We’re gonna go for a couple half days with the kids. Really don’t have many on my list to see. Anyone suggest we catch additional acts on Friday/Saturday?
Roots of Creation>>Cold War Kids>>>PTM
Skip Marley>>>Bleachers (my 8yr old’s a fan)>>>Tank and the Bangas>>>Manchester Orch
I'm not sure on the exact times or when you're going to be there, but
Friday: The Green is a pretty cool Reggae band. They've been around at least 10 years or so. Tash Sultana is worth your time. She's a one-man-band, multi-instrumentalist from Australia. Her Coachella stream set caught me off guard. She plays everything live and loops continuously while playing guitar, pedals, pan flutes, mandolins and what not. Check her out if you don't know her yet. She's bad ass.
Saturday: St. Vincent is great. You probably won't be out that late with the kids, but if you go back to the tent closer, it's probably going to be in the Top 4 of the weekend. I like NONAME and Anderson.Paak & The Free Nationals. A.P&TFN play lots of different types of music from power rock to jazz to soul to a little rap. He's also a great drummer. NONAME is a poet/singer and also the name of the band. They have a pretty cool band. She's usually drunk (as noted above) but she also seems to use that for stage anxiety. I find her/them entertaining, but it's a popular act among the back end of millennials and post-millennials.
Skim through some of this:
Thanks! Won’t get there in time for The Green and won’t stay late enough for St Vincent (although I remember seeing a livestream of her and not loving it). Will definitely add Tash and Anderson Paak to the list. My sons a drummer. Will try to catch some Noname on our way out...
I will also note that I saw The Voidz. How the mighty have fallen...
No good?
Nah, it was (IMO) so much worse than The Strokes set I saw at Roo back whenever (11 or 12?). Awkward breaks between songs & Julian was hunching around & with back to audience 1/2 the time. The introspective or shoegaze or whatever it was is just not my cup of tea, I must say. The guitar player who looked like Weird Al's brother was badass, though.

I loved the new album. From what I've read, it seems Julian both loves and hates the attention.
I've seen the Strokes once and it was ridiculously good albeit on a much different setting. SXSW Samsung Galaxy show in a post office, open bar, less than 2k people, the warehouse decked out like a spaceship. Shit was out of control all for free. Their Strokes HL performance did seem lackluster.
New map looks like they nixxed the Palladia stage or whatever it was called most recently. Also schedule looks like less acts playing the main stages each day then years prior?
They sure did. Will be interesting to see where the Pre-party is this year. Goldenvoice sure did ruin this festival.

I'm sure they can do better. They played in daytime & that can throw some of these acts off. His vocals certainly sounded different than 'Imperial Phase Strokes'. Hope all at Hangout are havin fun!
Still not an announcement of a webcast. Will be really bummed if I can't watch it from a far.
LiveXLive secured the rights for 3 years last year, so it’s just a matter of waiting for them to release the broadcast schedule. Last year’s stream schedule was terrible, so I didn’t bother. I thought 2016s was bad too. They put up most of the shit I wouldn’t have gone to anyway. I love doing nothing but watching concerts all weekend, so hopefully there are a couple of sets each day worth watching.
that is an nice upgrade. Big Boi's new album is terrific. Pretty cool hes played with OutKast, Big Grams, and now solo too. I wonder if hes done that anywhere else, off the top of my head maybe ACL.
Yeah, that's a big up-trade there. It will be either Friday or Sunday since he's playing here Saturday.
Still no news from LiveXLive on the stream schedule yet. FORTUNATELY, they will also be streaming Rock on the Range and then EDC if the Hangout Stream sucks. I'm still digging for the schedules. This is all I have.

Looking at Bamabeachcams.com and it looks like Gulf Shores has replaced the boardwalk near the Surf Stage. This would be on the walk from the Boom Boom Tent to the Surf Stage. Pretty wide open now....

Im really hoping with the announcement of the new Tenacious D world tour that they extend into 2019 and finally play hangout fest for my triumphant return to gulf shores since they shafted me on Galantis, Saint vinny & Kendrick!

Wife and I are already scheming for 2019. Even tho the lineup wasn't up to our liking, we are missing being in Gulf Shores RIGHT NOW!!

I hear you if you haven't spent a lot of time between there and say Apalachicola, but there are probably 20 better beaches on the North Gulf than Gulf Shores.

I dont doubt you at all. After 8 years endulging and seeing that yellow Hangout tower rolling down 59 early Wednesday morning, it just kind of gets etched into your mindset.
haha. Yeah. I don't hate it either. Sometimes the traffic is f'd heading down the 59 or coming in from the East. But there's enough to do there to entertain almost anyone. I tend to equate it more with Ft. Walton or Panama City Beach - which while all completely different - are most similar to Gulf Shores from a things to do standpoint. I don't know if I could rank them all, and some of the best beaches are in residential areas of south Walton County, Florida. But I could use some saltwater myself. I hope they stream some of the good acts, but they still haven't announced anything other than they now have the OTT application for Roku and plan to stream 20+ festivals this year with > 350 hours of music.
Today I'd normally be heading east towards Gulf Shores. I'm not FOMOing too much because the rest of the year has turned out well festival forcast wise. ne215 and I got Life Is Beautiful and Osheaga on the books for travel. Also got Float Fest, ACL, Waterloo and possibly Utopiafest, along with Day for night all set up for late 2019.
I think if I didn't have Coachella booked and ready to go next year I'd have a little more fomo. I got Gball, a day of Lolla, Riot Fest, and local shows mixed in, but none of those scratch that itch w the vaca/fest combo like Hangout did. But knowing I'll have a vacation house w/ a private pool/hot tub and be able to shuttle to and from the fest each day in sunny Cali while it's still shitty here in Chicago, makes missing Hangout even easier.

Zero festivals formally planned for me, kinda why the FOMO is hitting hard today.
We were also throwing around Coachella 2019 as its in the wife's birth month and usually falls near her actual birthday to try and pull something together. Heard up and down reviews about it tho and I really don't want to shuttle in and out.
