Must-sees: Solange, Justice, Jamie xx, Nina Kraviz, James Blake, Gas, Bjarki Would like to see: NIN, Thom Yorke, St. Vincent, Tyler, Phantogram, GYBE, Sky Ferreria, Venetian Snares x Daniel Lanois, Mount Kimbie, DJ Tennis, Tim Hecker, Jlin, Priests
It's crazy to me that a lineup I enjoy so much has so much I'm not too familiar with on first glance. Excited to dig deeper.
I don't get the Nina Kraviz hype, nearly every set I've heard from her she fucks up the mix numerous times. Loads better female DJs. Her only saving grace is she'll sometimes end sets with jungle/DnB.
I enjoy her for her willingness to experiment and play great acid, jungle, breaks, house, techno, etc. She messes up sometimes, but I prefer a few mistakes over someone who mixes in the same old junk.

Given that list, you'll probably dig Andy Stott, Forest Swords and Demdike Stare.
I enjoy some of Andy Stott's recorded work, but I could not get into his live set at III Points. I'll give the other two a listen soon.
Some straightforward beats @ 120 are what was missing last year. She might not be the "best", but she's definitely a suitable dance act and a nice alternative to Kaskade or whatever.
Agreed, speaking of Kaskade my girlfriend bought me tickets to his redux set in Columbus. He actually plays house and deep house there and its all in small clubs and is 21+ so that should be good. But yea big room Kaskade at DfN just seems weird.
Fair warning: I saw Kaskade's redux set twice. The first time, back in 2014, was good, but the second time in 2015 was painfully boring. Hopefully he's more lively when you see him.

Luckily it was a free ticket so I'm not expecting much. Plus house music in Columbus is hard to find, I'll take what I can get.

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Seriously? smh
Shanti Celeste, Rebekah, Black Madonna (who I don't like that much even), Volvox, Umfang, Octo Octa, Jayda G, Amelie Lens, Ellen Allien, Avalon Emerson, Helena Hauff, Magda, Cassy, Heidi, Lena Willikens, J Phlip. Need I continue? That's 17 just off the top of my head.

Edit: Aurora Halal is amazing too
I don't think that was actually his point lol.
A handful of my favorite dj's are females. Shit is just nit picking at this point.
And dude a lot ofpeople, especially people just getting into the genre just like Nina Kraviz cuz she's the go-to female DJ and the most famous female techno dj. It just baffles me cuz there is soooo many better ones. I was one of those people who thought she was crazy good when I first got into techno and then the more sets I listened to I was like wow I am blinded by the hype.

Why would you compare female DJs to each other in the first place? What difference does gender make when it comes to mixing the music. It just seems silly to say this female DJ is better than that female DJ when their gender isn't relevant to what they're doing.

Why do people claim x festival needs a female headliner if their gender isn't relevant to what they're doing in the first place?
Not once did I say that males are better dj's than women. I categorize DJ's into American vs European (I must be xenophoic) and Duos versus singles too (I'm Dyophobic). I had a tweet no more than 2 days ago about how much better all the female dj's dekmantel sets shat on the male ones. It's hilarious the virtue signaling that happens on here. If it helps I'm manspreading right now and mansplaining to my cockerspaniel about how dogs don't go to heaven not because they're dogs, but because they don't deserve it.
That was the other one I had in mind hahaha. She is so fucking boring though in my opinion. Her and Liebing are just boring as hell to me. Liebing's better in Collabs 3000 but alone it's so meh. I've also heard from people that he dumbs it down when he plays for Americans.

I can certainly attest for many DJs who dumb it down for Americans. The sets I've heard at Movement Detroit and the sets I heard while living in Europe last year were easily distinguishable.

I never thought you were sexist. It's just that sort of categorization is silly because your gender has nothing to do with how well you can mix or produce. I mean you wouldn't categorize DJs by race. Or by how tall or short you are. There's a lot of sexist attitudes in the music world, so when you make those sort of comparisons it's a bit questionable.

that pisses me off. Even more of a reason to go to Europe for that kind of music. Saddens me. But thats why underground > clubs in America because DJs can pretty much play whatever if its a underground promotion.

For a message board so obsessed with ranking and categorizing things, I am surprised there was such an outrage.
Also if I was some sort of bigot you'd see me calling Octo Octa a man. Dont think theres people who are misogynistic but are full supporters of the trans movement. Gender doesnt determine talent in the slightest. Volvox is a better techno DJ than anyone Ive seen other than Speedy J.
