I can see why he is saying that. The point isnt really a stage. There is no production or anything. Most people just stop off there in between acts or when nothing is going on.
It's a smaller stage, but it's still a stage. Looks like an open-air version of the Yuma from Coachella.
The Point is fun but Panorama has unopposed headliners. I don't think it counts. It's like saying The Coffeehouse Stage at Firefly means they don't have unopposed headliners.

Yeah, this. I guess I should have clarified. I mean, I thought the Point was a step down from Despacio, but even as much as I loved Despacio, I wouldn't consider someone spinning in there an "opposing act" w/r/t the headliner. That's just, like, my personal thing, of course, and no disrespect to anyone who doesn't look at it that way.
It is a little like saying Bonnaroo doesn't have unopposed headliners because the Kalliope and Silent Disco are still running.

Not at all. The caliber of DJs playing the Point is much higher than who plays those stages.
Dammit, was I supposed to say don't @ me or some shit?
I would consider Muse or Killers weird for Pano.. They seem to go for the mid-level headliners and stack the deck.
Post by festivalfurby on a few seconds ago So far Pano's headliners have been 4 Critically Acclaimed Rock Acts and 2 Critically Acclaimed Hip-Hop Acts.
I think Muse, Killers, Strokes, even Green Day would be classified as weird since they're all in the diminishing returns part of their careers.
Kinda surprised they haven't updated anything on Twitter besides their header, and nothing on IG except their bio. They had their socials covered last year

I get that Goldenvoice has a brand to maintain, but I find their marketing for this festival way too bare bones considering their struggle with its sales.
They try to do the thing where they just post the occasional picture with a song lyric as the caption, but I think they need to realize that this isn't Coachella that will sell itself in its own. They need to get more out ahead on the advertising front instead of just dropping a lineup out of the blue.
I don't live in NYC so I don't know what street advertisement is like, especially before the summer, but when I came for this last year I saw literally no ads for it the entire time I was in the city. I feel like not enough people even know it's happening.
I'm thinking more along the lines of an indie sub who hasn't been promoted yet. I know I'm probably off here but something like Interpol? Or a mainstream EDM act.

Eh, they have the posters up on the walls, buy I don't think gov ball or Meadows has any more street presence than they do

Except that wouldn't really be considered weird since they did it last year with Tame and Alt-J.
Also the general thinking is that this really needs a boost in Year 3. Good luck getting a good turnout in late July NYC to the HAIM & Portugal. The Man day of Pano.

I never really looked at 2017 as a split bill since the second acts were basically subs anyways, but I see your point (though it seems like we all agreed that Frank and Tame were ready for the push anyways).
Hopefully it will be more along the lines of Byrne and less PTM.
A "weird" headliner in 2018 is either a boomer/legacy act that doesn't appeal to the 18-25 crowd or a pop act that doesn't usually play festivals. Anything in between is usually fair game.
