Yeah I've done Shaky Knees the last three years but Killers are a top band for my girlfriend and I doubt I'll get to see Eminem unless I go to a fest he's at. My concerns are the cost to stay anywhere near Boston. What are folks recommendations/experiences with lodging and how much did you pay/how'd you get to the fest each morning? Thanks a ton!
If you stay in Boston or Cambridge, you will likely pay a higher lodging rate. However, you won't need to rent a car as everything is mostly accessible by public transit. (That of course is dependent on your willingness to use public transit.)
If you were to look to the suburbs for cheaper lodging, near or just outside I-95 may be your better bet. Probably like Burlington or even Natick/Framingham. But however, you would have to commute in each day. If you were doing this option, I would drive to Alewife station in Cambridge - which is the west end of the Red Line and easily accessible to the Route 2 expressway. Then hop on the Red Line to Harvard Square, which is a 8-10 minute or so walk to the festival gates. (I live an hour south of Boston and do the Alewife/Red Line trip.)

A little less convenient, but you could also look for a place by the Oak Grove station in Malden and take the Orange line in to Downtown Crossing to transfer to Red

Some days in the past did sell out, but that was before the move from City Hall Plaza to the Harvard Athletic Complex. In the current festival climate, who the hell knows how it'll sell.
Meg is the anti-Charlie Watts. She keeps time about as well as a $3 watch bought from some guy selling them off a card table down by the fish market in a part of town some people would call seedy, but others would refer to as filled with colonial charm and historical significance.
So, no, I don't put The White Stripes anywhere near the top of Jack White's endeavors.
Good point. Jack White has always been about everything being perfectly together and Meg was just always fucking that up
There's a video of Jack saying that was the point of The White Stripes though. Meg didn't even know how to play drums and he didn't want her to get lessons because he wanted it to be like a "child" on drums. Jack has always said he purposefully uses old guitars and stuff like that to challenge himself, and he basically used Meg as his main challenge.

Yeah I was being sarcastic. Like you said, Jack's whole "thing" was always having things be imperfect and challenging himself, especially when it comes to live shows

Even then, Westside Gunn & Conway -> Noname -> Stormzy -> (alcohol) -> St. Vincent -> go to Eminem because everyone you're with wants to wouldn't be a bad day at all.
BROCKHAMPTON.
Also, was curious about what Dirty Projectors 2.0 sounded like live. This is cringey.
Yeah, DP weren't that great. Getting sandwiched between Danny Brown and LCD at P4K didn't really do them any favors.
If you dig Charly Bliss, you'll probably like Weakened Friends, who've been playing around the area for a few years now. Reconstituted from the ashes of The Box Tiger, who played Boston Calling in 2014, it's that "powerpop, but with messier guitars" thing that appeals to people who like their rock and roll both loud and melodic. I've seen them a couple of times and enjoyed them a lot.
If I'm not mistaken, and I may be, (Sandy) Alex G does the more-or-less one man band home studio recording thing and then tours with musicians who may not have played on the reoords. So, you may not be able to tell from the studio recordings that his touring drummer (if it's the same one who performed with him at The Sinclair last year) is an absolute monster on the drums, one of those few drummers who rocks and swings simultaneously and perfectly. If you're a fan of great drumming, (S)AG is worth checking out for that reason alone.

they were great at ACL. The bassist looks like he could be the long lost son of Bill Hader, the guitarist was also really good, he played lead most of the show. It was definitely a highlight of the day (even though it was so early in the day).
Have not but considering there's enough podcasts on there I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being different than a standard stand-up comic set. Even Hannibal Burress last year had a lot of video elements to his show which was cool.

Yeah I just did some research and it seems like she pretty much left stand-up behind years ago, which would explain why I've never come across it.
And now I'm stuck in a Jenny Slate Youtube wormhole
I don't think that she actually does stand-up. I checked out YouTube and found a clip from a movie in which she played a stand-up comic, but no stand-up as herself.
Everyone on the second line of that section of the lineup is an established stand-up and everyone on the top line is a podcaster or an actress, so I'm guessing that she's doing something else entirely.
FWIW, she's currently dating her fellow greater Boston native Captain America Chris Evans, so we might just get a real live Avenger wandering around Boston Calling, if they're still dating at that time (just as Infinity War is on every other movie screen in town.)

Yeah, already addressed, but thanks for the update.
And as far as I know, she and Evans are no longer together.
I can't get over how bad (Sandy) Alex G is as a name
Not as bad as Leikeli47, which sounds like an inforoo username
I'd love to see a festival sneak a couple of fake names onto their poster and then wait for someone to post on social media how cool that act was when they saw them a Primavera or at a basement show back before anyone heard of them.

Actually, they're back together now, according to Evans' brother who posted photos on social media of her visiting for Christmas.
And I don't believe she's ever done stand-up, just sketch. She was great on Comedy Central's The Kroll Show.

"Alongside Gabe Liedman, Slate was half of the comedy duo Gabe & Jenny. Their live stand-up shows with Max Silvestri titled Big Terrific were named best new variety show of 2008 by Time Out New York. In 2015, Slate, Liedman, and Silvestri announced that the show would be ending due to their busy schedules, though they continue to perform together when possible."

But yeah loved her on Kroll Show. And most things I've seen her in. Obvious Child is an excellent movie
Eh, it's questionable whether two or three people onstage together can be considered stand-up comedy, which usually is defined by some sort of joke telling or story telling designed to elicit laughter. If two or more people start acting things out onstage, that's sketch comedy, whether improv or written.
Believe me, getting up onstage alone and telling jokes is a very different experience than sketch or acting. Everyone should have the experience of going to an open mic, standing at the mic stand alone onstage, and looking out at the audience at least once in their life.

Stand up does not have to be solo. There are plenty of famous stand-up duos throughout comedy history.
The Conan clip is obviously an interesting gimmick the comedians and show put together, but the defining characteristic of stand-up comedy is that it's just you and the mic onstage, no help, no safety net. Once you bring a second person onstage, it becomes something else entirely. That other thing can be very funny, but it's not stand-up.
Listen to any of Marc Maron's WTF podcasts when he's interviewing a stand-up comic and they get to the part about their early open mic days. They all discuss their experiences and feelings about being onstage alone.

Take this bit for instance:
Thank you for being one of the only other people I know who are aware of this stand-up bit. I love it but it's so underrated.

Notice how two of those definitions use the words "typically" and "usually," implying that there may, at times, be exceptions to this rule?
Obviously the vast majority of stand-up is performed solo; it fits the medium much more naturally just like sketch and improv are much more suited to the duo/group dynamic but can also be performed by a single person.
And in case you're still unwilling to shift your rigid definition of "stand-up comedy" (people who are strict about comedy are always so much fun), i'm pretty sure a lot, if not all, of Jenny Slate's stand-up was solo. At least judging by the way she talks about it in her WTF episode.
Lastly, don't tell me what to do.
itrainmonkeys I was late to the Rory Scovel train but watched his last special when it came out last year and LOVED it so went hunting around for his other stuff and came across that excellent clip
