Voodoo because of being over Halloween / not being spread out over the week. Either way it would be a Thursday-Sunday trip. Thanks!!

Voodoo. If you like jam and jazz, you never go wrong with Jazz fest. But if you prefer more rock and modern shit, it's Voodoo. Voodoo will be along the lines of the other major Live Nation festivals (ACL, Bonnaroo, Lollapolooza), but a little more quirky and a smaller lineup because of the way they manage the stages.

Yeah. It's supposedly 1 headliner. They'll have a backup plan (some have suggested Bon Jovi who I'm obviously not going to see but who will sell tickets).
Iguanas are playing 2nd weekend. I heard in a bar that Egg Yolk Jubilee might be there doing a 20th anniversary. They always do side parties during jazz fest, and those guys are cool and friends of mine, so I hope that turns out to be true.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to make it down for a few days of this. It is so cheap, not a bad drive, and I enjoy the company of my pal Vieux. Plus, those aftershows are boss.

I'm buying you 2 drinks.
Right on. I looked for you at Day For Night with no success.
Yeah, that was an insanely difficult fest to find people at. I was telling Rothric that we didn't even run into cmack until late Sunday, and we were trying to meet up all weekend, and he knows me and all my kids. I think it was like all the way to RZA before we ran into each other. Hit me up when you get to town. I just walk to jazz fest which is a little under 2 miles from where I live (a few blocks farther than where they have Voodoo). For me it's always lineup dependent on which days I go, but it will usually be 2 days each weekend. I'm not going on a day where the headliner is Bon Jovi vs. some chump R&B act. Without knowing much else, I'm going Panic Thursday and Trey Anastasio Band (likely) first Friday. If they get wild shit like Dead and Company or Paul McCartney, I'm obviously going those days too. So it shouldn't really be as hard this time around. Either way, I'll find you and buy one of those days or if we cross at a late show.

If Macca and Dead and Co come I will pay whatever just to park at your house. Lol.
Reading this thread and wanting to go to this for years has me looking at flights and there are some that would get me down a few days before second weekend for under $300. If Dead and Co is there, I may seriously look to sell my four Fenway tickets and trade up for this.
I think it's less likely than likely, but 2017 is shaping up to be a heavy amount of dead knockoff at least. There are rumors, but the tour kicks off 3 weeks later, so unless they wanted to do a one-off, I think they probably don't play it. Obviously hit me up if you come.

Yeah, I don't think it's super likely but if they do that would sell me and selling my Fenway tix might sell the GF. Either way it a fest we'd both enjoy and neither of us have been to New Orleans. My fest/Dead buddy said he'd be in if we go too so plans just randomly sprung into actual talk. She's bartending tonight and I'm texting to plant the seed of us going to JazzFest.
Nice. It's a pretty cool event. I think it's behind Voodoo and Buku, but it's one of the grandaddies going back to around 70 or 71 I think. I've never not had a ball, but there can be annoyances for the biggest shows. Second Thursday is always the best day to go and explore it because of the lack of crowds. And you have to know it goes like 11 or 12 to 7. But if you can work with that and factor in evening, late and overnight shows, you can get a month's worth of shit in a weekend. You have a little one or two so, I know there are some limits. But it's for sure a good time. You can bring in tarps and chairs and banners and staves and shit like that. I think collapsible coolers as well if you want to buy 5-10 beers at a time. Heat is hands off, and there are about 12 stages so you can usually find some cool random shit at the small stages.
