As I said on the Facebook, some people are gonna bitch about whoever we get that's not named Gruden regardless of any of their qualifications. I plan to punch these people in the mouth.
Dave Maynar, I may cut you if this happens. Stay away from my DC. I mean it.
Like Morris, you know it's only a matter of time, and I feel this might be his year to make the jump. I would welcome him for sure. Honestly, he's not a name I've heard thrown around that much locally.
idk he doesn't seem like a head coach to me. I doubt he's the first choice.

His drive to be head coach is definitely a big question about him. Some people just like to be coordinators, and he's getting paid well at Clemson. I would also be surprised if he's at the top of the list as well. He's got to be someone they're looking at at least.

I'm honestly unsure why so much of the fanbase is down on Mullen. Dude took State to a number one ranking, can identify and develop talent (tebow, Dak). Really just seems like he doesn't have the splashiness of a gruden or Kelly. But I think he's proven himself as a capable HC in the SEC, and with Tennessee facilities, money, and talent pool I think he'd have a higher celling than in starkville.
I don't think we can get Gary Patterson (my ideal candidate). Gruden doesn't seem like the answer and Kelly doesn't seem like a fit as far as boosters go and culture. I wish Scott frost had a few more seasons under his belt.

People can't look beyond him being 7-3 this year. If he was good enough to win the SEC, he would have done so already. Blah blah blah. It's this wonderful paradox where they think Tennessee is the best job on earth at the same time they think coaches should be able to win national championships every year at tiny schools. I am sure you heard the "Butch ain't no good because he lost to Tennessee when he coached Cincinnati." criticism out of the gate when Jones was hired. For the record, he's not the sexiest hire, but I'd be perfectly happy with Mullen.
I read an article the other day that Patterson had a shitty interview when they ended up hiring Kiffin. From the way Patterson tells it, it was painfully obvious they had already made their decision before he interviewed, and he was told they didn't think he could handle the big stage. New administration or not. That still has to burn.
Gruden is too expensive for not guaranteed results, and I really doubt he'd do it anyway. It drives me crazy people act like it's an easy slam dunk hire.
Kelly also still has a show cause. Tennessee has historically ran from such candidates as fast as they could. Beyond that, I agree that he feels like a bad fit for the program.
Frost is probably my favorite somewhat realistic hire. He's no guarantee by a long shot, but he's good. As I have said before, some people will see he's a young Group of Five coach and write him off immediately as the next Jones/Dooley.

Is this how every fanbase is?
"Since Fullmer (sic), Jones was the best we have had. You can't blame the coaches for the lack of discipline that the team had after practice, the coaches aren't babysitters. If the players cared as much as they say they do, they would have performed better and kept their actions in line. Jones couldn't help all the injuries this year and did the best he could with what he has. The mentality of some of the team players is 'I'm a star so I can do anything' then act like they are in 3rd grad midget football when they hit the field. You will be missed Coach Jones." "As as a volunteer fan letting Jones go was a mistake..now we set back and look for another coach which will be hard to find and watch sec teams grow stronger like ky.I told my wife 2 years ago Tennessee will cut his throat and the idiots did .So now we sit and wait to see what as a coach is available lol not going to be many. But let's see who is to blame for the next 5 to 6 years because that's realty. .The team sucks they will for the next several years and everyone wanted to put it all on one man...so wrong ky will inch there way into the top 25 in the next few seasons while all the IDIOTS still blame it all on the ex coach and future coach ..The team sucks and it will for years to come ..facts" "Good for you, Butch Jones; take the money and enjoy yourself. I DON't think you should have been fired, but, it has happened. Go do like some of these other former TN coaches: get a job and have a great time at a new school. You started out growing a team 'brick by brick'; now, it's become 'THROWNING bricks' at you....hang in there: blessings for the future!!!" "I like Butch Jones, .. I think one major problem is the team needs to get there head out of the ax, clouds.. They aren't as disciplined as they should be.. Face it we have had some great coaches!!!! We need more serious discipline in the team....it's not I, it's we in the team..." "It's not Coach Jones fault! He tried to teach the boys to play they just didn't. So he loses his job. How about take the boys Scholarships way. If they are there on a scholarship to play and they don't take the scholarship way. Same thing like having a job." "No matter who they hire, if the team won’t play, results will be the same....YOU’RE FIRED! No way I’d take the job if I were a coach. Tennessee is getting famous for firing" "When you go thru 5 coaches in 10 years , it's not a coaching problem it is a athletic director and administration problem." "Don’t matter who they hire. When they have a bad streak they will fire him. So I would not even look UTs way for a job. Run Run Run!!!!"
Re: the buyout "He deserves every penny for what he and his family has been put through theses last 2 months with all the sorry UT FANS and the MEDIA" "That's right! I just can't believe how cruel and disrespectful the Vols fans have been to Coach Butch Jones! It's a sad day!"
Nope. Most of the time It's everyone complaining about the coaches. We're 9-1, 37-3 the last 3 years, won a championship, in the top 4 again but if you listen to radio and read twitter our coaches don't know what they're doing.
Late September through October is brutal every year for Tennessee.
2017 was at Florida, UMass, Georgia, South Carolina, at Alabama, at Kentucky (1-5) 2016 was Florida, at Georgia, at A&M, Alabama, South Carolina (2-3) 2015 was at Florida, Arkansas, Georgia, at Alabama, Kentucky (2-3) 2014 had at Oklahoma, at Georgia, Florida, UTC, at Ole Miss, Alabama (1-5) 2013 was at Oregon, at Florida, South Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, at Alabama (2-4)

