Arcade Fire playing TD Garden on September 15. Do we think that rules them out?
Eh I would think it's far out enough to keep them in play. I'm curious how their TD show will sell. I forgot if they sold out Xfinity, but I managed to get floor tickets a week or so before it happened. Granted it's a pretty far out venue compared to the TD.
Just checked and there are a ton of tickets left, including a lot of $21.50 balcony seats. At that price -- without tacking on service charges -- I'll pick up a ticket at the box office.
Even better, it's in the round and they haven't even opened up the balcony sections at the far ends of the arena, so they could open them if there's a run on tickets (i.e., college students check out concert listings once they get to town, and there's a spike in ticket sales).
Given that neither Tool nor Mumford played Boston in 4-5 years before the festival, I think they may want the lure of bringing in headliners who haven't been around in a while, since they'll move a lot of one-day tickets to fans who want to see that particular band. This would knock Arcade Fire, Kendrick Lamar, LCD Soundsystem, and Lorde out of contention for a top line spot. It also bodes well for The Killers, The Strokes, and/or System Of A Down headlining, since none of them have played Boston in years.

The shows only went on sale a month ago and their new album isn't even out yet. Judging by the amount of tickets left this will sell out sooner rather than later.

There will be a spike in sales as soon as the college students are back in town, but seems to me like there are a lot of available seats right now.

Like I said, tickets have only been on sale for a month and the album isn't even out yet. This was never going to be an instant sell out. If anything, they'll probably just have trouble moving those shitty VIP tickets.

With any luck those VIP seats will get converted to regular priced tickets.
Also, having seen Arcade Fire ten days ago, I can attest that Everything Now was super well received by the crowd. That song should be huge by the end of the summer.

That's great to hear! It took me a while to get into it, at least compared to their earlier singles, but I'm really feeling it now.

I found that it makes for a really good driving song
The fees on the cheapest tickets here are 102% of the cost of the face value ticket. What the fuck.
That's why I waited until the Garden box office would be open on a Saturday (last Sat, due to Hall & Oates show) and picked up a fee-free ticket for around $7 more than I'd pay to see a 3D summer blockbuster at an AMC Theater.

Yup, physical box offices are the way to go. I used to go to the Orpheum Theatre's box office on Park St to get tickets for Xfinity Center, Pavillion, HOB, and the Paradise.
Crash Line's Copenhagen Beer Festival just announced its performers and, unlike last year's lineup, this is strictly locals, including Tigerman WHOA and These Wild Plains. Decent local bands, but not the sort of acts you'd buy a pass for if you weren't interested in sampling beers.
The first track from his new LP dropped this morning, too, on Soundcloud. Sounds a bit like an unfinished demo to me, but it's Ted Leo rocking again, so I'm happy.

Ray LaMontagne is skipping Massachusetts on his fall acoustic tour. Could be at BC with a full band. An acoustic festival set of his would be a disaster, especially with the chattiness of the BC crowd and sound bleed this year.
A bit off topic, but figured some might not hear this short-notice news otherwise. Miguel is performing at Christopher Columbus Park in Boston tomorrow (Thurs 9/7) at noon, as part of NFL kickoff festivities.
I saw the VICELAND simulcast of his 2016 Gov Ball set and was very impressed. Ironically, I'm starting a new job tomorrow, so the last thing I'm doing is asking for a day off on my first day on the job. Hopefully, he'll play Boston Calling next year.
