I really don't get the lack of legacy acts this year. U2 will sell a crapton of day parker passes. It seems like it would have made sense to throw 2-3 other classic artists on Friday to entice them even more. Duran Duran>Lorde>U2 on What would be a good book for day parkers. Toss in a late afternoon Brian Wilson set and a LN with someone like ELO, Pet Shop Boys, or Cheap Trick and that day pass looks a lot more attractive to U2 fans on the fence. Even a newer buzz Americana act like Sturgill or Kacey Musgraves would have probably helped. They're still going to sell because Bonnaroo day passes aren't that much more expensive than good seats for a U2 concert, but it seems odd they wouldn't try to lure harder with some relatively cheap bookings.
I saw Brian Wilson recently, and tbh, you don't really need that in your life unless you're a huge fan. It's like seeing Bob Dylan nowadays.
Possibly not. But if you're a CPA in Nashville trying to decide if you want to spring for a day/shuttle pass for U2, what's going to sway you; Brian Wilson or Marshmello? I would prefer Mark Knopfler or Santana, but Wilson seemed like a good combo of safe, instant recognition, and probably not too expensive.
Not a lot in the top 3 or 4 lines that I'm really into. I like a handful of artists and am sure I'd have a great time on Sunday with Bluegrass tent but really not sure it's worth the money/time for a trip from NY.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I don't have a lot of hate for the top few lines, but nothing in there that screams "I need to get to Bonnaroo to see this!". And some of the ones near the top that I'd be most interested in, I've already seen. I'm sure there's plenty of solid acts on the deep undercard, but nothing jumps out to me as an exciting get like, say, Blood Orange was last year. I'll listen to some of the undercard acts, but unless a bunch of them really hit me, I can't justify the time off work + cost + 13-hour drive each way from NY. People have been speculating that Bonnaroo was becoming a regional fest rather than a national one....looking more and more like that's accurate.
I sincerely hope everyone who ends up going has a great time.
Agreed. Trust me, I am thrilled to learn about new music via acts on a festival lineup. It's awesome listening to bands I've never heard of in the months leading up to a festival. But before I'm going to do homework, a festival lineup has to give me something I already like. Why should I trust the acts in row 11 and below are any good when I am already familiar with and don't care for the acts in lines 1-10?
This is a very reasonable outlook IMO.
Mostly I'm just mad that FLUME and MAJOR LAZER are the top EDM gets.
I was just looking at the electronic that's only on SATURDAY of coachella and it is so incredibly fucking superior to this trash on the Roo lineup that I couldn't even laugh, just shake my head.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Every single day of Coachella this year has a better electronic line-up than the total Roo EDM lineup.
Rufus broke up decades ago. Are the original members even still alive?
Different Rufus
That's Rüfüs
and I hate this band for getting my hopes up that people are discussing a great classic funk band instead of generic electro pop every single time they're brought up
Maybe if we're lucky and the Roo gods still love us Jamie xx will play a surprise set or something, it would be far and away the best edm show of the entire weekend

I don't know about the rest of this rabble, but I ain't got time to look up the umlaut key in alt-code.
Promowest sucks at curating festivals. They took all the life out of Bunbury festival IMO
I went to Bunbury with my GF last year instead of Bonnaroo and I really liked it. There are def minor tweaks they could do but overall we had a really good time. I enjoyed it as a 2nd tier festival.
I've gone to every Bunbury, it's always a good time. But it used to have 7 stages, after parties in the city, and a ton of local bands, food vendors, breweries, and sponsors. The lineups left a lot to be desired and it wasn't selling well, but Promowest came in and stripped it of everything that made it a unique experience so McDonalds and Coors could be the main sponsors
"No, I don't waste time seeing live performances of music I don't like"
No it's more like someone telling you to listen to Justin Bieber, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and 3 other bands; and then you saying "well, I really don't like those first theee artists you mentioned, so I'm not going to waste my time listening to albums released by those other 3 bands.
Pretty reasonable.
Leave the Backstreet Boys out of this or there will be hell to pay...
what are people thinking the SuperJam will be? Them literally screwing over any type of major psychedelic act makes really wish for the psychedelic SuperJam but once again the Roo gods don't love us enough for that to happen

Baring some additions it's gonna have to be another electronic based superjam.

I have heard of that complaint before. It hadn't really been on my radar up until the past few years. That is unfortunate though because those are the type of things that I would love to see more of.

only way this is even tolerable is if Jamie xx hosts

I mean honestly. I don't see anything that jumps out for a potential superjam theme. My guess is one of the EDM acts and Chance will put it together. Noname and Francis and The Lights could be involved

Magnificent Coloring Superjam curated by Chance The Rapper feat. The Social Experiment, BadBadNotGood, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, NoName, and D.R.A.M
AC tweeted about every festival lineup that came out except bonnaroo. I think he's ashamed of this garbage but is also happy to count his Live Nation money

Even with a lineup this electronic heavy, it still could've been decent. Even if just a few of the shit acts were replaced with decent electronic acts, it'd look a hell of a lot better.
- Marshmello -> Pretty Lights - Yellow Claw -> Bonobo - Boregore -> Nicolas Jaar - Getter -> Kaytranada - Snails -> the Avalanches - Ookay -> Rüfüs du Sol

Wasn't Kamasi Washington a late addition last year?
