Well, my first non-hangout gulf shores trip has been foiled by hurricane/trop storm nate...sux. luckily i have a buddy on isle of palms and can audible(and avoid a major letdown for the kids). I really wanted to see the non-fest shores.
My favorite lineup. So many performers I wanted to see and got to see. I didn't spend much time at the pool, condo, or beach. Got to buy Jason Isbell a beer and have a smoke break after his show. Front row for Petty, Mule, and Black Crowes as well as KOL. Moe, Grouplove, Lance Herbstrong, The Weeks, Colin Lake, Wild Cub, Delta Rae, The Werks, The Revivalists, Moon Taxi, Shovels and Rope, Galactic, Jim James, TAB, The Shins....wow. Love to see a lineup that good for 2018 Hangout.
2013 was my first Hangout. Had never hard of it before. A buddy of mine was getting divorced and messaged me "I need to do a trip, you in?". He ended up finding this and we jumped at the lineup. I'm a jam guy, he was an EDM guy, my girlfriend is a pop girl and we all found stuff we liked. Best fest I have ever been to and fell in love with the Gulf beaches, foods, friends and party.
If I lived anywhere near Cali I'd be at that CalJam Fest 100%. Lineup is right up my alley. Was in the process of making plans for it but no1 else wanted to make the trip from Chicago.
I searched the ol inforoo for this fest to see if anyone had any parking tips and the only mentions were in the Hangout thread. Ha! I haven't been on this thread much since knowing i probably wont be able to go to Hangout this year and I couldn't take the hype! Anyway, we're headed to CalJam tomorrow should be pretty sweet. I'll report back.
Leaving work early to go to dinner with Funky Dawgs Brass Band before attending their show tonight. Awesome way to end a week. Hope it ends in a parade line around the college and then to the bar.
you know them? those guys rule! we had a funk show here in the summer and they literally played all day and night between the block party before the show, their own set and in between every other set in the crowd.
I remember...agh the good days when I thought Hangout could and would book anyone huge after that year...I would honestly just still after all these years of being on my mocks atleast like them to book Pearl Jam! :/
Saw two hangout alums last night: J Roddy (my favorite) and Sleepwalkers. Both were fabulous. And I scored cool mom points when I brought home a signed poster for my son and a pic of me with Roddy. 🤘🤘

Hell yeah nice! I had wanted to go myself to J. Roddy and ended up having to miss it. Glad you had a good time and got that for the kids!

I didn't know them personally before tonight. My girlfriend books bands at a local community college and got them in so I got to go to dinner. Great guys and a lot of fun.

Don't miss the Undertow in Orange Beach on Canal Rd Saturday or Sunday afternoons for their AYCE royal reds, crawfish, potatoes, and corn. Dumpy place but, kids are welcome, the price is right, and you can go out back and sit on picnic tables. Some days they have a guy doing the tiki bar thing. I played there once. Fun. www.facebook.com/undertow.bar/

seeing my first Trombone Shorty show tonight! Vintage Trouble is opening but I wont get there in time. I love this Loudie app, anyone in a major city should have it. I got hooked up with free tix to Lizzo, Wild Cub/STS9, MuteMath, and now Shorty so far.

Kids,
CalJam was pretty sweet. The venue was HUGE like probaby the biggest amphitheatre I've ever been to. Definitely worth a trip if a fest you like is there.
Highlights: Royal Blood killed it. I was most excited about seeing them and they did not disappoint.
There's a tiny water park at this venue and they opened it up for the fest. It was pretty dead when we checked it out even though it was 98 and no clouds all day. It's no beach but two water slides and a huge wading pool with fountains is the next best thing.
At the entrance there were buckets marked as "Amnesty Buckets" where you could lose your "illegal contraband" before you get in. Maybe cuz it's California and we got the legal weed it works but I was thinking about all those kids at Hangout that get busted for having 1 joint and how nice that would be. Ah well.
The LOUDEST sound system I've heard. No sound problems here. I had to bust out the ear plugs a couple times and I never usually do for outdoor shows. Dave Grohl even said he chose this venue because it's the only place loud enough.
Caught The Struts, some White Reaper, Wolf Alice, Royal Blood, half the JapanDroids (not really a fan), Cage, Qotsa and Foo. Two thumbs up.
