Btw I know they’re 2 completely different fests but I saw rock on the range which is the same weekend as hangout is announcing they’re lineup cyber Monday. Does hangout usually annniunce the same time I just can’t remember.
ne215, saw Prophets of Rage at 2017 Louder Than Life in Louisville. They closed the fest. Was front row & had to survive a completely-wilder-than-I-would-have-thought Rise Against set. The crowd surfers were like a conveyer belt all thru the set & coming right over me. Have seen Korn sets where there wasn't as much crowd surfing. Wonderful experience, though (Prophets of Rage)! The 2 lead singers work well together. Heard the Cypress Hill covers I've always wanted to hear :-) Zach De LaRocha can twist those strings too! I think they would go fine on the beach. Play before the headliner on Main Stage or close Surf/Chevy Stage. Their politics might make them 'unpalatable' for Baldwin County, tho...
Zack is the former Rage lead singer. Tom Morello is the guitarist for Rage/Prophets. How did you like LTL? We almost went again this year. Enjoyed it in 2015.
Thanks for the correction! Am embarrassed about that. Anyway, really enjoyed this year's LTL. Weather was very nice & I think you get great bang for your buck in number of acts you'll see in 1 day. No problem with clientele, everyone was nice. Highly recommend it, if you enjoy hard rock/metal/punk. This year, new bands I saw were Palisades, For We Are Many, New Years Day, Sleeping With Sirens, Through Fire, Fire From the Gods, Gojira, Hailstorm, Ozzy, Black Map, Joyous Wolf, Greta Van Fleet, Palaye Royale, Falling in Reverse, Stone Sour & Prophets. Not bad at all!
So did my first Voodoo Fest and had a blast! I know I have said didn’t get the appeal of LCD Soundsystem but will have to say they were pretty awesome live! Also prophets of Rage was too great play Kendrick as well! Brand New into Foo Fighters was perfect. And Sunday saw Cold War Kids, Amine, the Head and the Heart, Miguel, and The Killers which ended up being my favorite day of live music!
We had a pretty similar Sunday but Sunday’s lineup wasn’t made with me in mind. I saw some good stuff, but I felt like Saturday was the best day overall and Friday night was the best nightly run with LCD, Prophets and Kendrick. I always tell y’all that Voodoo is underrated on the festival circuit and particularly the city festival circuit. It’s not that I’m biased because I live here. It’s the food, crowd, party mentality side of things that make it more chill than most people would expect.
I’m glad you had a good time.
Couldn't make it this year, due to family commitments, but had a good friend who went to her 1st & said is was epic. Best fest she's ever been to. Will now go back every year. I sure want to go back. Glad a great time was had!
listening to Lorde for the first time, i only know that 'Royals' song but this all the sounds the same. Im on the 4th song of the first album and its pretty boring but im gonna power through a little more.
Off that album, the only good song (IMO) is 'Buzzcut Season'. Saw her at Roo. Lot of good choreography & production (although set was delayed about 40 mins). Just not my cup of tea.
I missed the Lorde show at Roo but, my friends enjoyed it. I like Ellie and Halsey so I'm good with either. I'm hoping for a solid undercard. I really like Jimmy Lumpkin and Head and the Heart so performers of that genre, blues or folky would be awesome. I'd like to see Gary Clark again and Nate Ratliffe. I think Michael Kiwanuka or Lukas Nelson would be solid Hangout shows as a well. OCMS or Greensky Bluegrass would be icing on the cake.

According to the Pearl Jam forum, somebody said that they heard that the band was placing holds on arenas in Texas for the spring. Obviously, I’m taking it with a grain of salt. We don’t know if it would be in April or May. It would make sense to do some shows in the Southwest before a Hangout appearance though.
1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/4: knock2 3/7: Inhaler* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
I look like? Really? I would rather listen to some classic rock, folk, blues, but either of those two ladies or Lorde better than Phoenix, Sigur Rios, Marshmello, and a lot of other people I've heard at Hangout. I guess that would be a "like" light.

Sigur Ros in the same line as Marshmello...painful.

Come on Bob. Don't go in over your head. No personal offense, but that's pretty f'n ignorant.

esteban very few of your comments aren't offensive, but no offense taken. Just saying different strokes for different folks and that is usually respected in here. I didn't like Phoenix or Sigur Rios. The older I get, you will get, certain sounds, shrill like an amplified base fiddle, will kill your ears and give you a massive headache. I didn't like Phoenix because I couldn't get the lyrics at all. I realize you love Marshmello...LOL. NOBODY PUTS DOWN MORE MUSICIANS THAN YOU esteban. Cheers and can we lighten up.

