Tbh you can like Lil Yatchy and like most of the artists on FYF. I'm not a fan of his music in particular, but a lot of mainstream rap music is very weird and alternative. A Young Thug show can get just as rowdy as any punk concert with guitars.
True. I can dig some Lil Yachty. Just that a lot of people in high school are very narrow minded about music and fail to broaden their horizons.
Well...it's High School. I'm not proud of who I was or what I listened to in High School.
Yeah, this is on the edge of actually being worth the absurd ticket price and associated travel costs, but damn that top 10 is about as good as I'd expect from a mainstream festival in the States. If you had told me last year that one festival would manage to book Fleet Foxes, QOTSA, ATCQ and Gorillaz, I would not have put Outside Lands in my first ten guesses.
More disappointed than anything knowing that Bonnaroo lineups could look like this if Live Nation didn't ruin shit.
I mean you're kind of proving their point by being the exception that proves the rule.
Yea i see what I did there now haha. There's plenty of younger kids like me that have interesting music tastes. More than people would think.
Whenever I say young people have bad taste in music it is not something I've grown into believing. Obviously it isn't a universal truth because I've known individuals who also managed to forge their own identity before leaving high school but even when I was 14-18 it was clear to me that the people around me didn't know shit about dick when it came to music and I would have to find it on my own, otherwise I'd never hear anything outside the top 40. Beck, Radiohead, early wilco, flaming lips, Sigur ros, Bjork, beta band, spoon, talking heads, velvet underground - couldn't get anybody to listen to any of this stuff when I was growing up. God forbid music have any conflict or nuance.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Word. Conversely, I came up around a bunch of musicians (including some metal heads who went by headbashers back then - pre headbanger term). in the late 70's early 80's, and we had a bad ass progressive radio station in town. So it was the best of the best musically at the time - ELP, King Crimson, Gabriel era Genesis, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Sabbath, whatever. Just not mainstream radio stuff. Most people in high school were listening to Kinks (Paranoia Mean Destroyer era), The Cars, Devo and other more new wave type stuff. Then the dawn of MTV hit, and I went to college. I could tolerate a limited amount of the second invasion (Echo and the Bunnymen and maybe Aztec Camera) but it had to be better than the mainstream shit. We had outgrown radio by 14 or 15.
I saw him 3 weeks ago. The crowd was into it, but it was weak af. His rap skills are terrible, he's out of tune, and just seems to mostly be having a good time up there. I didn't hate it, but if we're dealing with young rap today, give me some motherfucking Vince Staples all day long over shit like Yachty.

that makes sense. I like his personality way more than his musical chops. Even mumble rap I enjoy Young Thug n Migos more.

Looking to sell my GA weekend pass. Was gonna put on reddit but they don't allow sale posts, not too sure where else to ask around so figure why not here. Looking for $290 if you or anyone you know would be interested (can paypal, and change shipping address I'm pretty sure)
Schedule is out. Looking for recommends for stuff to check out before 3 PM.
Not too many conflicts for me. The Who vs. Solange vs. Above & Beyond is easily the worst. May have to miss 10-15 minutes from a bunch of sets due to overlaps, but otherwise not too bad.

Fri: Porches are alright
Sat: John Moreland, San Fermin, Joseph, and Temples
Sun: Lee Fields, Marco Benevento, and K.Flay are all pretty solid

Friday - Hundred Waters is one of my favorite bands of this era and not like anything else anyone is doing. Early in the afternoon isn't the greatest time slot for them as they are really more of an evening in a theater kind of show. But still, I hope they play Day for Night.
Saturday - That Motion Potion plays Metallica set might be cool
Sunday - I'd probably have Marco Benevento as at least a pass by on my schedule if I was going.
Edit to say I missed Henry Rollins at 2:45 on Friday. I'm assuming that will be spoken word. But Henry rules so it's probably worth stopping in on.

I also forgot to check that stage. Jeff Goldblum on Sat. should be either really interesting or really boring, but I'd probably be there.
