Saw them at Louder Than Life. The lead singer is 17 and one of the guitarists can't be anymore than 19. Did enjoy their set.
I checked them out recently because I saw Sarge raving. Not for me right now. Lot's of potential, but...I mean the lead singer sounds like and literally mimics Robert Plant...they're just kids so if they can find a little more originality...they already seem to be blowing up quick though so what do I know.
The extent to which they try to mimic Led Zeppelin is painful to listen to. Just start a cover band.

this lineup might be fucking atrocious, but i really just want to go for kendrick, the killers, and st. vincent. if they have their volunteering option again, i will be doing that. if not, i'm out. there's no way i'll be paying the near $300 they're asking to attend this shitfest.
2017: 2/24 Twenty One Pilots 4/1 Radiohead 6/7 Glass Animals 9/10 Modest Mouse 9/21 Arcade Fire 9/29 Kings of Leon 10/3 Foster the People 10/17 The xx 10/22 LCD Soundsystem 11/8 Bon Iver
I really wonder if colleged age kids look at this lineup and think its amazing and cant wait.
A view at FB comments reveals it's old dudes whining about the goodol'days, but mostly teenage-20something girls who are all about it tagging their friends for plans. That's exactly who they catered this lineup towards, and I suppose I do not blame them.

Thats exactly who they are trying to pull. Sounds like they did a good job then.

Depends on how much music they know and see. Casual fans of partying and radio music probably love it. Mine are psyched about Day for Night. None of their posse of 25-30 fest travelers go to Hangout anymore. It's not for musically adventurous kids.

Kendrick Lamar - The Killers - The Chainsmokers - Zedd Halsey - Odesza - Portugal. The Man - Logic - Galantis SZA - Foster the People - Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals St. Vincent - Cold WAr Kids - AWOLNATION - Grouplove Slightly Stoopid - Bleachers - Blackbear - Oh Wonder Lil Pump - The Struts - Getter - Manchester Orchestra Dej Loaf - Greta Van Fleet - Pussy Riot - Nothing but Thieves
idk i feel like it needs an act between killers and chainsmokers. almost like this lineup should have Pheonix from last year on it. I cant see chainsmokers playing on the mainstage, surf at most.

As it stands, promotion for Portugal to Surf Close, sub headline or radical tent closer? I think they played 2nd to last on Surf MMJ/Beck Sunday in 2015. So Kendrick main close which will be the main event. Killers close main. Odesza, Chainsmokers other Surf closers and Logic, Zedd and .Paak or St. Vincent tent.close? Somebody’s still got to close the main stage. Halsey sub hl or possibly Surf Close.
Still left with Chainsmokers to deal with it not Surf close.

as a 21 year old college student, i think this line up is absolutely... awful. however some of my friends couldnt understand why i was so upset sooooo yep theres that lmao
Someone really has to help me out here. You got EDC, Ultra, Electric Forest kind of EDM festivals all over the country. You probably got your hiphop, country and folk type of festivals aswell. So why is there a need for a rock/indie/alternative festivals to make up a program that will only appeal to that type of demographic when there are so many festivals, concerts and parties for 'the kids'. This line up makes me feel like Pemberton last year. Hangout and so many more festivals in the US got no backbone at all. They want to appeal everyone at once and don't know what to do. Do they know what kind of demographic they want to target by making up their program, or not? There are already so many things to offer to that demographic and you're gonna create even more 'offer'. This will only lead to the (festival)bubble splashing between this and the next few years.
The festivals do it on themselves by programming such things, you attract a certain audience and will leave a certain audience left out and those will probably choose something else this year and probably the following years if you continue to program such way. I can understand that there's a dance tent or something but that an act like The Chainsmokers can headline a festival in the US that isn't EDM based baffles me.
I think it's like the stereogum article said, it's a lineup based on streaming which = lazy and/or fear. And they probably should be fearful because they haven't developed a client base...which is surely do to all the management changes that have occurred through the years. Without the venue they have, it would have already failed. I thought '17 was a little bit of a bounce back from '16, but this year is the undeniable bottom of the run. But, I guess if it draws, then the formula works. We'll see!
Look up the history (line up wise) of V Festival in the UK, if they keep doing what they're doing like this then that is gonna be the result in a few years lol. I think they announced or are gonna announce very soon that there is no room for another V-edition next year due to no/barely interest from the people/audience and their competitors (Creamsfields and Leeds/Reading) who keep doing what they're doing..
It's true tho. Pemberton was also very afraid, just read some of things the social media team tried to do to be/act "cool" leading up to their announcement. Cringe. I guess we'll see but I don't see it going very well for them.
Hangout is the McDonald's dollar menu of festivals
And/or
Gulf Shores said this is the last year so they threw this together without care. -Fest Owl mentioned "uncertainty in longevity) -Recent renewed contract put the fest on a year to year basis

I know what they were going for, popularity. And because numerous people who will read this were willing to put up with that the last few years, their revenues didn't suffer. No one wanted to admit it was a game of limbo and settling for what they gave you. Again, that's fine if this is Gulfport Music Fest or Bayfest or whatever where the tickets are $25.00 or even free. But when you're shelling out > $1,000 for a musical event that does not deliver musically yet people are still willing to support it, they're going to get even more brazen with it. Fuck those Goldenvoice. Fuck Hangout. Fuck Gulf Shores.
Here's a list of some of the great shit I've seen at Hangout. Put this list up against the 2016, 2017 and 2018 lineups. See the difference? No chance of them getting my $ now. And no, I'm not going to settle for this pile of shit lineup and pretend like it's even worth the price of a ticket.
