San Fran is also the most expensive city in the nation.
If you're going to this jump in a hotel NOW. Avg price for that weekend looks to be about $275/night. With ticket, hotel, airfare from NY this fest would cost me close to $1600...I could see the entire Top 10 at headlining shows for less than that, crazy!
ya i dont get it. its probably the best top 10 of the year, and beyond that it isnt perfect but still very solid with Solange, Future Islands, Shoolboy Q, Kaytranada, Royal Blood, Thundercat, ect.
I think people are shitting on it on Reddit because acts with guitars don't interest a good portion of the under-30 crowd. Metallica is already touring the US doing stadiums, The Who haven't been good live in 20 years, new Gorillaz tracks don't have commercial appeal it seems, Lorde's new singles have bombed so far, Queens doesn't appeal to a younger crowd...this lineup is great but unless your top line has Future, Major Lazer, Migos, Drake, etc. the younger crowd hates on it.

I was shocked how ridiculous the hotel prices were. My gf booked some room at a shit hostel that was still over 100 a night.

Gorrilaz and lorde's new songs are both doing well...

Green Light peaked at #19 on the Hot 100, when it debuted 5 weeks ago, it's now at #59...not exactly tearing the charts up for a lead single...None of the new Gorillaz songs are receiving US airplay as of today and aren't on any charts.
Not saying charts matter, but just an idea of how the songs are doing commercially.

Fair enough. I guess my main point was saying that this lineup doesn't appeal to the younger crowd is kinda bs. I know this is Anecdotal but most people I've seen on social media comment on the lineup have all liked it (I'm 19 for reference).

This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
When I did OSL in 2010 i stayed in a hotel in South SF by the airport that was nice and only like 90$ a day. It was like a 30 min drive and parking in the neighborhood south of the park is free and easy enough to come across

Costs of living have raised drastically in San Francisco since 2010.

True, but i've stayed in and around the city something like 5-6 times between then and 2015 and i dont think prices for hotels have jumped much

I think this matters for Lorde, a lot, but I don't think Gorillaz are going for chart toppers on this release.

FWIW on the Spotify charts "Green Light" is #36 on on the global chart and not even in the top 50 on the U.S. one.
This talk of young people all having shitty taste in music is getting old.
Thank u. Im in High School and this and FYF are two of my favorite lineups this year. But most of the kids I'm surrounded by are worried about when the new Lil' Yachty song drops

Tbh you can like Lil Yatchy and like most of the artists on FYF. I'm not a fan of his music in particular, but a lot of mainstream rap music is very weird and alternative. A Young Thug show can get just as rowdy as any punk concert with guitars.

I mean you're kind of proving their point by being the exception that proves the rule.
It is mind numbing that some people can't separate "This is a bad festival" from "This is a festival that doesn't suit my tastes" or even worse, "I've seen all these bands already."

Yea i see what I did there now haha. There's plenty of younger kids like me that have interesting music tastes. More than people would think.

True. I can dig some Lil Yachty. Just that a lot of people in high school are very narrow minded about music and fail to broaden their horizons.
