Nah I am always up. I had a different number for you so took a minute to figure out who would be at the Tribe show. I need to get down to Jazz Fest next year.
Drum jam off yesterday was great. Review, etc later.
Enjoy! My number 1 panic buddy is down there. Just sent me a pic with a Raging Cajun brew and a giant crabcake covered in a crawfish sauce. It will be interesting to see how they handle the Col. situation today.

Solid show for sure. We just kicked around mostly for that show but got over to a few songs of Egg Yolk Jubilee and a few by Tower of Power in the middle of the show. Last night's Blackalicious and Jurassic 5 show was pretty great. I was beyond exhausted, so I mostly just chilled back. But it was as packed as I've seen the Wolf in years, and everyone was going pretty nuts. Drum Jam on Wednesday, we got to watch Terrence Houston vs. Terrence Higgins; Adam Deitch vs. Alvin Ford, Jr., Stanton Moore vs. Johnny V and then Foo vs. some other drummer I didn't know. There was a keyboardist, bass player and guitarist all jamming behind the drum duels. Pretty cool.
Light work day for me today. Possible Joe Russo show tonight, possible sell the ticket at the venue because I'm already tired. But I'm not sure yet.
Middle kid did the Lettuce "Rage Fest" show. He said they came on at midnight, took a break around 1:30 and then played until about 3:30am. They had a couple of people he didn't recognize up on stage with them, and he said they didn't go to the after-party. That was to be super late at the same place Jurassic 5 played. They went off after 1, so there must have been another couple of hours before the Lettuce after-party. I'm assuming they must have played around 4 until 5 or 6 or so. Ugh. I had work today which already meant 4.5 hours of sleep was going to be it.
Taking the night off since I'm beat and had to work today. I have some friends out at the Bayou Rendezvous. I thought about going out but wasn't really feeling inspired by anything but Kamasi but didn't want to do that solo. Tomorrow should be pretty good. I'm thinking Soul Rebels, Big Sam, Henry Butler, Big Fredia, Stevie Wonder and Snoop Dogg. That should be a fun ass day. We will also be seeing New Mastersounds 3am Sunday show as planned. That should be great. I have to work Monday, so I didn't really plan on doing anything on Sunday. But people we know in Pretty Lights Fam says there will be a street party video shoot for the next released song. 15th hand this is something he was trying to do in all the cities he was going to do it in. Basically some kind of mobile show and then the only thing left behind would be a mural. Supposedly some crooked city employee wanted like $18k for whatever it was they were planning, so that's off. I don't have a line to the inside on that, but I think if it's Sunday afternoon or evening, we will probably be there whatever ends up happening. They have been reliable in the past regarding Derek, so I'm keeping my ears open.

I'm at mastersounds. Im 6'4", wearing a blue bandana and my Jorts have red stars all over them. I am pretty hard to miss
Oh fuck. I never took out my phone Rat but you were on the rail getting down and entertaining us. We were right up against the wall behind y'all by that side metal bar. That was a pretty good show as those guys really have ridiculous talent. We got home about 5:50am, left about 5:40, and it seemed like they were in last song mode. Snoop was fun, and Stevie was great, but it was packed as tf yesterday. Lines weren't bad though. I hope y'all are having a good time and look forward to the review.
Loved that show. Probably top 5 for the weekend overall. I just happened to check my phone at set break and figured I might as well take a stab in the dark. Indeed we were getting down on the rail though most of my folks were up in the seats. Thankfully the hotel where a couple friends were staying opened their pool at 6am. Maybe not thankfully for them but we sure needed it
Haha. Yeah y'all were just raging and having fun so we were enjoying that. Looks like Pretty Lights parade is on. We are going down that way this afternoon.
Pretty Lights video shoot, second line and show under the I-10 yesterday evening was awesome. I took the whole thing as Derek doing a remix of the City of New Orleans. He's the only major DJ that can do something like this which is why he is the best of them all. Meet up was on a neutral ground in the 7th Ward for about 4:30 for testing of the equipment. Pretty Lights along with his other DJ's and musicians (Borahm Lee, Chris Karnes, rappers, etc.) were riding on the back of this trailer that was mixing boards, sound boards and speakers. They rode on that while playing, and behind them walking were Trumpet Mafia and Soul Rebels Brass Band. They rode through those streets in the back of the 7th blasting Ooh Na Nay, Let's Go Get 'Em and other classic New Orleans songs. He had gotten permission (79ers?) to parade through those neighborhoods with a couple of Indian chiefs who were also part of the show. Most of the locals seemed to be into it as PL tends to be rooted in soul anyway.
Eventually the truck and rig just rolled up underneath the I-10 where there was a banner and small stage waiting. Derek then played from about 7:00 to 9:00. There were probably about 400 people there, so that was kind of cool. I'd give this show a solid 8 or 8.5 based on the creativity of the millennial generation giving something like this back as a way to end Jazz Fest. I also think it's Top 3 behind STS9 Axe the Cables and moe. Friday night show. I saw lots of great shows over the course of the last two weekends, so even though I didn't go that many days to the festival itself, it felt like a very successful Jazz Fest for me. I still need to see some videos from the days I didn't go (particularly Original Meters from yesterday). Otherwise, it was a blast.
Here's Live for Live Music's phone video from the parade. It's definitely not some typically cheezy EDM.

