Unfortunately, Wilco won’t be touring in 2018.
Actually, they wrote that they'll be doing very few shows in 2018. Given that Eaux Claires turned into Solid Sound West this year, with Wilco, Tweedy, and every other side project in the lineup -- and that they haven't played Boston since January 2016 -- I suspect that Boston Calling will be one of those few dates.
Boston Calling posted their annual call for requests.
Take Aways:
-As usual half the comments are artists that literally played this year. People are weird.
-Arctic Monkeys and Childish Gambino probably tie for most requested headliner. AM would make a lot of sense assuming their record is out around that time, Gambino is tougher to say.
-comparatively very very few people asking for Arcade Fire. Still wouldn't be surprised if they're booked because they just seem like a band that will play Boston Calling at some point, as do AM and Florence.
-lots of calls for more local music. Seems like the best way to get that going would be with a small stage doing that all day.
-Portugal the Man seem primed for a return. Pretty weird seeing them blow up the way they have because of "Feel It Still." Doesn't happen to many bands who've been around that long.
-a surprising amount of people asking for Lord Huron. I've been hoping they'll have a new album soon, would enjoy seeing them on the lineup

The fact that people comment the way they do under their real name (and accompanying network, often even listing their employment) gets me every time...
And Boston Calling isn't really about local talent. Sure, they pay lip service by having regional acts open each day, but they are into selling as many tickets as possible with the biggest names out there. A extra small stage would certainly please people, but it wouldn't bring justice to the quality of the performers.

Completely agree. They've been about as good with local stuff as I'd hope they'd be.
I liked them bringing in some bigger players this year in addition to the up-and-comers, and hope they keep that up, but there are only so many to choose from before that well runs dry. I just want The Lemonheads and Dinosaur Jr.

Those Foo Fenway dates in July hopelly nip this in the bud. I was very disappointed when their initial tour came out and New England was nowhere to be seen, seemingly signifying a imminent Boston Calling placement.
Is anyone worried about the fact the the Harvard grounds were only a one year deal, pending review on how the festival effected them? (this was the reason for the no smoking at all inside the fest, which from what I heard, didn't work out too well). They haven't updated dates or any other info for next year...

Nothing too surprising. Been hoping we might get Björk, and I guess technically she could still play Friday of BC then fly over, but yeah, odds of that aren't high.

You're right about the transatlantic flight possibilities, and that could apply to any act. We've seen a whole lot of acts do Sasquatch and Boston Calling on the same weekend, and London-Boston is a shorter flight than Seattle-Boston. If anything, it indicates that those acts are in festival mode at that time next year and might make any of them more likely to appear at BC.

This is incorrect, Seattle to Boston is shorter by over an hour
If any of you loonies ever thought that U2 was ever an option, they are now not. Playing the garden in June.
Isn't Roo the only US festival they've played? I highly doubt Calling could have landed such a name in the first place. Firefly on the other hand...
Also, them playing the Garden means that shit is gonna sell out in like 30 seconds
True, but I can't imagine that they'll be doing only one night. If they don't do multiple nights at the Garden, it'll likely be what Bruce and the Stones have done in the past -- a few venues in one market, of varying sizes. Maybe the Garden and Fenway, Garden and Gillette, etc.
