I also find it funny how people were annoyed at him pointing the mic at the crowd too much. As someone who was almost on the rail I felt guilty anytime I couldn't finish the lyrics. Like I was the one letting him down.
Hahahahaha yeah I was/am the same way. I think that pointing the mic at the crowd works more for smaller crowds, and that's why it translated well to those who were in the pit/closer. But when you have a huge festival field that you're performing to, people in the back may struggle to get into it when you're doing that.
Kendrick had the same issue when he first started playing fests. By the time he played Roo in 2015, though, he was pretty good at rapping all of his lines (if I remember correctly). But I think he might've just started doing that more in general. Idk.
Yeah pointing the mic to the crowd is just a normal part of hip hop shows. But I agree that Chance overdid it especially to the audience he was playing to. But there's definitely a reason I waited six hours to be in the pit for Chance.

Pointing the mic at the crowd, when done too frequently, annoys me. Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode was really bad about this when I saw him. There were songs where he didn't sing a single chorus. I got tired of singing it for him, I paid like $90 for those tickets.

Ooh did anyone else catch The Head & The Heart? I left Rezz early to hear the end of their set and oh boy, I was *not* ready for that! I listened to "Rivers and Roads" a ton when my grandma passed away at the beginning of the year, and when they played that I had a full on cryfest, it was truly a spiritual moment. I was wearing my flamingo necklace which always reminds me of her, we had this inside joke about lawn flamingos, and I was clutching that so hard singing at the top of my lungs. That was probably my favorite moment from Bonnaroo this year, I will never forget that.
Tons of full shows uploaded to YouTube. Missed the first 5 minutes of PtM at the fest, so missing them open with For Whom The Bell Tolls is something i'll have to live with. What a show. Still can't figure out if that or U2 was better.

Really? I am a super casual U2 listener and thought they were borin'! And I've seen them before and they were great! Never had seen PtM and they killed their "LN" set.

If Dave wants you to sing the chorus of Question of Time while he does his signature mic spin move, then dammit, you better do it and enjoy ever moment. Yeah, but I understand. Sometimes it's a bit annoying. Especially if the crowd doesn't know the song. It used to bug me with the Flaming Lips singalongs.

That is the EXACT song I think of when I find myself complaining about this. He didn't sing the chorus ONE TIME. I tell you what though it was a killer show, definitely a great memory. I might complain but I'd see them again in a heartbeat given the opportunity.
Got front row rail for this one, my inflatable purple unicorn jammed hard - the lead singer was loving every minute and it was a great hot set as a result.

I had a feeling it was that song. I can't wait to see them on this tour.

Late to the party but FWIW, I saw DM a few weeks ago and Dave did this way less than in the past.
