I think more festivals in general could have benefited from a fallow year as opposed to just throwing together another lackluster 2018 lineup. Some of these fests have to be expect a loss this year. Hopefully it doesn't keep anyone from coming back. This is the first year of the decade where there's not an event I feel like I just HAVE to go to.
If you skip a year as a festival, you damage your brand. Glastonbury is an outlier in that they can get away with a fallow year.
Putting on an event that loses money every year/no one goes to can't do much for brand appeal either.
Glastonbury is like Coachella in that they are an established, quality brand that sells out each installment. They can do whatever they want.
If I lived in NYC I would probably skip both of these fests this year tbh. There's enough here for a good time (even enough to justify the price) if I just had to hit one up though.

I think the damage of a festival not being held for a year is worse than having it be underattended/unprofitable (since Goldenvoice can still spin it as a loss leader).

Probably. I was mostly just trying to say festivals suck this year, not to get technical.

I wonder why this fest gets so much hate?
That David Lynch Festival of Disruption event sounds awesome. I think this marks Jon Hopkins’ first US show in a few years, and it’s right after his new album releases. Saturday night’s $60 ticket gets you Animal Collective, Flying Lotus and Jon Hopkins. Very tempting.

I really don't understand the Byrne show at FH. Why would Pano even book him had they known this? I mean, the other 3 headliners they booked have all played NYC multiple times in the past 18 months, then with SZA and her 7 NYC shows in the last year, and now this? It all seems so sloppy.

I think Panorama is targeting the “I’d like to see Byrne but I don’t want to spend *that* much money to do it” audience.

It’s also key to keep in mind that New York is pretty much the music capital of the United States, so it’s normal for an artist to return multiple times on a touring cycle.

This lineup is full of great names and has only a handful of clunker-type acts on it. There's gonna be something worth seeing all times of day and some really tough conflicts.
If I lived in NYC, I feel like I'd be crazy not to go. Somewhat surprised it's not selling well, but I guess a lot of people have lame musical taste.
Governor's Ball is basically trash outside of like four names on Friday.

Serious question, can you provide some reccos from the bottom 3 lines of each day? Stuff that most people wouldn't be aware of but maybe should check out.

Without getting into the electronic artists which are understandably a little polarizing:
Charlotte Gainsbourg is a must on Friday. She is Serge Gainsbourg’s daughter and shares some of that same flair. Her latest album was mostly in French but is still very listenable in the same way that it doesn’t matter Sigur Ros sing in gibberish. Her album before that was in English and produced by Beck and is more accessible
Saturday, Japanese Breakfast and Jay Som are the highlights. They’re kinda similar and have a dream pop style, but Japanese Breakfast can have big arrangements and are supposedly great live
Sunday probably has plenty you’ve heard of but just in case
Shannon and the Clams have punk/rockabilly thing going on. Currently touring with Dan Auerbach and would fit in well with his Arcs-style work.
Seeing Byrne here would be awesome. Tickets for the three days is basically an equal price and since no ones going to be here you'll get right up close.
I don't know why people make such a big deal about low ticket sales. Like obviously it's probably negative for the long term future, but I love going to undersold fests and getting close for everything.

Yaeji is pretty great and could be cool to see in that parlor stage. I am seeing her at elsewhere in BK in April and am stoked for it. That show sold out in seconds and I just got lucky though. Its cool that this fest is another chance to catch her.

The fun part is that everybody is nodding along to this thinking everyone else but them is "a lot of people."

I’ve only seen like 5-6 of these bands, and I keep a pretty full concert schedule. Just because a band plays New York doesn’t meant everyone who is interested in seeing them has, especially at the very reasonable price per act that this festival offers.
