I wonder if we'll get a headliner announcement today like we did last year. I guess they might shy away from doing it if they don't have someone as headline worthy as Aphex Twin.
Still not **** on the web of any certainty. Joyrider [tm] on Coachella Boards offered this about 4:00am, "NIN is 100% playing but I guess that's obvious now.
I rarely read Coachella boards, so I don't know who is who.
On Reddit - A poster name TribeWiDaVibe says the visual artist lineup is insane. He says he's involved in the fest and joined Reddit to answer some questions and give updates. He doesn't say whether the artists predicted earlier in that thread were on the lineup or not - just that they were some good ideas (and in my opinion, some really bad ones too). Partially that list was NIN, Beck, St. Vincent, Brand New, Gary Numan (which is already happening at a club that weekend), Ariel Pink (not sure why again) DFA 1979, Four Tet, Hundred Waters, Charli XCX, Bicep, etc.).

Charli XCX makes sense. They had Banks and Chelsea Wolfe last year, I can see them doing Charli and Zola or something. Charli was booked for a FPSF a while ago and canceled her set, but I'm pretty sure she's been to Houston since then.
I'd probably catch their set but NIN doesn't excite me at all.
I saw NIN the last time they came around to Boston, I believe in 2014, and they blew me away. I haven't been a fan of theirs since Middle school (over 20 years ago), had very low expectations and they definitely surprised me. I've been to hundreds of concerts and I think they had top 3 best light shows i've ever seen.

Sounds like our experiences are similar. NIN was one of the first "real" bands I loved, I bought The Downward Spiral in 6th grade and it cemented my identity as an industrial kid (tangent: which expressed itself as me becoming a techno guy at age 36. music is weird).
Anywho I caught them in 2008 and 2013 (both at Voodoo fest) and they are two of my favorite shows of all time. It doesn't hurt to be a rabid fan of the music, but regardless of fandom they put on a hell of a show.
Of all the songs, my most vivid memory of that 2008 show was "The Great Destroyer". That song was CRAZY live.
Another bit about NIN, the new shit he's been releasing is fresh as hell. I loved "Hesitation Marks", but it did sound a bit old-schooly, but the new stuff sounds modern while still being NIN, if that makes sense.
I'd probably catch their set but NIN doesn't excite me at all.
Yeah that's exactly how I feel. Like I would see them and I know it would be cool but I wouldn't lose my shit or anything over them headlining. Not like I would with say, My Bloody Valentine.

Is this Joyrider dude credible?
I don't know who is who. I rarely ever read those boards because I don't really care about Coachella except what they put on television. But he goes back to 2012.
As for the NiN, I'm in the complete opposite camp as r. They would be automatic Top 1 for me regardless of what weird/rare/etc. names they otherwise have on the list. I have only seen them one time live, and it was spectacular. So having one of the top acts being something I actually like and want to see vs. something I'll tolerate because it's there makes a difference. I was okay with Aphex Twin, and I tolerated Travis Scott. I quickly left Kaskade barely making it to the 3rd song. Bjork Digital was blah (though the VR was insane). I walked past Odesza on the way to the Yellow Stage for whatever was on at that time since I don't care about them much at all. So in my world, having acts at the top I really want to see vs. having to work my way down to #7 (RTJ spot from last year on the interactive lineup) for something I really want to see (next after that was Buttholes at #9 and Squarepusher at #13).

I've seen them a few times and they put on a great show but I don't really have a strong urge to see them again. The songs I would be most excited to see them perform are ones I've already excperienced.

Yeah I totally get what you're saying but its usually the opposite for me. I mean don't get me wrong there is nothing like a headliner you want to see, but in my experience and I do mean in MY experience, that's something that just doesn't manage to happen a lot for me. Radiohead for Lolla 2016 and Bonnaroo 2012 excluded. For me its usually the mid tier to smaller acts that draw me to a festival as it was last year at DFN (Oneohtrix, Clams Casino, Arca, Tobacco, Squarepusher, Liars, Matmos, Tycho, S U R V I V E..) I could go on...

