Well the festival we knew and loved has systematically destroyed itself from within.
I don't really see there being a festival bubble like I had before. Now I just see business taking the reigns, as it does when there's money to be made. There will still be great festivals around but the quality of said festivals have increased in volitility by a large number. Buying blind faith for a major US music festival not named Coachella is taking a huge gamble at this point.
Bonnaroo the past couple years has been like the Star Wars prequels. Yes, they objectively suck. But there will always be two groups that still eat it up - those that weren't around to experience how great the old stuff was, and those diehards who will keep defending it because it still bears the name of the franchise they love despite being a mockery of its former self.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
Friday-Big Freedia>Twin Limb>Strumbellas>Francis and The Lights>Cold War Kids>D.R.A.M>Kaleo>Tove Lo>The XX>Pres. Hall>Glass Animals>U2>Major Lazer>Big Gigantic
Saturday-Coin>The Front Bottoms>Rainbow Kitten Surprise>Jon Bellion>Tegan and Sara>Future Islands>Head and the Heart>Chance the Rapper>Cage the Elephant>Red Hot Chili Peppers>Flume or superjam
Sunday-Tank and The Bangas>Cam>White Reaper>Margo Price>Royal Blood>Mandolin Orange>Milky Chance>Greensky Bluegrass>Lorde>Bluegrass Superjam>Weeknd
Man, looking at the schedule really reinforces that I won't be heartbroken if I end up not going this year. I'll have enough acts to fill up a weekend, but.....sigh.
I love how everyone holds up 2014 as an example of the good years now
If you go back to older threads, 2014 was received pretty well on this board. Kanye was the only thing people complained about and that was mostly on Facebook.
2014 wasn't a bad year, but look back a few years and you can see the decline, especially in the late night. 13/14 was when I was looking around me and noticing the invasion of Dude/Bros.

Jack White played a 2.5 hour headline set, Nick Cave was there, and acts like Chance the Rapper and Darkside played well past 3am. Pretty solid representation of what Bonnaroo used to be about.
It was good. Not great
I miss running from the black angels face melting late night set because there was a secret deervana show somewhere that had a drunken deer tick doing all Nirvana songs with phosphorescence joining them on stage... While PtM is doing a parade on a Mr T float (might have combined years on that last one)

I will concede that 2014 was the year Roo started becoming less weird. '13 was still my preference because late night still had R Kelly, WEIRD Al, Billy Idol, 2 amazing Superjams etc...
But I'd take Nick Cave -> Darkside over seeing Nirvana Covers and Portugal the Man parades anyways. And I still think '14 had a top 3-5 Roo lineup regardless of its lack of weirdness.
Its funny to me that when people used to argue about Coachella vs. Bonnaroo on here, the cool guys who always (understandably) argued for Coachella would say things like "I don't mind getting a good night sleep anyways, so who cares about late nights." They'd make fun of "vibez" ad nauseam, which partially stems from the "weird" factor you're referencing.
The sets are staggered because they're probably predicting for 20k people to just stay at The Other the entire weekend, so if they spread the remaining crowd between the four other stages it wouldn't have been great.
Sadly, you're probably right on the money with that reason.

2013 seemed to be the real start of the late night DJs... But it was actually my favorite year personally because of the group I was with.

Hmm not sure what you mean. I think 2013/2014 had some of the best late night options ever. There might have been a lot of electronic in 2014 but it wasn't bad electronic, and there were still a ton of other great options. 2011 even had a lot of electronic music late night (and Lil Wayne). When I look at 2013/2014 I see music from 12pm-4am, I'm not seeing the decline there.

Last year was Phantom Menace and this year is Attack of the Clones. But don't worry, next year is Revenge of the Sith and while it'll still share a lot of the same issues as the previous two, it won't be nearly as bad. In fact, there might actually be a couple bright spots.
Random thought: If they just gave Jamie xx a solo set with nothing but a foldable table and a disco ball as his stage setup to go up against Marshmello I would be happy.

I think it was Wolfgang, Porter and Boyz noise that year, right? And pretty lights? It was a pretty Stark contrast I think to other years... Instead of ratatat, Gogol, shpongle, gwar, black angels... Pretty sure all 3 of those acts we're just a dude and a laptop.

With this schedule, I may actually end up seeing more club acts/Christmas ban acts then stage/tent acts. That is just the way things are heading this year.
Backup Planet and Flint Eastwood should be back to back on Sunday on the same stage instead of On Tap/Who but still doable. Black Magic Drum line in the Barn will be a fun set. Magic City Hippies, Unbreakable Bloodline and Creature Comfort will all be great. This will be an interesting Roo for me.

For the lineup given, the schedule works pretty good. I can see nearly everything I wanted to, there's only a few minor conflicts. And while it's strange seeing a short/weak late night, I rarely made it past 2:30 am anyway.
This is my thing, too. My wife can barely make it to midnight, she somehow passed out in the middle of LCD Soundsystem last year. At smaller fests, I'll run out and do the late night on my own, but after that trek back to Roo, I never end up going back.
I'm aiming to see PtM and the Superjam this year, and if they end at 230, I'm perfectly fine with that.
In 2012, the last year I went to Roo, I was able to make it to 4 am on Saturday after napping through all of RHCP.
Also extremely saddened by the fact that the throwback dubstep party directly overlaps Big Gigantic, who I've never seen before. Sounds really cool but I will definitely be at Big G.

Funny thing is, that is literally all he requested production wise during his last tour, a table and a disco ball.
