goggs during spiritualized sucks, but i'm pretty amazed by how little conflicts for me. also i guess i didn't realize it ended so early? does j tree park have adjacent non fest camping during this? only reason I see for that I guess.

I think there are people that live close to the festival site. I remember reading that cutting back the end times was one of the reasons they got their permit approved for this year.

So yeah, this was a good festival. Two outdoor stages and a tent, then they also had a cinema space that was really cool but everything that was playing while I was in there was pretty bad. There was some other space I didn't go into until Sunday that just has trippy visuals and you could just lay there and listen to white noise basically. There was another smaller tent space in the campgrounds where they did a bunch of hippy shit like yoga/meditation. Lots of good music, but I wish there was more variety. It just felt like everywhere I went I heard fuzzy guitar riffs or long ethereal songs, and I was craving something I could dance/groove to but never found it (Bummed I missed La Femme and Lee Fields on Friday). There was basically no security at the entrances from the campgrounds, so I was able to bring in my own drinks all weekend. They had a big open area with a bunch kinda interactive art for people on drugs. Food and booze was good but expensive. Didn't get in until about 8pm on friday, but here's a quick breakdown of things I saw:
Amazing: Iggy Pop, King Gizzard
Really Good: Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile, BadBadNotGood, Sleep, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Weyes Blood, Hope Sandoval, Twin Peaks
Alright: Spiritualized, Tortoise, Mr Elevator, The Budos, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Drugdealer, Allah-Las

I think it's pretty forking awesome that Gizz is being mentioned in the same category as Iggy. Bummed to hear that about Spritualized as that would have been the most anticipated for me.

To be fair, I don't listen to Spiritualized so I went in mostly blind, and I was exhausted/coming down at the time. I thought there were some amazing moments but for the time I was there I thought was either boring or too intense, for a couple of songs I had to close my eyes because I thought the lights were going to give me a seizure. Every song seemed like a boring buildup that would end with madness. I've seen mostly good reviews of the set after the festival, so it was probably just me.

eh that's not too off, and i could imagine it being too intense coming down. i've had sets take a turn because of not being able to handle lights/crowds/volume.

So what is the after party like? Does the music go late?
The schedule is posted in this page of the thread, there wasn't anything beyond that organized by the festival. People in the campgrounds continued to hang out and party as they do. Some people I met said they stayed in the festival grounds til like 4am doing random shenanigans, but I actually don't think that was allowed, the festival organizers/security just seemed pretty laid back the whole time. Outside of camp grounds I have no idea if there were other after parties.

I like the attitude of enforcement. I would like to try this.
Levitation broke my heart this year. I need some good fuzzy guitar
