Isn't Roo the only US festival they've played? I highly doubt Calling could have landed such a name in the first place. Firefly on the other hand...
Also, them playing the Garden means that shit is gonna sell out in like 30 seconds
True, but I can't imagine that they'll be doing only one night. If they don't do multiple nights at the Garden, it'll likely be what Bruce and the Stones have done in the past -- a few venues in one market, of varying sizes. Maybe the Garden and Fenway, Garden and Gillette, etc.
This schedule is filled with open dates adjacent to shows in the largest markets.
May 2 – Tulsa, OK – BOK Center May 4 – St. Louis, MO – Scottrade Center May 7 – San Jose, CA SAP – Center May 11 – Las Vegas, NV – T-Mobile Arena May 15 – Los Angeles, CA The Forum May 22 – Chicago, IL – United Center May 26 – Nashville, TN – Bridgestone Arena May 28 – Atlanta, GA – Infinite Energy Arena June 5 – Montreal, QC – Bell Centre June 9 – Uniondale, NY – NYCB Live, Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum June 13 – Philadelphia, PA – Wells Fargo Center June 17 – Washington, DC – Capital One Arena June 21 – Boston, MA – TD Garden June 25 – New York, NY – Madison Square Garden June 29 – Newark, NJ – Prudential Center
I'm especially looking forward to the now-traditional wave of "U2 doing a secret show in Davis Square" rumors. Ever since they did a five song mini-show at the Somerville Theatre in 2009, these rumors resurface every time they play Boston, most notably in 2015, when the rumors packed the Burren for a show that never happened.
I'm calling it, now. U2 is playing inside a loaf of Roasted Red Pepper Hummus bread at the When Pigs Fly Bread Company shop on Highland Ave at 2 pm on June 20.
While I still think it's doubtful they would, Phoenix is playing Sydney on March 3 then LA March 4. According to Google maps that's a 13 hour flight. Technically if they are able to do that, they could do the 7 hour flight from london to boston and perhaps have a day off in between. (this can be said for a couple bands i'm sure but that's just as an example)
Tho I'll point out during this entire Ti Amo album cycle, Phoenix have yet to do a proper show in Boston, with Providence being the closest a couple weeks ago, I believe.
I've got a ticket for the sold-out 12/8 LCD Soundsystem Agganis Arena show, but I'd rather go to the sold-out 12/8 Pinegrove show at the Royale. Anyone want to trade tickets?

Is anyone worried about the fact the the Harvard grounds were only a one year deal, pending review on how the festival effected them? (this was the reason for the no smoking at all inside the fest, which from what I heard, didn't work out too well). They haven't updated dates or any other info for next year...
Well QOTSA new dates have them looking pretty likely. Wraps up Friday of Boston Calling in Rochester, NY.
Royal Blood opening that leg of shows too
Damnit I've been trying to come up with reasons not to give Boston Calling my money again, even though I live less than a mile away. The prospect of seeing that Queens show again from a close spot would probably be enough to get me there for at least that day.
I'd be very happy with Chris Stapleton (who's never done a headlining show inside the Rt. 128 beltway) and The Decemberists in the lineup.
But here's the bigger cause for speculation...over on the Boston Calling subreddit, someone posted that one of the Crash Line organizers spoke to his friend's U Mass Amherst class and said that one of their 2018 headliners is "10 times bigger" than anyone they've booked before.
Which would put it in the realm of a stadium headliner, but I hardly think that the current grounds and 40K-ish limit is big enough to accommodate a headliner of that size. That only happens if James Dolan wants to lose money on a stadium headliner's fee, in order to make a name for himself as a major player on the music festival scene. Given the money he spent on paying Phil Jackson to do little-to-nothing for the Knicks, that wouldn't surprise me entirely.
This isn't necessarily anything to get excited about, since one festival goer's dream headliner is another's nightmare. My first thoughts, upon reading this, were Taylor Swift or Beyonce. You couldn't pay me enough to see either of them perform. YMMV.

I read that bit about a big headliner. I was hoping for Metallica or Radiohead.
Might do this as apart of a road trip with my lady. Thought it would be cool to drive down the eastern seaboard as far as Cape Cod. So this is offically in play for me. Yayyyy

Metallica would make a lot of sense for this. Followed by Radiohead. Big pop stars would not. Maybe Jay Z? Hopefully not eminem.
Looking back at past lineups, doesn't appear that Boston Calling cares/targets "legacy" type acts like the Stones.
Pixies are the longest-tenured headliners they've had, followed by Beck and Tool (the Replacements didn't headline)
