I can certainly attest for many DJs who dumb it down for Americans. The sets I've heard at Movement Detroit and the sets I heard while living in Europe last year were easily distinguishable.

Any cases where this wasn't the case?
i feel like a lot of DJs dumbing it down for TomorrowWorld Belgium would make sense. I can't see Len Faki playing harder there than he would in LA/NY/Chi
I'm working my way from the top of the I don't really know shit, and I never knew how much I would have liked Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It's like Explosions in the Sky meets space-folk with some Fripp and Sonic Youth thrown in. Damn. Dreamy concert, Paris 2015. I don't do the kind of shit that adds to the intensity of a show like this, but at an art fest, I have an hour of my time to give to see them. Conversely, I'm not digging that much James Blake beyond the production work. It's just a bit too rooted in pop unless I'm missing something. About to watch the Disco Biscuits, but next time I have some free time, Jesus Lizard, Cardi B, Perfume Genius and Sky Ferreira will be my next acts to check out working down that lineup.
Todd, I appreciate the idealism. You are 100% right, but most people in their drives to understand and communicate tend to classify similarities. Yeah, that means it's most likely coming with a side of a little non-intentional prejudice. It would be a cool world to look past generalities all the time, but most of us are not there.
Really want to see: NIN*, Jamie XX*, GY!BE, Nina Kraviz, Priests (don't know them yet, based on GL's rec), of Montreal, GAS**
*those shows would both be must see's, but I think they're the only 2 artists on this lineup that I've seen before. I'll for sure be at NIN unless it conflicts with Thom or Justice.
**I don't know GAS, but seeing he has something to do with Kompact lets me know I'll need to be there.
That's just first glance impulse, I can't wait to dig into the lineup.
I'd love to see Kaytranada on Friday, but not sure if I can justify the price of Friday yet.
Edit: I just looked at the lineup and saw a dozen things I left off my list.

Figured you knew about them already. They are the best post-rock band def imo. Explosions is okay. Another great one to check out is Mono from Japan.
My tattooer is diehard post rock guy so I've gotten schooled over the years.
Godspeed has played Tips at least twice since the reunion like 5 years ago, def a good place to see them. Their projectionist is amazing. That guy is crouched down in the dark with like four projectors going, splicing all this footage together that def adds to the music rather than being super distracting/cringe inducting like U2 did on this tour.
Edit: I just looked at the lineup and saw a dozen things I left off my list.
I want to see it all.
Venetian Snares x Daniel Lanois feels like it was booked for you specifically.
Ya, that is one of the names that's top on my list to check out. Venetian Snares is a name I recognize, but never listened to for whatever reason. That video that got posted in this thread looked amazing.
It was late last night and I completely spaced that I did get to see GY!BE a few years ago. The 4 projectors that Sgt Blotter described sparked my memory. I watched the show from the balcony, right next to the projectionist.
So I've only seen 3 artists on this lineup before (NIN, Jamie XX, GY!BE), that's gotta be a record low for any festival I've attended!
Word Sarge. I am liking them. It's kind of weird because this is shaping up to be a festival where at least a good chunk of what I'm going to see is instrumental. Of course I'm fine with that. ------------------------- Rothric,
To your point about wanting to see it all, of the first 31 artists on the list (down to The Album Leaf), I'd want to see 21 and would see another 3 or 4 barring conflicts. And that's where the problem comes in. There will either be a ton of split sets or I'm going to end up missing half the acts I want to see which obviously is going to suck. Also, I'm trying to figure out who will be the Red Stage HL/subHL each day. I think St. Vincent into NiN would work, but St. Vincent would probably be on the Green Stage. Would they do Tyler > Solange or Tyler > Pretty Lights for the other night? It seemed Autechre would have been before or after PL on the main stage sort of like the Squarepusher set last year. But with them not currently on the list, I'm not really sure. Thom Yorke you would think that even though it's not a DJ set, it would probably be indoors. Maybe he's got enough draw and presence to headline on the Red stage on his day? Obviously Radiohead would have done that if they had the whole band.

Dude...that makes me sad. I get that artists have to cater to the majority of the crowd but still. For instance there was a huge HUGE difference in Clams Casino at Day for Night vs Clams Casino at BUKU. That man is a magnificent producer and when he just has to sit there mixing some lame ass trap music to make the crowd happy, it makes me sad.
NIN Solange Justice St. Vincent Tyler, the Creator James Blake Jamie xx Phantogram Laurie Anderson Perfume Genius Kimbra Forest Swords Jessy Lanza Jlin
Having said that, I don't mind seeing all above artists again.
What was the weather like for those at the fest previously? Everyone dancing around in hats and gloves?
There was a cold front that came in with a heavy rain in the middle of Aphex. So from like 3-10 pm it was like 60-70~ and then at 1030 it dropped to below 50 and raining Saturday, and then Sunday was 40-60 depending on the time of day with no rain. (i think that's how it all went down. i was in shorts and t the first day and then a full jacket the next)

Artists I've seen before on the lineup:
Nine Inch Nails St. Vincent Tyler, the Creator James Blake Pretty Lights Jamie XX
damn that's it, pretty strong. i probably will have seen G Jones by the time D4N comes around (voodoo).
You haven't ever seen Phantogram? That surprises me. I'm glad they made the lineup. Ken Bone and I were discussing them on the lineup a while back, and her fear was that they'd take up a high spot from someone else. Luckily they are on at 10 which ended up not killing off something higher up. I also remember seeing Princess Nokia on a stream and mentioning on that thread that she was ideal for Day for Night since they have been very progressive with gender bending as well as LGBTQ artists.
Seen (in person):
Nine Inch Nails
Thom Yorke
Justice
Tyler the Creator
Pretty Lights
Phantogram
Rezz
Laurie Anderson
Lil B
of Montreal (from outside)
Daniel Lanois
G Jones
Shabazz Palaces
(and Earl Sweatshirt but I'm not going Friday)
Random that the one festival I know the least amount of stuff on, I've seen more acts than a lot of people. That won't happen again!

Sunday wind chill was 20's and 30's. It was fucking cold.

Yeah, I hadn't seen such a transition like that from Sat to Sun until then.

Holy shit you've seen Hecker before? He is probably who I am most looking forward to. What should I expect?