What a great fucking fest! I can defeinitely see coming back with a few of my friends. Most of my group were not prepared or capable of doing this one right unfortunately but that didn't stop a few of us from gettin it properly. Saw the sun rise twice and went into the fest every day. When I go back I will likely only go in 2 days and focus more on the late late nights.
I really loved the food and the city in general. So many places we didn't get to we will have to get back. If it wasn't even sweatier than austin for four months a year I could even see living there. Chargrilled at dragos were great, the duck I had at clancys was arguably the best I have ever had, soft shell and cochon po boys at the fest were amazing - pretty much everything we had there was great. Cochon butcher was also really nice. Mothers was fine, we were starving and it was walking distance.
I like the way dba is set up with the nooks. maple leaf was a bit tight. I'd like to go there at just some random time. Rock n bowl was a great way to close it all out though by the time we closed it down it was gaining a distinct David lynch vibe. I enjoyed blue Nile I guess but I was totally entranced by the band so I can't really say. Loved howlin wolf as well though it did get a bit tight in there for a little bit. We bought a lot of gin.
Music top ten: 1a. Orgone feat. Monophonics (howlin wolf) - so much energy! Loved the setlist, loved the banter, crowd had thinned to just people looking to get down. Just super fun. 1b. Toubab Krewe (blue Nile) - such a unique band with individually excellent musicians. Drummer in particular was captivating. 1c. New Mastersounds (joy) - so tight you couldn't slip a minnow through. Danced hard at this one. 4. Stevie (fest) - Stevie. 5. Dr Klaw (howlin wolf) - they covered Tyrone ffs 6. Trombone shorty (fest) - owns his closing role for good reason 7. Gospel tent in general (fest) - good times 8. EWF (fest) - even without Earth they still bring the boogie 9. Tower of Power - young singer really helps these great horn blowers remain relevant 10. Cedric Burnside - blues tent is set up oddly to me. Am I allowed to dance? I'm just here to party... I also loved dale watson, the rendezvous all stars, meters, maze, buddy guy, Irma Thomas, Jon cleary (covered teddy pendergrass!), and on and on it seems. Like I said, I could easily see coming back. This festival really rewards the effort you put into it and I almost pathologically research things. Crazy fun all around.

^^^looks like somebody knew what the fuck they were doing. glad you had an amazing time.
Nice Rat. It's a different animal because the festival ends at 7pm and you have up to 12 hours after that to see shit. Sometimes I can get tired from being sun-sapped being out there all day and need some recharge time. Hitting up giant meals puts me in nap mode, so any of those nights are liable to be, "I ain't going out until at least 10pm." I'm glad you had a good time, and I agree 100% you can get as much out of those two weekends as you want but it's in relation to the effort put in. My brother in law Woody is a waiter at Clancy's, but I haven't been over there in a few years. It's never disappointing. I've been looking forward to yours and stillwater 's reviews since the fest. He had that ridiculous list of restaurants his crew was planning on, so hopefully he'll review some of those if not the fest itself.

I had the best time ever. Will write something up later today. Thanks for the reminder.
Live for Live Music chronicled the moe. run. We went to night #2 at the Civic. Apparently they played a 4th show at Preservation Hall, so that would have been Midnight Preserves. Pretty cool for anyone who got to go to that since they don't announce in advance who that night's special guest will be. Jabco told me he went to night 3. Covers there included Pink Floyd's Fearless (off of Meddle) and Zappa's Cosmik Debris. We got Rolling Stones Can't You Hear Me Knockin' and then some other cover work with moe.kuaz
Luckily some fan standing by where we were at captured a bunch of extended clips from Shows 1, 2 and 3. Night #2 ended up in my Top 2 of both weekends. There was too much else going on to do the entire run, but I'm damn glad I went the night I did.
Now with some time to reflect this was definitely better than any of the six bonnaroos I have been to as a festival. And they actually care about and cater to their fan base that they were built on so I will 100% be back before going to another bonnaroo. 2019 seems very likely.
