True. We did a weekend in Wildwood, NJ because we were broke degenerates.
Edit: I think it was a long weekend (thurs-sunday). I forget though.
I think it may be a New England ish thing. No one in TX had heard of it.
Yeah I had never heard of it either. The way my neighbors described it was “everyone blacks and hooks up with each other”.
It’s an East Coast/Mid Atlantic thing. After high school graduation everyone heads to the beach for a week. Usually Ocean City MD for all in the Mid Atlantic. It is just a giant shit show. I had fun, but my god I wouldn’t want to deal with those animals if I lived by the beach.

Also an LI kid and never had this either. Just After Prom out east and then graduation parties for a few weeks.
The Firefly subreddit is full of people bitching about the amount of douchebros, particularly on the campground. Was it really that bad?
Firefly has always been college bros there to drink.
This is the only music festival I had been where I heard country music all around the campground. One of our neighbors didn't leave the campground after Friday because the walk "wasn't worth it, it almost killed him". Then we discovered he had been drinking nothing but beer and distilled water the whole time on the last day. Was a fun crowd where we were at though. We got a couple thousand people to yell "Shame" and ring fake bells while we were being evacuated in 2015. If that many people get a GOT reference they can't be all that bad.

I'm going to side here with the the crowd-is-totally-fine sentiment. Inside the festival, didn't have a problem once. People were fine everywhere. At the campsite, it was a mixed bag but mostly fine. My neighbors consisted of like-minded cool 20-somethings, a group of kids who just graduated high school who were friendly/a tad obnoxious but lent us duct tape and whatever else needed, and sourpusses who came from Roo who were upset they were no longer at Roo. 50,000 people at what amounts to a giant drinking party...you're going to have some bad eggs. No different than an NFL or College Football tailgate, there'll be a-holes always but it's always fun.
For people in the Northeast, New England - DC, this is the only truly drivable multi-genre camping festival. That will attract a ton of younger people who want to experience festival life without an hard commitment like Roo. It'll also keep 20-somethings with serious jobs coming because they can't take a week+ off from work.
Firefly is not Bonnaroo. It never has been and that's fine. It's always been 75% music festival and 25% football tailgate, it was built in the shadow of a racetrack after all.

As long as they keep it honest with the booking to some level and still book acts like Amen Dunes, Kamasi Washington, or Arctic Monkeys, ill be there when I can be

Firefly really isn’t that much more of a commitment than roo other than Roos heat, and Fireflys insanely expensive camping definitely makes it more of financial commitment. I really think most of the crowd can be attributed to location and lineup. Not that it’s a bad thing - there’s a festival for everyone.
After calling though, I really won’t be considering firefly for an east coast festival. It was really great.
I was probably one of those sourpusses to my neighbors lol
haha I've been to firefly every year since 2013, and at this point the main reason I keep going back is because of how easy it is to get such a large group of my friends together, now that we're all pushing close to 30.
That being said, I went to my first Coachella this year and I def felt like a sourpuss at times at firefly just knowing how much better a festival can be. I still had a great time at firefly this year, but damn there is a lot of room for improvements.

Summed up my thoughts pretty perfectly. Looking to make it to Coachella one day.
Is senior week an east coast thing? Closest thing I had to that was band camp.
South Carolinian here, senior week is a huge deal. For my senior week I split it and went straight from Myrtle Beach to Bonnaroo, best week of my life. Most people here choose to go to CCMF though.

Senior week was a big deal when I graduated in the 80's. We would all go to shore points in south Jersey for the week after graduation, but I think a lot of kids even went when they were underclass. We also had senior skip day where seniors would all skip school on the day of the school year that corresponds with your graduation year. (graduate in 1992, skip the 92nd day of the school year, etc)

Yeah we had senior skip day but not senior week. I’m kinda jelly now, us corn lovers don’t get to experience it.
