Agreed. Trust me, I am thrilled to learn about new music via acts on a festival lineup. It's awesome listening to bands I've never heard of in the months leading up to a festival. But before I'm going to do homework, a festival lineup has to give me something I already like. Why should I trust the acts in row 11 and below are any good when I am already familiar with and don't care for the acts in lines 1-10?
This is a close cousin of:
"I don't like [band X]"
"But have you seen them live????"
"No, I don't waste time seeing live performances of music I don't like"
Not shitting on U2. Just the EDM. And RHCP who now suck live. And the glaring lack of depth in the lineup save for a few good acts like XX, Glass Animals, Umphreys, etc.
The "new" acts in the middle of the lineup are kinda lame tho.
That really is my most hated comeback to statements about not liking a lineup.

This is a very reasonable outlook IMO.
Mostly I'm just mad that FLUME and MAJOR LAZER are the top EDM gets.

No it's more like someone telling you to listen to Justin Bieber, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and 3 other bands; and then you saying "well, I really don't like those first theee artists you mentioned, so I'm not going to waste my time listening to albums released by those other 3 bands.

If you live in a city with a halfway decent music scene almost none of these acts are particularly exciting
My city (Madison, WI) has a population of 250,000 and almost all of these acts have come through town recently and/or come here repeatedly. I've skipped Cage the Elephant, Cold War Kids, The Orwells, and Big Gigantic more times than I've seen them. I've seen Umphrey's do multi night stands several times. Car Seat Headrest and Royal Blood were just here and they're up-and-coming acts that touring constantly.
I live in Columbus, another big college town, and we get most touring acts as well. And yes, while I've also seen some of the acts I listed (I've seen Umphrey's 15-plus time, for example) I enjoy being able to go to a camping fest and see old favorites mixed with some new acts over a long weekend alongside my friends, many of whom fly into Tennessee from Cali and NY and other far off locales.
Honestly how in the hell can't we manager to get a successful festival up and running here? I mean like a legit real one (not FMMF or PromoWest fest). We should be a hot bed for like an alt-rock/jam band festival you'd think.

Pretty reasonable.
i would go to bonnaroo this year if bieber, bsb and britney were playing.

you pretty much just reworded Postjack's original comment.

No, I was talking about a different annoying response to not liking something music-related.
I've been to Roo the last 6 years. This lineup is atrocious and they're crazy if they think I'll pay more to get less. And yes, I know these acts. They're just fucking terrible.

I think the PromoWest people may be trying to do that, and that's why they've taken a year off. And I know Legend Valley, which is 30-40 mins away, is always trying to put something together. I'm kind of hoping this is the year they dip into the non-jam, non-country pool. They've got the needed space and a nice permanent stage.

you won't, but they know a lot of others will. they're winning the numbers game here, not the minority that is inforoo

Promowest sucks at curating festivals. They took all the life out of Bunbury festival IMO

You have a point. there are certainly quite a bit of jam band and country festivals in Ohio to pretty much accommodate the entire midwest. Something fresh would be a welcomed change.

Are they though? I know part of it can be explained by rising prices, but there absolutely is declining attendance, which I expect to continue. U2 and RHCP doesn't even make sense with the rest of their lineup. You're telling me that people who like shit like Marshmello are going to be influenced to buy a ticket when they see U2 at the #1 position?
I really don't get the lack of legacy acts this year. U2 will sell a crapton of day parker passes. It seems like it would have made sense to throw 2-3 other classic artists on Friday to entice them even more. Duran Duran>Lorde>U2 on What would be a good book for day parkers. Toss in a late afternoon Brian Wilson set and a LN with someone like ELO, Pet Shop Boys, or Cheap Trick and that day pass looks a lot more attractive to U2 fans on the fence. Even a newer buzz Americana act like Sturgill or Kacey Musgraves would have probably helped. They're still going to sell because Bonnaroo day passes aren't that much more expensive than good seats for a U2 concert, but it seems odd they wouldn't try to lure harder with some relatively cheap bookings.
I saw Brian Wilson recently, and tbh, you don't really need that in your life unless you're a huge fan. It's like seeing Bob Dylan nowadays.

I went to Bunbury with my GF last year instead of Bonnaroo and I really liked it. There are def minor tweaks they could do but overall we had a really good time. I enjoyed it as a 2nd tier festival.
Maybe if we're lucky and the Roo gods still love us Jamie xx will play a surprise set or something, it would be far and away the best edm show of the entire weekend

They could possibly turn it around this year with the increased focus towards edm and pop. But I'm wondering if a lot of people that do those fests will like the whole tenenesee in June aspect, and how the increased police pressure in and around the festival will affect layer years. People that go this year may decide they were better off at ultra or EDC.
