Of course, Primavera Sound Barcelona - Sant Adrià 2022 will be everything that happens during the two weekends in which we meet again with the Parc del Fòrum, but also everything that happens between one and the other. Which won't be much. Between June 5 and 8, plus the welcome day on June 1, 14 halls and spaces in Barcelona will host nearly 200 performances in an unparalleled Primavera a la Ciutat. A parallel and complementary festival to the festival itself, full of both second chances (and even third and fourth) as well as unique occasions to complete the musical offer for the twentieth anniversary of Primavera Sound. On the one hand, the public will be able to see artists who also perform on one of the two weekends; on the other, you will find in the program a multitude of concerts and parties that will only take place within the framework of Primavera a la Ciutat.
In short, five days to go from top to bottom of the circuit of theaters in Barcelona with the participation of Sala Apolo and La (2) de Apolo, Razzmatazz 1 and Razzmatazz 2, Sidecar, Paral·lel 62, RED58, La Tèxtil, La Nau, LAUT, Bóveda and VOL, as well as Poble Espanyol and the adjacent Upload. In addition, on June 12, the official closing of Primavera Sound will take place with the Brunch -On The Beach party. Do you feel like spending what strength you have left after the first weekend? Fancy a little warm-up before the second? Do you want active rest between one and the other? Or maybe say goodbye to the festival as it deserves? Choose your own adventure in Primavera a la Ciutat.
Close up. When we say that Primavera a la Ciutat will be a festival in itself, we are not lying. Starting because it has its own headliners, undeniable claims that at this point in their respective careers are not easily seen at short distances. The power of Megan Thee Stallion and Beck's collection of hymns is such that it can hardly be contained in a concert hall, but in the context of Primavera a la Ciutat it will be possible. Beyond the fact that his presence is also confirmed at the Parc del Fòrum on one of the two weekends, the possibility of approaching his live show or that of the soul superstar Jorja Smith or the still incombustible Interpol sounds like an experience like few times unrepeatable.
Club of clubs. Primavera a la Ciutat will mean the definitive celebration of the return to Barcelona's concert halls, but also a tribute to club culture in all its forms and aspects, finally reactivated as a key ecosystem for the musical and social life of any town. From Goldie's session at the Draft collective party to remind us how jungle and drum'n'bass roar when they really roar to the dancehall haven of Bad Gyal's GoGo Club, through Evian Christ's Trance Party, Hurricane singeli by DJ Travella, the reggaeton retrospective by DJ Playero or the debut of new clubbing values from here such as Gazzi or Yung Prado, the early mornings at Primavera a la Ciutat will be danced in infinite ways.
Your favorite label's favorite festival. For two decades, the story of Primavera Sound has always been linked to that of the most restless record companies in the musical world. A relationship that will materialize in Primavera a la Ciutat at the hands of several showcases in which the labels that explain what the present sounds like will exhibit all their potential at their own parties. For example, PC Music will bring together 100 gecs, Hannah Diamond or A.G. Cook in a celebration of the pop of the future, Young will host a session by Jamie xx, YEAR0001 will write another chapter in its history as a cult collective with Yung Lean at the helm, and 4AD will be represented by new sensations such as Dry Cleaning and Erika de Casier, but Secretly Group, City Slang, Brownswood Recordings, Hivern Discs, Nyege Nyege, Cønjuntø Vacíø and Awesome Tapes From Africa will also star in thematic events that, due to pure logistics, will have the aroma of a single appointment in the calendar.
Return to Poble Espanyol. As always, Primavera Sound 2022 will once again be an open window on the future of music from which to observe the artists and sounds of tomorrow before anyone else, but Primavera a la Ciutat will also propose a symbolic return to the past with a few concerts in Poble Espanyol, the venue where the first four editions of the festival were held between 2001 and 2004. On Wednesday, June 1, with live performances by The Linda Lindas (a teen-punk revelation who has joined the bill to perform at both Poble Espanyol and Parc del Fòrum on June 2 in her debut outside the United States), Wet Leg, Teto Preto and Rina Sawayama welcoming the festival, on Sunday, June 5, with Little Simz crowned as the new queen of British rap or Cuco's proudly Chicano pop, and on Wednesday, June 8, with Phoenix back in Barcelona for nine years later, the legends shoegaze Ride or the universal groove of Khruangbin, Primavera Sound will once again play at Poble Espanyol.
Only in Spring to the Ciutat. Seen in panoramic mode, the program of Primavera a la Ciutat is an unusual event, five days in which the stars will align, a kind of amusement park for contemporary music. But seen in detail, with all its peculiarities, it becomes directly a miracle almost impossible to match. Where do King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard come together playing three consecutive days, The Magnetic Fields and Hidrogenesse conversing in their own pop dialect, Shabaka Hutchings' Sons of Kemet sponsoring the best of the new London jazz scene, Danny L Harle and DJ Pastis putting together the Harlecore party, Bladee, Ecco2k and Thaiboy Digital merging into the boyband Drain Gang, Los Hijos de Yayo claiming their status as pioneers of trap in Spanish, Saramalacara and Dillom debuting in Europe as new Argentine urban stars in one night with the Chilean Lizz and Chill Mafia, DJ Playero unsheathing his alias DJ Naranjito? Only in Spring to the Ciutat.
The end of the party As a twelve-day festival cannot be closed in any way, the appointment on Sunday June 12 with Brunch -On The Beach on the beach of Sant Adrià de Besòs will serve to bid farewell to a historic edition at all levels. Nina Kraviz, Amelie Lens and Peggy Gou, reunited as the three big stars of the cabins, will lead a daytime party with sea views to take advantage of Primavera Sound to the last note.
A very special plan. In collaboration with the Escola Joso: Center de Còmic i Arts Visuals de Barcelona, all the spaces and rooms involved make up a series of illustrated plans to guide you on your route from Spring to the City. All maps are the work of a selection of students from the school.
Access to the Primavera a la Ciutat concerts is included both in tickets for one weekend and in tickets for the two weekends of Primavera Sound Barcelona - Sant Adrià 2022. All shows will have 15% of the capacity reserved for individual tickets that will go on sale at DICE on Wednesday, May 11 at 4:00 p.m. at a price of €15 plus distribution costs. The capacity of all the concerts will be subject to the capacities of the respective rooms.
The Linda Lindas being added to that kickoff show with Rina, Wet Leg, & Teto Preto is interesting. Ride joining that Phoenix/Khruangbin bill makes it strong competition for Acid Angel.
not the biggest deal in the world but I do wish they had put the schedule out before putting these shows up for sale
They have switched on Instagram from saying "two weeks before the festival" for the schedules to "soon" so maybe we somehow do get them before the on sale.
