Saw PTM a few weeks ago, their new stuff has a Fitz and the Tantrums vibe to it. They also still play Dayman in their set which is fun. Should be a good late night show I think, especially if you don't want to do EDM that night.
Should I do Claude Vonstroke or Portugal. the Man? I like Portugal, but not as much as everyone else seems to like them. I think they're good, but I'm not seeing what all the hype is about. Should I check them out and potentially be blown away? Or should I see Claude Vonstroke and have a guaranteed weird time. I don't feel strongly about either. Should I just go watch the Princess Bride instead?
If you like fun dance music you'll immediately have fun at Vonstroke. Similar to you I've never caught the PtM hype so I'd be at Vonstroke.
Vonstroke just seems like guaranteed fun. Plus I do really enjoy that sort of dance music. Like I said before, I do enjoy Portugal. the Man but I'm not a huge fan. I just don't know if I'd be as blown away as other people that are bigger fans.
Not bad for me but that is largely due to the weakness in the overall lineup. In previous years, some of the worst conflicts were in the bands just below the headliners. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of those bands this year and am looking forward to seeing some of the newer bands at the bottom of the poster. My big conflict (like others) is Mike K vs FI but I saw FI last fall, so I will go to Mike K this year. Also, I agree with others on that the 1:30 set duration for U2....sucks, given that U2 is about the only justification for this lineup.
I love how everyone holds up 2014 as an example of the good years now
If you go back to older threads, 2014 was received pretty well on this board. Kanye was the only thing people complained about and that was mostly on Facebook.

That lineup was way better than most of the "good ole days" lineups of 06-12. I really think the only lineups you could make an argument for being better are 08, 09, and 13.
Thu. Orwells (really odd not seeing a show till that late)> Mt Joy> Mondo Cozmo> Lemon Twigs (the previous are 3 bands that I haven't really listened to)> Natasha Legero & Moshe Kasher (not because it's great comedy, there's nothing else AT 11 PM ON ROO THUR. WTF HAPPENED GUYS?> finally make it to Trapped In The Closet because there's nothing else.
Fri. Twin Limb> Klangstof> Khruangbin> Kevin Morby> Car Seat Headrest> Cold War Kids> this is is a pretty fine day up till this point then you have Kaleo vs. James Vincent McMorrow, which in past years would have been 3 hr. earlier and we'd have tons of great stuff coming after> Remain In Light> The XX> U2> PTM finally gets a late night and they are the only option for fans of rock music, cool.
Sat. Lucy Dacus> Lukas Nelson only because he's Willie's son> Deap Vally> ? I never had gaps in the middle of the day like this, I guess a break would be nice?> Tegan & Sara> Future Islands> The Head & The Heart ok this is where I start feeling the same way that I did about Sat. I mean they're ok, I might have wanted to see them 3 hr. earlier in the day> Warpaint during practically a headliner> ? I mean 75 min. to kill before a headliner may be normal, but I'd really like to do something else since it's just RHCP> Superjam but it's probably not a real superjam anymore
Sun. River Whyless> Baskery> Margo Price vs. Aaron Lee Tasjan makes no sense> Royal Blood> Mandolin Orange> Greensky Bluegrass I mean it's not abnormal for me to just stay in the bluegrass tent, but none of these are my favorites and usually there's something in the other tents that it's killing me to miss> Lorde> BadBadNotGood... it's over? really? that's it?
I like the schedule for the most part, minimum conflicts for me. I just don't get the marshmello unopposed thing. It's like someone else is pulling the strings and trying to force Mr Mello on us. This is what happens when you have shiz like that on the lineup, they go unopposed at a perfect night slot that Umph should be in.
But really, who's trying to make us like Marshmello? I haven't seen a single positive comment about him, here or Reddit. He seems like an EDM Nickelback.
This is maybe my biggest conflict along with chance and warpaint. I'm leaning towards Kiwanuka and chance but I've never seen any of them so what do I know
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

not a radiohead fan, eh?
2014 was a pretty good lineup but i wouldn't put it in my top 5.
2007 is actually one of my favorite lineups, no one knew the police were gonna come and be boring. it benefits from the passage of time, but that lineup was pretty stacked top to bottom.

A very simple fix would be to have Shpongle 1:00-3:00 (instead 1:00-2:00) and to have the superjam be normal length.

Love Radiohead. I just think the 2014 lineup kept rolling all the way down and is more relevant now when you look back at it.
On Saturday that year, the initial (they went on to slightly fuck it up) schedule had it to where we could see First Aid Kit -> Bobby Womack -> Damon Albarn -> Chromeo -> Cut Copy -> James Blake -> Jack White -> Nick Cave -> Darkside
When you look at this year's Saturday initial schedule, it's no surprise to me that people long for 2014.

Can people give their reasoning for the Mike K Future Islands conflict? Having an equal amount of people post each artists name is the least convincing thing ever.

And if you didn't want to see Nick Cave, your choices were Frank Ocean, Flaming Lips, and a pretty good Superjam tbh.

I don't have any conflicts but this year just continues to reinforce that this will be my last year. I honestly don't care about the shorter set times, but I really don't like the options for late night. Already getting things together to make Coachella a reality for me next year.
I'm OK with the schedule, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to choose between staying at U2 when they play long and going to PtM. That would be a tough choice.

Comparing late night options then and now is pretty stark example of why people are disenchanted.

I knew Thursday would be bad, but looking through Friday I started thinking I could have made this an enjoyable Roo (musicwise), then I saw Saturday and any acts I wanted to see conflicted with each other. Sunday has about 4 hours where I'd be really interested in acts on stage.
Have fun everyone who is going. Without researching my unknowns my schedule would look something like this...
THUR Hippo Campus > Orwells > Innanet James > Lemon Twigs > maybe see what the scene is like in the campgrounds
FRI Klangstof > Kevin Morby > Car Seat Headrest > James Vincent McMorrow > Angélique Kidjo's Remain In Light > The xx > U2 > Claude VonStroke
SAT Lucy Dacus > Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real > Deap Valley > Joseph > probably Michael Kiwanuka over Future Islands. I've seen FI a few times and missed Kiwanuka the last time he played Roo. > Chance > RHCP I guess > Superjam
SUN Flint Eastwood > White Reaper > Margo Price > Umphrey's McGee > Skepta/Greensky Bluegrass > some of Lorde > BADBADNOTGOOD > The Weekend
