Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Touring acts have always played their own shows. This is not something new. There are just more festivals now so there’s more of a chance you’ve seen the name around before. The point is having all these different acts in one place. Those rare sets are becoming far more difficult to come by anyways.
Basically if you are local the only incentive to attend is if you missed it a few months ago or want to catch it again.
I don't see that as a problem/issue. There are always tons of acts that I can't make a show on their tour work out who I look forward to seeing on a nearby festival.
It's like asking "Why see a band more than once?". I don't really ever understand when people point out "Well it's not like an exclusive booking so it's not that great" or "That band is hitting up every festival" or whatever. If you like the acts and want to go then go see it. At times it comes off like you are persuading people to not do this festival because they could have seen some of the acts already.

How many threads are there with people explaining why they think Bonnaroo hasnt been good lately? Are they trying to persuade people to not go? I think they are just giving their opinion. That is what I am doing. If you disagree with it, thats fine. You are allowed.
I am clearly not the only one who sees this as a problem/issue with this years lineup.
For the record people talk shit about Bonnaroo because the lineup is trash. It's okay to see quality acts multiple times (especially when billed together with other solid stuff). The difference with Bonnaroo is the good stuff is scarce.

You weren't saying that this lineup isn't good (before your most recent post). You were saying it's dumb to go to this because you could have caught all the acts recently/in the future.

Hot take: There is no "good" or "trash," here. There is music one likes and music one doesn't. Objective evaluation of art that is processed subjectively is ultimately counterproductive.

But how are people supposed to otherwise have discussions on a music forum such as this one?

Yeah, the fact that this is all subjective and ultimately meaningless is why it’s fun to argue about, not a reason not to.

Shut the board down. There's nothing to talk about.

Oh, I am all for discussion, dudes! But, I dunno...I lost my appetite for thinking that people who don't share my opinions about particular music have "bad taste," or whatevs. Life is short and difficult, and if someone can glean a few minutes of joy out of it by listening to some tunes, even if they're tunes I don't like, so much the better for them. Maybe it's just a wording thing - "I don't like it" is different than "it's trash." Semantics, I know, but I guess I feel like words do matter.
But, ultimately, that's just, like, my opinion, man. I don't want to squash anybody's good time on the Internet (or elsewhere). Sorry if it came across like I do. I'll retreat back into my hedge. Again.
The fact that a day goes from "good" to "trash" because one of the acts is now playing a couple of additional shows 2 months later is pretty insane.
to my mind, the day became better when I realized that Byrne was charging even higher prices than everywhere else in the country he is playing for that show.

Also I'm sure there are a ton of people like me who love Talking Heads and are really curious and excited to see a David Byrne show but don't want to pay and commit an entire September Night to it. This goes for most legacy acts.