Ohio State under Urban is beyond head scratching. Watch Oklahoma, Iowa, and Michigan State and they don't even look like the same team. They've gotten embarassed almost once a year but then come out and look like a force against 90% of the schedule (yes most of that is a cake walk). But Michigan St looked like a JV team yesterday trying to stop OSU's rushing attack. Where the hell was that against Oklahoma's terrible defense and Iowa's very very average defense. It's mind-boggling and I ttotally understand why people hate OSU. We've gotten the crazy benefit of the doubt multiple years and still do shit like last week.
This week our opponent is getting healthy. We had 9 injured players on defense by the end of the FSU game.
How you feeling about the Clemson/Miami title game coming up?
I think Clemson will win and Miami will still get into the playoff. Have a hard time seeing Wisconsin keeping up in Big10 title game.
1) Alabama vs 4) Miami 2) Clemson vs 3) Oklahoma
Edit: Two loss OSU winning the Big10 wouldn't pass one loss Miami after dropping the ACC title game, would they?
I think we can beat them. But like I said we need to get healthy. Also sounds crazy to say when you're avg. 35 points a game, our offense needs to play better.

Saw an article today regarding a Tennessee commit who said he's staying. He said that Currie had contacted him and his family personally to give them an idea of what's going on with the hiring process and timeline. He stated he was told the hire would be soon. I think it would be hilarious if Tennessee announces first after catching so much shit for waiting so long to fire Jones.

Dude r/CFB has become intolerable with all the shiz they give us. I mean, maybe I feel like we deserve it bc I'm a TN fan used to learned helplessness, but it's annoying.
I wanna have a splash like John gruden but production like Mullen. And if we're really offering JG 10mil, I think the answer is tuck our tails, apologize/grovel, and do whatever it takes for gary Patterson. Then get Mullen. I wish frost had another year or two as HC.
But Ive been off work this week and following grumors all day. Im getting into the crazy.

Grumors are the worst thing about football. Even worse than sang_xcx.

I dunno. Grumors have become normalized. We had Fulmer forever, and Gruden has been mentioned in every coaching search since. It's just hit a quacking fever pitch this year. Honestly I remember rooting for a Gruden hire to replace Fulmer (-when it was least likely). Now, nine years later, Gruden seems way more possible but way less desirable. He's every vol fan's fantasy prom queen/king.

I take objection to "every vol fan's". He's like 10th on my list. I think the normalization of it is what is bothering me. Currie could announce tomorrow that Gruden has been signed to make him the highest paid coach in college football with a buyout that would cripple the athletic department financially, and a large portion of the fan base wouldn't bat an eye. Not only that, they'd celebrate it as a good business move by Currie. It bugs the shit out of me when I don't feel Gruden has the greatest likelihood of long term success.