But, diff'rnt strokes and all that.
Yeah, I couldn't believe they were even in the same sentence. I don't buy "different strokes" in this case. Bob was confused by the opening. He probably should have went to show "X" and stopped in for the end which was a crescendo of sound - except there was no end because thunderstorms cut the show off after 3 songs. It turned into an incredibly orchestrated wall of sound with some of the best lighting of the year coming from 3 performers. Many of us who saw the show in a theatre will tell you it was a top 1 or top 2 show of the year. You have to understand what you're seeing. This isn't some kick back blues band or carcass of classic rock or super teenie bop pop. It would have been as good as Hangout could ever have been though I do understand the abstract nature of some of the compositions can be difficult for those who seek familiar beats and structures. I'm not hating on Bob for his opinion. I'm just shaking my head on the inclusion and comparison with wimp pop.

LOL. You know me, I hate some wimp pop. That's the train I jump off of.

I see where you're coming from and where Bob is coming from, too. I can see why people don't like Sigur Ros, but I think there should at least be a level of respect for their musicianship to get to their level of compositions.
Here's hoping for more challenging music and less bubblegum, tho it'd seem that the ship has sailed for that at Hangout.
Bob...people can enjoy The Allman Brothers or Kid Rock, or even both, but to say they are in the same league is musical ignorance. Despite what some people's opinions might be.

Well this would be some of the best hangout news for me personally if this could happen.

You are not listening to what I said. I said I don't like them, or that performance, for a valid reason. I never questioned their talent, fans, likeability, etc. I agree with what you said. Don Williams was a great songwriter and Eric Clapton recognized him as such, but he was not "popular.
What are some examples of wimp pop? The Archie's, The Monkees, Disney performers, The Jackson 5?
I'm sure somebody likes these folks. Talent?
I watched a 12 year old shred a Fender with some incredible blues licks the other night. You never know.
I made a point to go see Sigur Ros for myself. I liked their music on iTunes. It was rainy, my sinuses we're awful, and that screaming bass fiddle gave me a migraine. Nodoubt they are talented, but not for me that night.

Yeah. It sailed away with Huka Entertainment. I still had fun in 2015 because a lot of the rap and EDM was stuff I listen to or see live. But I'm not shelling out a grand to go to a bubblegum festival despite lots of cool people (Bob included) from the past who still go because of a few sets, friends and nostalgia - and the beach. But it sucks that Goldenvoice who otherwise curates some pretty cool stuff around the country would have wanted to turn this into a pop radio, high school beach party. I'm not hating on that type of a festival as an event. But when they destroyed something I enjoyed 4 years in a row, it's really left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not going to settle for mostly chumpy music if I have to travel. It's one thing if it's down the road or across the street. It's another when it takes effort, lodging, transportation, time, etc.
I realize I come off as a big Hangout Fest hater. But I easily shelled out up to 2 grand each year depending on which of my kids went and beer and stuff. I'd be happy to do it again. But they would need to change their booking and be more inclusive with what originally brought most of us there to begin with. And not to completely agree with Beachbob here, but yeah, give the old people some classic rock, bring back more jam which was what made Hangout to begin with, stop catering to a 16 year old population when they can't even get in without a parent. F'n aholes.

Word. And that's fair. You would have probably been blown away later in the show when they opened up all the fucking sound and lights to the experience, but it was an evolving show.
Wimp Pop - You hit it right at least from our childhood. The Archies (lmao) are absolutely a forerunner. Melanie ("I got a brand new pair of roller skates) would have been too. Sometimes there is a journey musicians or bands take to emerge from it. Look at the Beatles pre-maharishi era. "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" or "Love, Love Me Do" don't really compare with later work from maybe Revolver, White Album, Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road, etc. Sometimes it's a progression. From 2016 Hangout (which really doesn't look terrible in retrospect but isn't inspiring either) Calvin Harris, Ellie, Panic! At the Disco, Chainsmokers, etc. fit into that. Weeknd is a little more musical, but his songs are pretty cheesy even if the lyrics are bad-boy shit. OTOH, Florence, Shakes, Lenny and Cage were interspersed with the first 4 I mentioned, so I guess if you can work your schedule around pop crap, you can still see stuff like that or RTJ, Foals, Wailers, Vince Staples or Pepper. I know you like Judah and the Lion, and I'll see them at some point. But they just need to either bring back more jam and rock or generally stop worrying about hitting the most popular stuff. I'll totally come back for a lineup that appeals a little to me. Foo Fighters would go a long way.

This will be my 7th hangout. I didn’t discover this board until the second, however I find it humorous that Pearl Jam has been a rumored headliner every single year. I think it would be great, just don’t see it happening.
