I didn't see the killers, but my friends (who all went into the set lukewarm about them and really only stayed because there was nothing better to do) said their set really surprised them by how fun it was at Lolla. I'm not endorsing them, but Roo could do a lot worse than them for a number three.

I saw them at Lolla when they were supporting Hot Fuss and had a great time. Granted, that was a long time ago. But it would be fun to see them with Duran Duran preheadlining...

I caught about half an hour of The Killers at Lolla before leaving for an aftershow and was bored to tears. Don't wish them much ill will apart from the festival scene, but that spot could be taken by so, so many better and more deserving bands. I'd be highly disappointed to see them on the lineup (though those dates don't bode well)

In February 1977, Rumours by Fleetwood Mac was born after a lengthy labor of love. This year, we are celebrating the groundbreaking album in a way like no other. You are cordially invited to attend Fleetmac Wood's Rumours Rave in celebration of the seminal record, with remixes, edits, and originals from Rumours and beyond, all thanks to DJs Roxanne Roll and Smooth Sailing. Fleetmac Wood is only throwing this birthday party in several cities this year, including Los Angeles, London, San Francisco, and now Washington. We're thrilled to have them join us at the club!
p.s. Fans are encouraged to come to the party wearing celebratory sparkles, flowy garments, lace, top hats, and all things Fleetwood Mac chic. See you Thursday!
The Killers are a custom made Roo headline act at this point. Big schmaltzy singalongs that scratch the same itch that Billy Joel or Lionel Ritchie does. Obviously the Killers are even worse than those other two but thematically the show is the same. They peddle nostalgia.

Hold on.
I strongly object to the implication that Lionel Richie is bad. Diss Billy Joel all you want but Richie's set was a joy.
Definitely not throwing shade at Lionel and I wasn't even saying the Killers are useless - just that they are essentially a lesser legacy act at this point.

When I went off to college, I thought everyone was going to be into cool music and I'd find out about lots of new, weird stuff. This ended up only being true of people who worked with me at the radio station.
A couple dudes liked Radiohead, but they thought Radiohead was some obscure band that only a select few knew about.
It seemed like everyone else's favorite band was the Killers. It sucked. Basics my age love them for some reason.

And this was a college radio station?
At my radio station you are kicked off the DJ crew if your taste isn't obscure enough.

I mean that the only people who were into anything interesting were at Rice Radio.
Rice Radio was/maybe still is one of the most obscurely-formatted radio stations in the country. It was a place like you're describing, where you were allowed to play maybe one song of Animal Collective-level popularity an hour. The rest was Genetic Memory, Navrang, Jazz, Blues, Metal, etc.
I agree that the Killers are a very basic band. I went into their show last year liking their music but expecting them to be bad live but I was surprised at how well they held up a huge headlining performance. Their show did get a little slow for a couple of songs at one point during which I went over to Deadmau5's set. The Killers crowd had at least 3-4 times as many people in it than deadmau5's.
Is there really any need to compare RHCP and the killers? Hopefully Killers would be a #3 and RHCP was 2nd both times they were at Roo. Would make more sense to compare Killers and the Weeknd.

I like The Weeknd more than the Killers, but I wasn't especially blown away by his show. I enjoyed Lorde more. Maybe the Killers would pleasantly surprise me.
Seriously, who cares where they were billed? RHCP and Killers are comparable in that they are rock bands who were featured on Target end caps and are now lesser versions of their former selves.
