I think Eminem should just stick to more rock inspired/Beastie Boys type instrumentals. Berzerk and Untouchable are the best songs he’s released since Relapse.
I remember listening to the first Eminem album and being totally confused by the 'skits' every few tracks. I still don't get it
So you’ve literally never listened to another rap album?
I think that may have been my first rap album... I'll have to think about it.
But yeah, I don't get the concept of skit tracks. After my ~5th listen I'm ready to pull those out and just listen to the music. Seems like something that should just be added to the front/back end of long-form music videos.
Skit tracks are awful when I'm listening to my library from the genre tag on random.
Kendrick does skit tracks though, so it's ubiquitous in hip-hop, from classic to modern.
edit- This new Eminem album isn't a classic, but it's about what I expect out of a sober Eminem. I was expecting a dumpster fire reading these comments.
MMLP will always hold a spot for me, the writing was crazy, he pushed so many boundaries with songs like Kill You and Kim. I think The Way I Am showcases his writing and lyricism best from that era too. Such a classic.
Agreed. MMLP is an uncomfortable masterpiece (by which I mean it's undeniably brilliant but I'm almost never in the mood to listen to it)
I prefer to pretend he retired around 2005. Let's focus on N.E.R.D and BROCKHAMPTON if we must discuss rap releases out this Friday

I finally listened to a BROCKHAMPTON song today, the new one, Boogie, and liked it a lot. At least the music is interesting and fun, is the rest of it similar?
Saw the one tomorrow is their last album too? Guessing they're all going solo?

Can you relax on the sober thing...like him on opiates was a good thing?

"last album"
If you like Boogie the other two albums should be up your alley. Or at least a handful of songs off each.

If you enjoyed Boogie I'd say the others are worth checking out (II much moreso than I).
As noted, the quality from song to song is wildly variant. I guess that's to be expected with a dozen different creative voices influencing it though
Brockhampton is my favorite music discovery this year. Their songs can be hit or miss, but I really like most of their material. I also really like what they rap about, even when (or especially when) Kevin Abstract is openly bragging about giving head. It's great. As a 20 year old hip hop fan Brockhampton is perfect for me.
Brockhampton is fucking great. If you like their previous albums and wanna see them live, I suggest snagging a ticket before Friday. I expect Sat III to be very, very good.
don't even think i'll listen to the new one. keeping the good image of Em in my head. agreed he should be done, that being said i'd still see him at roo to hear the classics
Should he perform at ‘Roo again you should be prepared to not hear “the classics,” unless it’s in bits and pieces. His show in ‘11 I was excited to catch. But he did not deliver. Most of his stuff from The Eminem Show and earlier was all done in medley forms.

I liked Boogie too and that was also my first one of theirs I checked out.
Issue is, there's a better version of Boogie, and it's Danny Brown's Ain't It Funny.

My bad, I didn't mean it like that. It's just more mature and about family and the struggles of fatherhood, and not about eating mushrooms and drinking vodka.
