Sturgill Simpson played a rock our butts off set on the Wharf in May. It is not a whiney, slow, country set for sure.
I concur, I see this as a possibility, and he killed it when he played in Columbus. however in my opinion Robert Plant will never be anywhere near a hangout lineup.
Old days he’s an easy #4 Surf Closer. But what is he to what Hangout is today? Whatever they call the Paladia stage? He’ll probably be at Jazz Fest and Memphis in May if things work out with the tour.

I agree my wife and I were talking about it the other day when the Stevie wonder/ Tom Petty poster got posted, wondering whether we’d ever see a “legacy” headliner again.....
I don't think Baldwin County would let Die Antwoord drive through there.
I can't imagine they played there once! I think they would be 'banned for life from Hangout' after that set I saw at Lolla 16. God I would want to see them again, though. Yolanda!
I'm good with more reggae. I prefer the Jammie bands I guess. First night at Bonnaroo was a lot of fun. I went in at noon, no problem, no lines, awesome music from Luke Combs, July Talk, somebody with Fenders on Who stage, The Orwells killed it. I got to play Wagon Wheel with some random folks at a music instruments booth, hungout with paulinky and met someone who knew me from San Antonio ???? A couple beers and glass of wine fogged my memory...friend named Robin...LOL. Got a free bandana made for my son. BBQ I ate at Hamageddon sucked. Watched a littl Preds vs Penguins on big screens. Traffic coming in as I was going out backed up all the way to I-24. Blue lights everywhere. Tomorrow is big day and U2 so will have to redbull it.
I will be surprised if Hangout folds. I enjoyed everything I heard this year. I will say there are a lot more people my age at Bonnaroo and those two new bathrooms are awesome. Hangout/Gulf Shores could learn a lesson in bathroom design from Bonnaroo. Weather was marvelous tonight. Everyone I met today at Bonnaroo was friendly, kind, and same goes with Hangout.
Had a fine time, Bob. Hope your other fests, etc. were great! Best wishes to you!
RKS was good. I like the KOL sounding songs the best. Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real was excellent. So was the local band Creature Comfort that played on the Miller Lite Stage. Deep Vally is hoot. Those two gals really rock it. Their vocals needed adjusting IMO. Jon Bellion was good. Teagan and Sarah were good. Michael Kiwanuka is probably the most awesome guitar, songwriter, and singer I have heard lately. I am going shopping on iTunes for some of his bluesy stuff.
I ran into paulinky . Good guy. Decided to go home and drink. Dust wasn't too bad but, it was a hot sun and after a late night last night, I'm good. Probably get the RHCPs at Hangout next year and I've seen them, Warpaint, Cage the Elephant and The Head and the Heart so I'm good. Probably go back in tomorrow for Umph, Royal Blood, Greensky Bluegrass, and part of the Bluegrass Superjam. Maybe catch a little BADBADNOTGOOD and Lorde.
Traffic and Security were great today. PM me and I'll share a security tip.
Thank you, sir! Will state for the record that Bob is a cool dude. Really enjoyed Lukas Nelson set. Another one that was one of best of the weekend.
2017 shows have started off slow for me being that I've been saving for Life is Beautiful Fest and doing Voodoo Fest as well so far right now top 5 shows are: 1. Weezer- HOF 2. RHCP- Nola concert with their encore Nola superjam 3. Mumford and Sons- HOF 4. Band of Horses- HOF last song everyone dancing in the rain was one of the coolest things 5. Chance the Rapper- HOF
I know most people don't like them on here but The Killers are my favorite band so pretty pumped for Voodoo plus Foo Fighters and Kendrick Lamar all of which will be 2nd times seeing. But most of all can not wait to finally see Gorillaz and it be my first trip to Vegas plus Muse, Chance the Rapper round 2, Blink 182 (idc childhood nostalgia), Cage the Elephant(2nd favorite band but can never see enough), Schoolboy Q and after this last album even 2 Chainz lol
Sorry you missed them at Roo. Have seen them 7 times & that show was the best one yet. Jeezus Christ, the band was cooking that night!
Bring that Sex Murder Party goodness to the beach please. Oh my geez y’all Gorillaz A++ sept there probably could have been more gorillas in stage.
Krisp I was just watching videos of Life is Beautiful Fest Gorillaz set and even tho I was there pretty close up I still got chills man. I honestly usually don’t wanna see the same artist headline a fest I’m going to less then a year but on Gorillaz would easily still be happy as hell to get them somehow at Hangout Fest this year to see again!!
