Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Round 1 includes Ween (headlining Saturday, June 3) and Emmylou Harris (headlining Sunday, June 4) and they are joined at NMF17 by Rodriguez, Son Volt, Parquet Courts, Twin Peaks, Sara Watkins, Big Thief, Honeyhoney, Margaret Glaspy, Sallie Ford, Mothers, Ron Gallo, Marisa Anderson, Hellnaw, Weedghost, and Aaron Michael Butler with the Tied for 5th Percussion Group.
I'm a bit surprised Rodriguez isn't considered a headliner, but I'm really looking forward to see who the other headliners are!

80% in for this. Still waiting to see who they ad, but I like it so far.
Sallie Ford is cool. I liked the Sound Outside stuff but what she's doing now is even better with the new band - it just rocks. Parquet Courts fit with that same vibe. Twin Peaks are good, too. I was diggin' Margaret Glaspy at Roo last year. Ween never disappoint. You could definitely do worse than Rodriguez in the geezer slot.
I had a hard time looking up Hellnaw, and kept finding some awful Georgia redneck rap bullshit, but they look watchable as a Porch Stage act. Weird hyped up bass and drums. Son Volt - not my thing, but legit, not cheezey. Never heard of Ron Gallo til now, but he looks interesting.
I might have to roll solo (we'll see) but that's no biggie with just a 3 hour drive plus the great setting and laid back atmosphere. NMF is no Bonnaroo, but it's priced right and is a way easier overall experience that should amount to guaranteed fun.
Being from Cinci, I've always wanted to try this festival. I really like this year's lineup. Obviously, not a lot of huge names but some good acts that are in my wheelhouse. Given the disaster that this year's Bunbury lineup is, I'm thinking this might be the year to check it out.
I'm assuming that some additional names are coming. Does anyone know when they will drop the rest of the lineup?

I wholeheartedly recommend going. The festival is run very well and it's in a beautiful location.
Last year the second round dropped about a month (Jan 11) after the initial announcement (Dec 11) and the third round came 2 months after that (Mar 4). Based on that, I'd say you can probably expect the next wave (including the Thursday and Friday headliners) in the next couple weeks and the final big announcement in March. In previous years the headliners that have been added include The Flaming Lips, Gary Clark Jr., and Courtney Barnett.
Edit: Also, currently there are only 17 bands announced and there will be over 60 bands at the festival. I really don't understand why they take so long to reveal the bulk of the names, but yeah there's definitely a lot of larger acts left to reveal.

I also highly recommend going. Last year was the first year in a while I didn't go. As Bikemail mentioned above, it is a scenic location, with one of the stages surrounded by an old log-cabin settlement. Heck, some of the acoustic performances are in one of the cabins. Some also are on another adjoining cabin's front porch. It's very laid back, both in the festival grounds itself and the campground. If you're a beer fan, Athens' Jackie O's also serves the festival, so the beer offerings are always topnotch and relatively affordable, compared to other fests. One other thing, if you like non-fest things like disc golf or bicycling, they have a great disc golf course that goes up into the surrounding hills right next to the fest. A killer bike path also runs right by the fest, alongside the Hocking River. I've had friends take off early in the day and bike down to Athens and back. While I didn't go last year due to Nelsonville's proximity to Bonnaroo, I'm pretty committed to heading back down there this year. There's enough for me to like on this initial release, and I have faith they'll add some other interesting acts, based on past history.

Jackie - O's is one of the best kept beer secrets in the entire US. As as OU grad, I can attest that almost every beer they make is top-notch.

I'm an OU guy, too. And my wife and I still go down there twice a year and grab a hotel just to spend part of the day/night at Jackie O's. Some of the offerings they have on tap-only are stupendous!
I am a beer guy and love Jackie - O's, so that is icing on the cake. Any recommendations on lodging? I don't mind camping but am also planning on doing Bonnaroo, so I'm not sure that I want to haul out the gear 2 weekends in a row.

I've only camped - and since it's in Nelsonville I don't think there are many nearby lodging/hotel options, at least super close by. The website does note they are renting out some dorm rooms (The fest is held on the campus of Hocking College). If you do camp, you do have access to the college's showers and indoor pool.
Surprised we haven't gotten a second wave of announcements yet, but I found out Mirah will be playing Saturday and Sunday based on her site's tour dates. The alt-country musician Robert Ellis will be playing Thursday and Friday based on the tour dates here.
Someone suggested on one of their Facebook posts that a band accidentally revealed they were playing. They didn't say the band's name but their hints indicated it's Valley Queen, which may also mean that Laura Marling may be on the lineup as well since Valley Queen's opening up for Laura's May tour.
Yeah, I've been checking their site because it seems late. I just looked at old mail, and last year they sent emails about the 3rd round of artist announcements on March 3rd.
I like what they have so far, although it would be nice to add a bigger name or two, or someone really in my wheelhouse. No speculation here though, as I have no idea who is touring when. And I'll probably end up going to get my festival fix regardless, whether or not I can drag anyone along, what with Bonnaroo being such a crap fest this year.

Yeah, given how lousy all the other nearby festivals have turned out this year, this is looking like the only one I'll make it to. That's why I've been getting antsy about finding out the rest of the lineup and resorting to google-fu to find out about Mirah and Robert Ellis. FWIW, I messaged them on Facebook about if Round 2 will be out this month and they indicated that they believe it will. Historically Round 2 has included the remaining headliners, so we should get most of the bigger names in the next week and a half.

I'm interested in this. Trying to decide whether or not to do Eaux Claires, but this is way cheaper and a closer drive. Could be happening if the lineup announcement turns out well. Ween is a great get.
I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on this one but have been waiting on the second lineup drop to confirm it one way or the other. If Laura Marling made the lineup, that would make it a no-brainer for me.

