i am really loving all these pretty lights fans losing their shit. probably spend a ton of time defending him as someone who 'doesnt just press play' and then he goes and doesn't and they can't hang.
I only caught 10-15 mins of Pretty Lights, but I very much enjoyed what I heard. I actually had to do a double take when I first stepped out to the Red.
Esteban, I don't know how we have never run into each other by this point! I kept eyes peeled for a Pelican's jersey, but alas.
I was hoping they'd have some of the 3D stickers for sale at merch, but they didn't have any. Ended up picking up a hoodie.

I'll say this about the Pretty Lights set. I did enjoy it, and was pleased to see him do something different. But I think if you are Pretty Lights, and you want to do this, you do it under a different name. For example, deadmau5 has Testpilot when he wants to play techno. Imagine if Beyonce at Coachella this year was like "we gonna do this whole set acapella y'all". I mean that would be cool and everything, but it wouldn't really be the Beyonce show you'd spent months anticipating.
So my feelings are mixed. I do think artists should challenge their fanbase, but at the same time I think there is something to be said for brand consistency.

I hope we get some 2018 blind presale info soon.
Yeah man. You look like my boy Mike, so I figured it would be easy enough to spot you and come say what's up. I'm just going to make it a point to find everyone early on Saturday next year so I'll know who I'm looking for at specific shows. spent and cmack know all my kids and some of their friends so I guess it's easy enough to spot 1 out of 4 or 5 than just one random person. I think part of it also is being in the dark of the Blue stage for so many shows and the difficulty of navigating the center of the crowd for that. I'll be back in 2018, and I know you will be too if at all possible. And with all the new shit I got exposed to this year that doesn't really come around the south that much, I'll be looking forward to hearing some new shit next year as well. Bring on that fucking presale!

I too was disappointed to not meet you. Fuzzy told me you had on a Brees jersey Sunday and I was hawking for that but no luck. Maybe next time good sir.

he's already got enough side labels though with the band, solo, dj, Pretty Lights Solo Analog Set is a weird thing to try to name and bill. About a qtr of the way in I started laughing and asked my friend if he was going to do the whole set like that, and then said he was going to be this years Bjork for doing the opposite of what she did. Honestly, I was probably more or as excited for him to do a classic solo set than anyone on the board, especially with them becoming increasingly rarer, but seeing people say "that wasn't the place to do it" or "experiment on your own time" is bs and I'm kind of glad people like that got what came to them.
*I saw a Mitski acoustic set expecting the full band, it did bum me out a little, but I got over it quickly.

I'm amazed I was able to find you, mack, and wu at the blue. I could barely find my own friends.

Anyone else see the couple fucking like rabbits during Jamie XX?
We were walking out to leave and as we got just past that DNA tent, almost to the VIP section, out the corner of my eye I see a dude leaning against one of those columns, with a girl in front of him bent completely over, and he was pounding her with such force and speed that I can't believe she didnt go flying across the room.
My first thought was absolute shock, then to make sure that all my friends saw it, then more shock, then before I could even think to snap a photo or video they stopped and started sucking each others faces. A few random people who also saw it came up to me and were like "Did I really just see that or am I hallucinating?".
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

but that's an impressive amount of confidence.
weirdest thing I saw was an older couple (guy looked like he could have been a Bob Weir look alike, she was probably in her 40s) grinding their molly with two Heinekens, dumping it in their palms, and taking fun dip sized licks before the PL set. no word on how they enjoyed the set though.

It's also funny that they chose the most lit up area of the first floor because of all those lights on the saran wrap around the VIP area. There were PLENTY of areas of the 1st floor that were pitch dark and they could have easily gotten away with it privately.

What an outstanding festival! Think it overtook prime Moogfest/Mountain Oasis for best city one for me. Justice was a relentless onslaught. I saw them five years ago but they upped their set to a different level with the insane rig set-up. I honestly think that they took over the mantle for best electronic dance band after that performance. Godspeed I've seen three other times but they were excellent as always even with a truncated set. Tim Hecker didn't have his most enjoyable set (six time before) but he modeled it to use the building to its fullest. Almost every artist on the yellow stage was good (that set-up was just great). The art installations were fantastic and all the people there were pretty cool. The sound was great for almost every show save Thom Yorke. I'll definitely be back again as long as the artists are good. Scratches the itch for the Asheville festivals going away.

It is almost as if there is a word for people like that...

