Eminem The Killers and Jack White for Boston Calling. Jack White is still very much in play for Firefly.
Edit: I am also extremely confident at this point we are getting halsey
That would be pretty interesting if <Eminem - Jack White> hit Gov Ball, Boston Calling, and Firefly. Is there any prior examples for something like that? Perhaps with Europe taking so much of the allotted summer festival headliners the American side just said screw it and will share a couple headliners with every other festival.

Very likely, since Jack White is nowhere near as big in Europe as he is in America.
Eminem - Jack White - The Chainsmokers - Beck - Odesza
I would take this too, although is Beck around this summer? My gut is there will be at least one headliner (or someone near the top) that is rock oriented that hasn't been here before.

he's playing In Bloom Fest in March and just put out an album that is getting a good bit of radio play, i'd say he's possible. won't get my hopes up though.

What about Dead and Company? I don’t necessarily want that, but I feel like it’s feesible, and it would stick with the trend of Firefly booking Roo’s sloppy seconds.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside

Maybe I'm biased because it's not my thing, but I really think a large portion of the 18-30 demo simply doesn't care about Dead and Co.
John Mayer solo would probably be a more popular (and probably cheaper) booking in the 3/4 slot.

Given they aren’t playing anything else does not bode well, but I think if any festival would book a band like Green Day out of nowhere it would be Firefly.

Firefly makes some questionable booking decisions but they aren’t about to self implode by booking Imagaine Dragons as their top rock act. I would seriously hope anyway.

I really really want to believe the same thing, but then I see this from Nielsen's 2017 ratings...
What's keeping Goldenvoice from saying "Screw it - we have Coachella, FYF, and Pano to put together respectable and curated lineups, let's throw all the pop-rock radio crap at Firefly".
