To be fair, Nelsonville is a great fest and you should go to it regardless. But I know what you mean. The closest big fests to Columbus (assuming you're from Columbus, just realized idk where in OH you're from) are Lolla and Roo, and neither are cheap. You also have some middy fests to chose from; Forecastle & Bunbury. Hippy fests like Sundance & Hookah, and then you have whatever fest Columbus tries to get off the ground every summer... But none of them are the same as what you get at something like Roo. Which is why I'm really hoping they can right the ship.
You guys are way too negative about this whole thing, I realize attendance was down last year, but the lineup was still insane. Seeing Pearl Jam, Tame Impala, Dead and Co, Ween, Father John Misty, it cant get much better than that. I don't understand where all of the hate for the lineup last year is coming from, there were plenty of great shows playing the same time as Halsey, Macklemore, Chainsmokers, etc
You're right. The lineup was insane. Shorter sets, camping passes, limited late night, 35,000 less people, and lack of vintage sets that costs more is totally super great. It can't get much better than Ween!!!
To see a Roo lineup that is "insane" just look back at the 2013-14 lineups, even the 2015 undercard was amazing, I hated that everyone shunned the 2015 lineup simply because of weak headliners. I'd do anything to relive those years.

I love the laid-back atmosphere, and I swear Southeast Ohio must be in Canada, because everyone is just so damned friendly, or courteous at the very least. I'm from Cleveland/Akron, so there is no big fest nearby. I'll continue to sample the local-ish smaller ones, but I'll just really miss what we had at Roo. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and LN will fix Roo after all.

it's simply a matter of opinion, to say they aren't as musically talented is false, sure I'm not a huge fan of J Cole or Ellie Goulding but there were great shows going on while they performed like Floss, Leon Bridges, Claypool Lennon Delerium. You can't get the Avett Bros or Bon Iver every single year

If they want to generate an audience, they need to go to the drawing board, take a look at those lineups and figure out how to get 80k people to travel to a farm in BFE in the middle of a swampy Tennessee June.

The fact that they had about a 40% decrease in attendance in one year would seem to indicate that. And the lineup last year is almost quantifiably worse. The difference between it and past great ones is that the lineups before were FILLED with great artists from top to bottom. You had to wrestle with awful conflicts but that made you sure that who you were seeing was the best act for you to see. This year it was a lot of choosing the one pretty good artist playing at any one time.

that's a good point with picking who you want to see because that was a big issue for me in '15, but I've got plenty of faith they'll figure it out and give the people an epic lineup this year, although I hope they dont do that Conan shit again lol

I don't know a lot about acquisitions, so someone tell me if this sounds dumb.
In light of the LN purchase of AC entertainment, is it possible the significantly lower spending on acts in 2016 was an effort to boost ACE's net income for the year ended so they could negotiate a better purchase price from LN? Since they sold a significant number of tickets in recent prior years (despite a decreasing trend) the clearly cheaper/less acts this year could have been an attempt to let the bonnaroo name ride and hopefully still sell 70,000 tickets and make significantly higher profits.
In other words, the lower spending on acts was a short term strategy to increase the purchase price, not a long term strategy and therefore not a predictor of the quality of future lineups.
It would be interesting to know when ACE's fiscal year end is. 6/30 would make sense.
One other thing, sometimes in acquisitions there is a "seller earnout" clause in the purchase agreement which stipulates a bonus to be paid to the seller based on future profits. Such a clause would create a strong incentive for ACE to book profitable lineups over the next year or two if that was the case. If ACE is even still handling booking, I don't recall where we landed on that.

Look I know I'm going to catch major shit for this but Macklemore was a really enjoyable show, my group was there and we had a blast dancing around, granted he's not an artist I was looking for in the top 6 but I still really enjoyed his performance.

To each his own. I was dragged to that show by one of my friends and I can honestly say it was the worst show I've ever attended. I was ecstatic when the lightning delay got me out an hour early.

I agree. Macklemore was fun for people who like Macklemore (which I do). I was sad that it got disrupted by the storm because I ended up not going back to it afterwards.
