Major Lazer would be that show for me. Just zero chance I go anywhere near that set.
ML gets a lot of shit, but lets be real, they've got a significant number of better songs than Jon Bellion. Also, that guy looks like he might love himself more than diplo.
Believe me I won't be anywhere near either. I just figure Major Lazer's crowd size/demo combined with their awful "music" stands out more to me.
To me really it's Thursday and Sunday. I miss shit like 2012 or any of the last 2 Waka years where you walk in with a solid 16 hours of scheduling ahead and need to pace until 5/6am.

the one major lazer headlined?
Ben Harper was #1 I think that year, but either that one or 2014. I didn't go to Major Lazer obviously though I had seen them a couple of times before. STS9 was opposing and Joe Russo. Major Lazer wasn't even an afterthought. But we would always be out and about by 1/1:30 in the day and not really come back until 3/4/5/6 depending on who the late night Satellite Stage people were.
That year scheduled for me was:
Thursday: Andy Frasco > Moon Taxi > Gladkill > Dopapod > Slightly Stoopid > Conspirator > Umphrey's > Floozies > Gigantic Underground Conspiracy > Minnesota > Govinda. That was a 3pm to 6am day
Saturday: Dirty Heads > Prob Cause > Galactic > The Roots > Ben Harper > STS9 > Savoy (4pm - 4am)
Sunday: Mouth > Particle > Greenhouse Lounge > Ozomatli > (scheduled Janover & reSUNator but something else conflicted) > Portugal. The Man > Lotus > Eoto > Thievery Corporation > Goldfish (this wsa about 2:30 to 3am)
Saturday Bonnaroo 2012 was one of those days in particular. I had Bad Brains > Flogging Molly > Puscifer > The Roots (missed Dispatch but had just seen them) > RHCP > Spectrum Road > Skrillex > GZA
I'll probably end up seeing Major Lazer and enjoying them lol
You might try the Ultra 2017 set if you want to see what they're doing today. It's dreadful in my opinion. Like I was bitching about back in the Hangout thread, it's every bad cliche' about EDM rolled into one. The only thing missing is Marshmello. It's a giant hype show far worse than even what Flosstradamus became before they broke up, and at least they were playing hip hop and trap. This is a non-stop brutal assault on your ear drums of:

Confetti, fog machines, tshirt cannons, all that shit. Big old party of stupidity IMHO. I still like Jillionaire, but whatever they might have become from their 2011(ish) debut is a giant mass of stupidity that appeals to the bros, least experienced and young'uns.

So, they were there right? I watched a little bit of the live stream but wasn't paying attention to it. I just now started to think about how odd it was.

I was fd up and only had it on for a bit. But whatever they did be it cannons tosses or combination, tshirts were chunked into the crowd. Dilplo had some loose ones and I think some dancers came out and threw/shot/catapulted more into the crowd. It was a giant production, so that part is big.
Not that many people seem to be doing this, but here's my (tentative) gameplan:
Thurs: Morgan Miller, Sam Morrill, Hari Hondabou -> Welles -> Hippo Campus -> July Talk -> GoldFish/The Orwells -> The Lemon Twigs -> Turkuaz -> Kevin Abstract
Fri: Brunch -> (try for) U Talkin' U2 To Me -> Klangstof (Pit) -> Khruangbin -> Kevin Morby -> Car Seat Headrest -> James Vincent McMorrow -> Remain in Light -> The XX/Pit line for U2 OR Gallant/Glass Animals -> U2 -> Portugal -> Big Gigantic
Sat: Rock the earth w/ River Whyless -> The Front Bottoms (Pit) -> RKS -> Improv Shakespeare Company -> Future Islands/Pit line for Chance -> Chance (Pit) -> Cage -> RHCP -> SJ
Sun: (try to wake up and try for) Ingrid Goes West -> River Whyless -> Noname -> Aaron Lee Tasjan -> Hannibal Buress -> Milky Chance/Pit line for Lorde -> Lorde (pit) -> Jacob Collier/Bluegrass Sitch -> The Weeknd

