Metallica would be fine by me. When you suggest that on reddit you get people who complain about the Metallica fans last time they played.
I caught them GA at Lincoln Financial this year. Fucking SWEET show. They were in my top two bands I needed to see and ball out for. Metallica and QOTSA were my major GA purchases this year.
Can you relax on the sober thing...like him on opiates was a good thing?
Thanks for saying this. An Eminem who is alive and being a father to his daughter and doing funny interviews and making bland music is better than him being dead.

I refuse to believe that anyone on the Bonnaroo subreddit was at Bonnaroo 2008.
But yeah, Metallica is a fantastic show and would be a great returning headliner.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Agreed.
And no worries, ushmel. We all (hopefully) grow out of unhealthy behaviors, especially the ones that could kill us. I do like that his music matured with those life changes, even if the hits are farer and fewer between. Unpopular opinion, but I like his last two albums a lot.
Following up U2 | RHCP | Weeknd | Chance with Eminem | Killers | 21 Pilots just doesn't feel right... Like at all. Those look like 2 different festivals.

everyone was worried about the bad fans that would ruin the vibes before metallica headlined in '08 and ya know what - they were all quacking wrong. metallica kicked ass and there was no noticable difference in the crowd. kirk hammet even came out and jammed with my morning jacket at their late night set and the crowd went nuts.
the people on reddit are mostly idiots and children.

Welcome to Live Nation Festival Takeover 2018.
Okay.. Playing advocate of the devil here, but how is it solely LN's fault when they can organize line ups like Mad Cool or Rock Werchter have? The NA-festival landscape changed a lot during the past years and that's because (young) people like EDM/Hiphop more than your average rock/metal band. If you want to be a major in the US, you got to program what the majority of the people like. This board, like many boards across the internet are not the target-audience anymore (just go the Now Playing topic and you'll see what I mean or am trying to say..) or the disgust some here have for certain mainstream acts..

TL;DR You can't just blame everything on LN imo
Here's my issue with this line of reasoning. They already became "a major in the US" by programming what people on this board envision for this festival. Obviously, they are never going to please everybody 100% of the time but their recent focus on acts with one album and EDM acts whilst programming less and charging more has actively alienated their base. You don't go from consistently hitting 70-80K per year and then drop to 45K because you're doing a good job.

Just to clarify, which particular part are you disagreeing with? That they were a major US festival? That you're not going to please everybody 100% of the time? That their focus shifted to acts with one album and EDM? That they decreased their programming? That they increased their prices? That they alienated their base? That their occupancy dropped from 70-80K to 45K?

Or are you just a fan of Oprah memes?
I'd love to blame Bonnaroo's problems on LiveNation, but I just don't see how that's the case.
AC Entertainment booked the 2015 lineup that was a fall off from the golden age.... and they booked the historically unpopular 2016 lineup. IMO LiveNation in no way correlates with the dropoff from the 2011-2014 era... it was happening already with AC Entertainment at the wheel in a more saturated market.
As for 2017's boost in electronic and younger-appealing acts: Of course Livenation is going to change the booking strategy after attendance fell apart in 2016.... they had to get the kids back and that's what they did.
Maybe someone else knows, but I'm pretty sure that ticket prices haven't changed materially since LiveNation took over (outside of the the camping pass that is free w/ 4 people). I believe the last real hike was for 2015, which was on sale far before LiveNation bought the festival.