So for everyone who hasn't been yet, here's what's out there so far from your friends on Inforoo:
sanjuro - What an outstanding festival
setlistvulture - Yesterday was one of my all time favorite festival days ever (Saturday)
wufinancial - Day for Night is tearing me apart like Lisa from The Room
mrmagoo - Festival is so awesome
Rothric - Amazing fest, as expected
Phyre Fest - on Justice - I got to experience it dead center in front of the stage and it was a religious experience.
shabby - Thank you again for the thread info and for coming to the wonderful city of Houston to join us for this amazing weekend (opened an account to post Justice video)
Jimma Dogmattus - Both days were fucking stellar
Idioteque90 - Wow. What a weekend...Tonight (Sunday) blew me away.
cmack - I'm not ready to leave or this fest to end.
beebee - You guys weren't exaggerating about how great this festival is. Two days wasn't enough. I enjoyed every show...
Redman's Meth - This festival fucking ruled. One of the coolest experiences I've ever had.
Dave Maynar - I was doing okay until Hambone's snap I got last night. The jealousy/sadness hit overdrive then (<-- that's just on snapchat)
Rummy (responding to Dave) - ...I'm not gonna lie, first inclination was crying face emoji
Jaz Mocean (responding to Dave and Rummy) - Favorite snap I've gotten in a bit
EAP - Festival is the ta-tats...Pretty flawless weekend...I didn't have a bad experience all weekend...I'm 100% buying blind presale.
postjack - So much excellence this weekend...
me - All 8 of us who went had a ball and plan to be back in 2018.
Remember, you can spend all year bitching about corporate lineups and generic festivals all across America with cheesy EDM acts and tired mumble rap. Or you can nut the fuck up and see why even though most of us are out-of-towners - we are or will be repeat visitors to this.
I've never been to a fest that everyone I was with didn't love. Except Bonnaroo.
Of course. But bang for the buck level on this is extremely high. It's completely satisfying in most every sensory way. Also you see who is getting credited. Mostly it's not Inforooguy9531 or some shit

Nah, it was one of the many fests I wanted to go to and just couldn't afford to it. It's definitely on the radar for next year. The only thing that might hold me back is the weather, but it was cold as hell for Moog and MOEMS too. It's rained both years right? That would suck.

One thing about the Gulf in December is if a cold front hasn't recently come through, it's kind of damp/fog season until May or so because the air and water temperatures are fairly close, and on non-windy nights, the fog just settles in. Both years it rained on Saturday night, but they were completely different.
2016 - Was nice and warm all day Saturday (probably mid-to-upper 70's) and then a front came through and dropped the temperatures. Sunday was super cold and in the low 40's and windy. Dressing in layers made it easily tolerable, and I f'n hate the cold.
2017 - Was cool all day Saturday (mid-to-upper 50's) and then a front came through and rained off and on between 8-10pm. Because Pacific air rather than Canadian or Artic air was behind this, Sunday warmed up into the upper 60's and was partly sunny.
You never really know what you're going to get down this way on a given December day. The averages in Houston are mid-60's on a mid-December day, so that's probably what you can reasonably expect. But remember, half the stages and the majority of the art exhibits are indoors, and it's warm inside of the building.
Here's some clips of random shit that's already been posted to YouTube. Hopefully some of the crazier shit like Snares v. Lanois and Tim Hecker will get posted at some point.
Thom Yorke (playing synth, guitars, etc. in this clip)

I know it sounds stupid but minus them getting booted early, I would not have had NIN set any other way. Much like the Aphex set looked(I wasn't there), the harder it poured the better it got, almost like they were piping in rain as another special affect. It felt like the end of the world and no one gave a fuck. It was glorious. Plus his set at Woodstock 94 in the rain, covered in mud has always been the first place I would hit up if I had a time machine.
Top 5 sets 1. Justice 2. Nine Inch Nails 3. Solange 4. Perfume Genius 5. En Vogue Honorable mention: BeeBee explaining the plots to the movies Rough Night and Girls Trip too me. Would have made the list but much like Nine Inch Nails I cut that set short
1. wufinancial stand-up comedy 2. Mount Kimbie 3. Tim Hecker - I went to this show half expecting to not enjoy it at all but it blew my mind. Still not really sure what to make of it but it was weirdly beautiful. 4. James Blake 5. Jamie xx 6. Thm 7. of Montreal - The Past Is A Grotesque Animal was the best song of the weekend. 8. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Like Maddog's girlfriend (Pablo?), I also found out I like this band. 9. Bjarki 10. Justice 11. Perfume Genius
other cool stuff: NIN, Pussy Riot, Ryoji Ikeda (this shit was insane), Lil B (POSITIVITY!!), Marcus Marr, DJ Tennis, Nina Kraviz, pretty lights.
Cardi B was my only real disappointing set of the whole weekend. Kinda crazy how different all our top shows were.