Front Bottoms, Macklemore, Travis Scott. Add em to the mock.
Not going to lie. That Macklemore set in 2013 was fun. We then saw him in NYC a few months later because we had nothing to do one night and got $8 tickets and he played for 45 minutes with no opening acts and repeated Cant Hold Us in full THREE TIMES. The worst show I have ever seen by far.
Now that the complete release of a Robert Plant's new album is out there, I'd dig him playing the beach. A "stairway to Heaven/whole lotta love" as a closer would be amazing.
I was impressed when he played at the Saenger in Mobile last year. His band the Shapeshifters were great.
We saw RKS in Pensacola tonight. They put on a great show and after a slim crowd for J Roddy a couple weeks ago at the same venue I was shocked at the packed crowd for tonight's show! the lead singer was also super kind and patient with the big crowd waiting for him outside the venue after the show. Will definitely go see them any chance I can. LOTS of dancing and sing a longs--a great way to spend a Tuesday evening
Macklemore huh? Welp, cya later. Travis Scott completely makes sense as a big hip-hop act to close down the Surf stage one of the nights but to have him and M&RL is horseshit. It would take some nice gets to overcome those 2 which would be locks for the top 6.
krisplettuce - Your a Man Man fan I think? Lead singer has another pretty fun band named after him (Honus Honus):
Also, for any newly appointed Mutemath fans from this year's set. Their killer drummer, Darren King, has left the group. As a long time fan this is huge, especially that they lost their other founding member Roy. Theb and is continuing on for now through their next tour and album cycle, but after that who knows down to one original member, the singer Paul.
That's the guy who duct tapes his head!!! Oh man, he's badass. Hope they parted on good terms.
Those would be 2 hip-hop/rap acts in the top 6 so I would think the rest would be filled with Rock/Indie/EDM/Pop.
ARCADE FIRE | LANA DEL RAY | LCD SOUNDSYSTEM MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS | ODESZA | TRAVIS SCOTT
I doubt that gets our group back to the beach. Would have to have some nice gems in the undercard.
Agreed. And 0% chance I’d go. Arcade Fire would be the only draw for me, and they aren’t worth a 1,000 investment. I’ve seen Scott a few times and don’t hate his shows. LCD is a big question mark to me. The back to back NOLA shows next weekend will go a long way toward me figuring them out. I don’t see any way the Saturday show coming out the Foo Fighters would be anything but a let down. But I’m trying not to be presumptuous until I see them. I’ve skipped Macklemore enough times already. Odesza live is possibly the most overrated act of the 20-teens, and I’ve passed through or seen 4 sets so far. Idgaf about Lana and don’t ever need to see her though she’s a realistic HO performer. I know some will argue for friends and a great setting. And this isn’t going to be popular, but I don’t even consider Baldwin County when thinking about Gulf beaches. I’m from down here, and we have been going to the beach decades longer than Hangout has existed. I’ll just say that between the ‘necks and 50, I don’t really ever need to go there if I’m not going to Hangout or to see something at The Wharf. I put Gulf Shores somewhere below Panama City Beach on the culture scale. And that’s fd up because Mobile and Pensacola, the two closest real cities are cool as shit as far as I’m concerned even if still a bit Bible Belty to me. I’m coming out like a broken record, but my reason for going to Hangout is 100% for the music. Stop the progression toward a big frat party appealing to SEC world kids who don’t know shit besides pop, and I’ll consider going back. I’m not asking for a Day for Night level abstract and eclectic lineup. I’m just asking for some good music. Since they have heavily regressed the last 2 years, they are going to have to bring good rock, jam, rap, EDM and jamtronica for me to return. We will see in a few weeks. Obviously I’m not optimistic, but I’m not going to be a complete hater at this point. I could see them having a lot of shit and maybe some cool acts like pigeons, lettuce or break science that help dull the pain. But it’s going to take more to get my money and time. Here’s hoping that the ghost of Huka Entertainment rises from the ashes to bring back the lineup to decent. Edit to add that I know plenty of people from and who live down there that are cool as shit. Any attacks on south Baldwin Co. is aimed at the masses and the heat.
I've been watching Narcos the last couple of weeks so I would be scared to death, but it's good to see that Gorillaz and LCD will still be touring in '18.

I was really, really tired at work for a few days after that last Narcos season dropped.
I may have to drop Hangout for this next year. Hot Lanta in the spring. Some of my favorite musicians. Like esteban said, I want to hear some music and not a frat party.