For sure. It depends on the festival for me. With Day For Night, I already know without knowing who is on the lineup that I probably haven't ever listened to 75-80% of the acts. I don't listen to that much electronica, techno or house with a few exceptions - and I prefer it live including with live instrumentation (e.g. Pretty Lights, Gramatik, GRiZ Live, etc.). Electronic Music is going to be a big part of what Day for Night does by design. When I gave a shit about Hangout Fest, the headliners were mostly meaningless to me. With Voodoo where it's a headliner-heavy festival, it does matter. Specifically for Nine Inch Nails, they didn't come anywhere close to me in 2017, so being able to see them again is a big plus (in my head, because I'm going regardless of whomever is on the lineup and whomever headlines). So having Nine Inch Nails over say Odesza is a giant win right off the bat. There are liable to be plenty of "interesting" acts on the lineup in the mid and undercard as it is. Fill up that top with shit I want to see, and I'm all that much more in.

I'll tell you what I definitely agree that I would rather see NIN than Odesza lol. Odesza is pretty and all but NIN would be more of an experience. And that's what this festival is all about.
I think it would be fantastic if they booked NIN instead of an Odesza type act. My concern is that NIN wil be the "good headliner" and they will still book shitty edm headliners to move tickets. Of course this speculation depends on them booking this year's lineup in a similar way to last year's.
I just need a damn lineup before my head explodes.

Haha yeah. But if NiN is the "good" headliner and they bring something crazy like they did with Aphex Twin last year, then it will be a plus plus. They have to sell tickets, and so we know there is going to be some "eh" shit on there either way.
As for cmack's quote, I don't have a ton of wants. If they were going to bring some jamtronica which wasn't on the bill last year except for the Futurelix set, those shows tend to be the most "light-centric" and would work best with what they do at D4N. However, the chances of a big mid-card act such as Disco Biscuits or Lotus or even STS9 are slim.
Top 1 undercard want for me will still be Hundred Waters. I need to see them again, and I'd take them at the Blue, Green or Red stage. They can do an extended 3 hour set for all I care with Nicole just scat singing or playing flute and I'm set.

I like Hundred Waters *so much* and feel like they don't get enough love around here.
"Blanket Me" live paralyzed me from how good she sounded on it. I mean goddamn girl
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Oh I know how you feel about them. You said Blanket Me brought you to tears in that temporary dispute with ken bone over who to see in that slot. I saw the set a little later that day on the stream, and my eyes were misting up. They can just play her singing Blanket Me on loop, and I'll go to that. I don't care. I only ever saw them at Voodoo in 2015. They were interrupted by Flow Tribe on the main stage which was way too loud for the quiet parts Hundred Waters did. Because as you know, for as loud as they can be, sometimes it's soft piano or flute or just space between bars that accentuates that part of a given piece. You are 100% right they don't get enough love for being such a completely new type of hybrid act that actually is that talented.
If we ever get universal healthcare and I can just quit working, I'd probably go to the festival they curate with Moses Sumney (Form Arcosanti) in that architectural space/urban lab north of Phoenix.
So this fest is Saturday and Sunday? What is the pre-party exactly? What was the start time and end time on say Saturday? After parties etc?
Also did they sell single day passes last year?
JUICY JAY went to the pre-party. It's all you can drink and there were a couple of special sets. They also gave you an advance look at some of the art installations and an opportunity to meet some of the curators. We didn't see the value in paying the extra money, and it's way more expensive including that Friday than just for the Saturday and Sunday. I want to say the festival started around *edit* 3:00 in the afternoon, and the indoor stage was still going on when we left each night (Saturday and Sunday) where Soulection was Saturday and Arca was Sunday. I think they initially were supposed to go later, but the schedule has them going until 2:00am on Saturday and 1:10 on Sunday. I want to say we left around 12:30-12:45 each night.
For reference: Red Stage is the main stage; Green Stage is the second main stage; Yellow Stage was a little small stage outside in the back of the compound next to RR Tracks; and the Blue stage was indoors on the ground floor/basement level of the old mail processing plant.

Yes, the actual fest is Sat and Sun, with Fri being the pre-party.
I didn't go to the preparty last year, but Phyre Fest or Rummy 500 might be able to give you a better idea on that. To me, it seemed way overpriced. I want to say it was close to the price of the fest ticket itself. You basically get to check out the venue with a limited number of people on Friday, plus a bunch of shows.

Yellow stage got no love the whole time I feel like. I'm kinda guilty of it too as I pretty much never left the Blue stage lol. I did manage to catch Anklepants there tho...weirdest shit I've ever seen in my life.
