We keep saying the fest is underselling, yet apparently three day VIP and Platinum sold out
Maybe it's not doing as badly as we thought.
To be honest, I think Eminem is mostly the reason for that. His shows are incredibly rare and you can see on the subreddit and facebook people are travelling from all over the place just to see him. I'm pretty much certain sunday GA will sell out. edi: Also, I think the only reason 3 day vip and platinum sold out is because sunday vip and platinum sold out.

Has any year of Boston Calling ever had a single day sell out?

VIP is still only around 2,000 people I’d imagine and there’s no shortage of people with money in Boston for the VIP crowd. You’d think with the built-in crowd with Harvard alone they’d be in good shape, but kind of surprised at the lack of EDM.

Harvard's students are gone by the time the festival starts

Yup, both days in spring 2013, the Sunday of fall 2013 with Major Lazer, as well as the Saturday with Death Cab in 2014.

There's no way the spring 2013 was actually sold out. At least not in terms of space. Idk where they were capping sales.
But I remember it being only like half full by the end of Sunday, and not even ridiculously crowded on Saturday either.
That Saturday had awful weather, and I remember many people unloading their Sunday tickets because of how bad Saturday was (despite that Sunday ended up being sunny).
It would make sense to announce the schedule by the onsale date for the aftershows, since some of the aftershows have started before the festival sets have ended for the day, in past years. People may want to cross-reference the schedule to the Sinclair start times, so they can decide whether they'd rather leave the headliner set early or miss the opener at the aftershow.

All the Sinclair shows are starting at 11, all headliners sets will be scheduled until 10:55
I'm not planning on missing any of Jack, but I imagine I'll be able to get to the Sinclair before Oh Sees go on.
I feel like there are a lot of artists who I missed last fall that I'm really looking forward to seeing. The National, QOTSA, St. Vincent, Alvvays, Perfume Genius, Oh Sees, Zola Jesus
Also a lot more hyped for Jack White than I was expecting to be, and hoping to catch at least part of Brockhampton and/or Tyler

True, as long as there's an opener whom you're willing to miss, you should be safe.
But you'd need a helicopter to make it from the Green Stage to the Sinclair in five minutes (which, admittedly, would be pretty cool).
NEWSFLASH: The Wilbur just announced David Cross on June 17. Which means it would be really nice if the schedule drops before noon today, which is when the Cross presale begins.

Just buy those tickets and resell them if the Boston Calling schedule works out in your favor.

Plus, getting into the Comedy Thunderdome can be difficult. I might not want to miss two musical sets -- one while I'm waiting in line and one while Cross is performing.
Still, it would be nice to have the schedule right now, to avoid any uncertainty. If Gov Ball can have their schedule out by now, so can BC.
The fact that no one rushed to post this upon its announcement yesterday suggests to me that many of you, like me, aren't wildly excited about this, but they have announced a Boston Calling film festival running for three days at the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square, curated by Natalie Portman. I guess she's getting her film festival, after all. I believe that its running Tues - Thurs.
The theme is "The Female Gaze" and the films run the gamut from Lolita to The Exorcist. This isn't what we've come to expect from film festivals in the way of new movies which haven't yet been theatrically released, which is what film festivals generally are these days.
If you're interested, you'll find more details on the Boston Calling and Brattle Theatre sites.
(I do wonder, though, if the announcement of the daily schedule was delayed in order to give this announcement the spotlight this week.)

For all the cheapskates and last minute purchasers out there -
Ticket prices (currently) for BC is $314 (289 face, 25 fees). Stubhub has a handful of listings already below 289 (including fees), a couple even under $250.

Thanks for the heads up! Going to buy my ticket later this week.
The months of May - October are filled with free live music in the Boston area. While it's mostly local, since most of the bigger free music events in the area are now defunct, there's still a ton of decent live music to be heard.
Things kickoff this weekend with a "Parents Rock" lineup at ONCE Somerville on Saturday (early) evening and the Harvard Square Mayfair on Sunday.
Be sure to check this thread for updates on free shows in the Boston area regularly throughout the free live music season (link queued up to latest post).
I'm still very happy with the Boston Calling lineup, and have liked the lineups I've seen from any number of festivals, but Austin City Limits wins 2018. Anyone who looks at that lineup and can't find at least half a dozen acts that they're wildly excited about has no business going to a music festival. This lineup is as musically diverse and balanced as humanly possible. This is the "something for everybody" lineup that the multiple-genre festivals aim for.
BC needs to have a dope-ass schedule or ACL is getting my money.
I'm kicking myself for not waiting for ACL to drop. I'm going to Boston Calling, friday of P4K fest and Osheaga. Woulda skipped out on the last 2 if I knew ACL would be stacked like that.
tl;dr -- There's going to be live filmscoring as part of the festival (although it wasn't mentioned if that's part of what's happening at the Brattle or on the grounds.) He's most excited about the ability of the festival to move beyond big stages and crowds to do smaller, more offbeat things.