Not sure where you folks all hail from exactly, but if you're in or near NE Ohio then LaureLive might be worth a look. Its a small festival in just its second year, with no camping, no late night, and just two days (same Sat and Sun as Roo, in case you aren't going), but quite a few bands on the lineup. Dawes, the Head and the Heart, Needtobreathe, Young the Giant, Michael Franti.
I may go Saturday to see Gary Clark, Jr and Saint Paul & the Broken Bones, though I admit I don't know most of the other acts. Single day tickets are like $60 I think. It looks pretty family friendly (no smoking on the premises - its at a prestigious girls' school), if that's something that matters to you either way. It'll probably be a last minute call for us - if the weather looks good that week, we'll gladly pay that much to see two acts we like, enjoy the sun, and see what the other bands are like. I didn't go last year but I can at say the neighborhood is green and beautiful in June, at least.
Thanks for the info, but Ween alone would top that fest for me. Maybe start a new thread for a different fest.
Sorry, I didn't mean that LaureLive was better, or that it had to be an either/or proposition. I'm most likely going to Nelsonville because I love the location, the setup, and the lineup is decent so far. I'm not starting another thread for that - it's small, probably little interest here overall, so the thread would be buried in no time. Just giving a heads up to Ohio peeps that might not be going to Bonnaroo this year, since LL may be convenient and we don't have a ton of great other nearby festival options.
Round 2 is here, Conor Oberst and Cloud Nothings are the heavy hitters in this one. Not sure if either one is a headliner, but they could be our Friday and Thursday headliners.EDIT: Per the announcement email Conor Oberst is the Thursday headliner, which means we've still got the Friday headliner left to be revealed. We're up to 35 acts, which is a little more than half of the final lineup. Seems like there are still plenty of bigger names left to reveal, so hopefully the next round comes in early-to-mid March.
Conor Oberst Cloud Nothings Frazey Ford Michael Hurley Tyler Childers Aldous Harding Mirah Aaron Lee Tasjan Valley Queen The Easy Leaves Sarah Shook & The Disarmers Wesley Bright & The Honeytones Adam Remnant Swarming Branch Counterfeit Madison Doc Robinson Caitlin Kraus Blue Moth
I think Conor fits with some of the Thursday headliners they've had in the past. I really like that add.
Somehow I've never really listened to Conor Oberst/Bright Eyes. Where would you recommend starting with his music?
I haven't listened to his newest acoustic one very much but I was a pretty big fan for a while.
First should probably be Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. 10 great songs, some of his strongest writing and he still performs a lot from this album.
Then I'd probably go with Conor Oberst - Upside Down Mountain for a look at his more current sound.
and lastly, Bright Eyes - Lifted (Or the Story is in the Soil...) has some more of his greatest work on it although it is more raw. Songs like Make War, False Advertising and Lover I Don't Have to Love are really strong.
Not from those albums but other good songs include: Four Winds, Haligh Haligh A Lie Haligh, and Easy, Lucky, Free.

Dale pretty much named the albums I would have suggested. I started getting into Bright Eyes - and Conor's lyrics - with Lifted. I still love it to this day. I also really dig Cassadaga, the album with Four Winds, and his self titled solo album. One of the songs on that album, Souled Out!!! is a personal favorite.

Haven't listened to Cloud Nothings before yesterday after the lineup announcement and I'm really digging them. Hellnaw is a band this will most likely get a night time set on the Porch Stage and I highly recommend catching them. If you've never been to this fest before I can't recommend it enough. Such a solid atmosphere.

Cloud Nothings are great live too. As you can probably tell from the records, their drummer is a beast and really shines in concert. I'll have to check out Hellnaw. NMF has a great track record of booking small acts that end up being fantastic, which is really something that sets them apart from most fests in my opinion.
For anyone in the Athens/Nelsonville area this might be a cool thing to participate in this Sunday. They're filming the announcement video for the next round of artists, which hopefully means it'll be revealed soon. It also depends on what the video involves, but I wonder if any names will leak from this?
A buddy of mine was there, was part of the filming and said it was pretty cool. No news on artists, but the final lineup announcement is being released on Tuesday.
Daily lineups and tickets are available here. We're up to 46 artists now, which means there's still at least 14 more to go to get to the full lineup.
Thursday: Conor Oberst, Parquet Courts, Big Thief, Michael Hurley, Ron Gallo, and many more
Friday: They Might Be Giants, Rodriguez, Cloud Nothings, Sara Watkins, Frazey Ford, Margaret Glaspy, Michael Hurley, Sallie Ford, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Mr. Elevator, Ron Gallo, and many more
Saturday: Ween, Jenny Lewis, Twin Peaks, Frazey Ford, Margaret Glaspy, Michael Hurley, Sallie Ford, Aldous Harding, The Cactus Blossoms, Mirah, The Easy Leaves, Jay Som, Marisa Anderson, Wesley Bright & The Honeytones, and many more
Sunday: Emmylou Harris, Son Volt, Shannon & The Clams, Michael Hurley, Aldous Harding, Mirah, The Easy Leaves, Marisa Anderson, Wesley Bright & The Honeytones, and many more
I'm really loving these adds, I've been wanting to see TMBG for a long time now and I've heard a lot of great things about Jenny Lewis. Also, everyone should check out Jay Som, she's a young new artist but she's already released some excellent music and has a great new album streaming at NPR now.
Personally, I love the Jenny Lewis addition. I've seen her live twice, once at Forecastle and once at Coachella, and she was great both times. There's honestly a good bit for me to see each day, even Thursday. Parquet Courts into Conor should be awesome.