Thursday Walden > James Hersey > Two Feet > Mondo Cozmo and The Lemon Twigs or, more likely, nap > Turkuaz > Kevin Abstract Comments: I would spend most of Thursday wondering why I drove all the way to Bonnaroo to hang out at the Who Stage to kick off 2017's music. The lack of decent artists to see on The Other Stage really becomes noticeable on Thursday. Are any of these guys really going to break out like a Tove Lo or Glass Animals? Turkuaz feels like a good old-school Bonnaroo band, but they shouldn't be the only highlight.
Friday U Talkin' U2 To Me? (well, me and literally everyone else) > Klangstof > Barclay Crenshaw > Car Seat Headrest > D.R.A.M. > Tove Lo > The xx > Glass Animals/Preservation Hall Jazz Band > U2 > Claude VonStroke > Big Gigantic Comment: I have zero complaints about Friday. Seeing Klangstof early and then the run from The xx into late night has all the hallmarks of a great festival day. This doesn't even account for artists who folks seem to like around here, like Khruangbin and Kevin Morby, who I could wander into seeing.
Saturday start late > Rainbow Kitten Surprise/Alekesam > Tegan & Sara > Michael Kiwanuka > Malcolm London > Chance the Rapper > Louis the Child > sleep through the Chilis > Superjam > walk through Marshmello, because, I have to know, right? Comment: Saturday is awful and immediately makes it not worth going. I love Coloring Book; I love Chance. But at Bonnaroo, no one artist alone is worth four days. You have to have a decent midcard because there's no worse feeling than being bored at your campsite, like I was Sunday last year. The Pres Hall Superjam announcement works for me, but still. (It's also been hard to trust the Superjam lately.)
Sunday start even later, again, bored, feeling like I'm wasting my time at Roo > Umphrey's McGee > Flatbush Zombies > Lorde > BADBADNOTGOOD (and maybe some Bluegrass Situation Superjam)> The Weeknd Comment: After the weakest Thursday and weakest Saturday, we're left with the weakest Sunday. The run to close out Bonnaroo looks stronger than it is--I'm less excited about Lorde and The Weeknd than I would have been a few years ago.
In sum, one good day does not make a four-day camping festival. I have zero faith now that they'll book an interesting midcard in coming years, but that really is the difference maker. I hate being so negative about a festival that I've loved so much, but here we are.

This kind of emphasizes the odd trend the past two years of Roo getting Friday right and kind of shitting the bed with the rest.
That said, I know I'll still have a great time at what will probably be my last Roo. I'd also add that I see a good deal of potential in several Thursday artists. Mondo Cozmo, Kevin Abstract, Lemon Twigs, and I think even Hippo Campus could become significantly bigger over the next couple of years. What this year is missing is an artist who wasn't a huge deal when they were booked, but who blows up by the time the fest rolls around (e.g., Tove Lo, Børns).

Huge issue. Just listened to Mondo Cozmo hold on to you for the first time. Sounds really nice. Looked on setlist fm, plays a cover of bittersweet symphony. This is annoying because it overlaps with lemon twigs... wtf. I think I need to stay with my good spot with the twigs

Yeah I've been getting pretty into Mondo Cozmo too. Similar dilemma. I'm starting to lean toward not spending all of Thursay at That, though. It's also a bummer that Ten Fe overlaps with the end of Lemon Twigs.

Mondo Como is better live then the Lemon Twigs IMO. Lemon Twigs fits my schedule better with my bad leg.

Ahhhh why did y'all have to bring this up? I was having a similar dilemma but opted to ignore my draw towards Mondo Cozmo to make my life easier.

Last time I saw Lemon Twigs they were pretty lame. Not a whole lot of energy
I had seen them like six months earlier (before they put out their new album) and it was great sloppy garage rock. It feels like they're smoothing out the rough edges in their music to be more accessible

So I don't want to be negative but here it goes anyways. I can't believe how much of this lineup doesn't interest me at all. It's like I really shouldn't be going this year, but I get to go for free and it's hard to pass that opportunity up. I could also really use a Bonnaroo vacation. But I'm having a hard time filling up my schedule. I noticed that I had artists on my schedule that I hadn't even listened to, they were just there because people recommended them. So I finally decided to listen to some of them and I found most of them boring. I started exploring other artists I had in my downtime and nothing stuck out. I started to question if it was just me. Am I just not in the right mood? Have I become too much of a music snob? Everything was just straight up boring and vanilla. I'm sure I'll still have a great time, but there's just so many gaps in my days.
Thursday has nothing for me until The Orwells, after that I'll check out The Other Stage with Innanet James, then The Lemon Twigs, silent disco, and Kevin Abstract.
Friday would be so much less of a bummer if Car Seat Headrest and Francis and the Lights didn't directly conflict. But Khuragbin might be cool. Kevin Morby will be great but I have to leave early for a good spot at Car Seat Headrest. Jay Som > The xx > and U2 will be a great run. I really don't get the hype behind Portugal. the Man or Glass Animals. I know people are saying Friday is stacked but it's like if you don't care about either of those artists it immediately becomes not so stacked. I'm probably going to do Claude Vonstroke and Big Gigantic because that's a guaranteed fun time.
Saturday is actually a good day for me. There's not much I want to see, but one of my favorite bands and one of my favorite rappers are performing and I'll be up close for both (The Front Bottoms and Chance). Red Hot Chili Peppers will be a fun time. Then I'm going to get weird at Shpongle so I look forward to that
Sunday would be the best day for me if it wasn't scheduled so poorly. In fact, Sunday's schedule is probably my worst case scenario. Noname, Hannibal, and Skepta will be awesome. But I'm seriously bummed I'll have to miss some of Flatbush Zombies. Then I'll have to leave Lorde early to be in the fun part of the crowd at Travis Scott. Then I'll probably enjoy The Weeknd. Looking back at this whole schedule I can't help but feel underwhelmed. I'm still looking forward to being at Bonnaroo but it's not because of the lineup.
