Maybe, but I think their homophobic remarks are catching up to them.
Really? I haven't seen much to suggest that, unfortunately.
Migos comment to Makkonnen kind of went under the radar but Offset's queer remark has been big deal to a lot of people. So much so that Cardi B has been defending him 24/7.

I have such mixed feelings about this. I really like the top couple lines of each day, but then it drops off a cliff for me with all the focus on electronic acts - particularly Friday, on which there's literally no one who interests me at all after Charlotte Gainsbourg. The general lack of bands in the lineup is pretty disappointing compared to last year, when we had acts like Foxygen and Spoon playing the early part of the day.
Currently on board for...
FRIDAY Weeknd, Father John Misty, War on Drugs, Charlotte Gainsbourg
SATURDAY Janet, SZA, St. Vincent, Pvris, Japanese Breakfast, Jay Som, Lo Moon
SUNDAY Killers, The xx, David Byrne, Fleet Foxes, Greta Van Fleet, Chicano Batman, Shannon and the Clams, Downtown Boys
That's 19 sets assuming scheduling works out, which would be a step down from the 21 I saw last year. Hopefully, there are some additions down the road, even on the lower tiers.
I dunno. I'm actually contemplating whether the four acts I listed above on Friday make getting a 3-day pass worth it, or whether I should bag on that day and just go Saturday and Sunday. I know a lot of folks are excited on the electronic/DJ side, but for my tastes, this is kind of a big step down from last year. C'est la vie, I suppose.
How will the schedule break down likely for Sunday? My priority would be Fleet Foxes, The XX, David Byrne. I'm assuming Odesza would conflict with one of them, but would I be able to see all three?
The Pavilion and Main Stage don't clash too much, so you would probably be able to see all three.
XX, Byrne, Fleet Foxes, Moodymann, Helena Hauff, and Shanti Celeste all on one day is one of, if not the best single day out of any festival that has dropped its lineup. (Coachella Friday is also very good).
at this point its better than every other major fest in north america besides coachella but thats not really saying much... not gonna fly from canada for this lineup.

Jlin and Laurel Halo as well.
I'm not a Jlin fan and haven't checked out Laurel Halo yet but those are definitely quality electronic bookings regardless of my preferences.

Hip-hop has displayed homophobia for the longest time and people don’t care. People react, but then nothing happens.
Times are different now, friend.
I’m all for it changing, but it’s not. The hyper masculine hip-hop culture is the issue. The listeners just don’t care. Their combined 50+ million monthly listeners on Spotify is a testament to that. Their disgustingly high billings at fests also show it.

Their festival billings are really just a result of last year's success. I'd honestly be surprised if they were pulling similar or higher billing come 2020.
I think it's a decent lineup, with a pretty solid undercard & very good electronic gets.
No matter what you say, the quality of the lineup is above the NA average, and better than Gov Ball.
All I can hope is that some of these acts are also on the FYF lineup so that I don't have to fly to NYC for this.
It's really boiling down to what you're into. The undercard, for my tastes, is awful, and doesn't hold a candle to GovBall. Basically, they banked hard on electronic acts and DJs. If you're into that, the undercard is the shit. If you're not...it's kind of bleak.

not really, that's literally exactly what's happened multiple times with Migos. I mean it's definitely getting better thanks to people like Frank, Tyler, Brockhampton but I don't think this is going to seriously affect migos negatively.

I can agree you on that. Actually most of those acts are somewhat nice and something you might like if you give it a chance.
GovBall has some great undercard for sure, but when I look up the last lines, they are mostly comprised of no-name bands which will most likely be forgotten soon. I think that's one of the main differences of the booking approaches of two companies, specifically for these two fests.
So me and some friends are probably just gonna go that Saturday. What are the odds single day tickets plummet to $50 on stubhub like the first year?
I can see Saturday potentially selling the worst out of the three days, but overall I can see this selling better than in previous years. SZA and Cardi B alone could pull a lot of people.

I'm willing to buy that. I'm fairly open minded when it comes to new music, but I'll admit that the EDM thing has never really done it for me, for the most part. BUT, I'd love to be proven wrong. So, here's my story: I'm mostly a rock and indie guy wth a soft spot for synthpop and dancey, electronic-infused music (a la M83, LCD Soundsystem, VHS Collection, etc.), and I'm also into some hip-hop, although my tastes there tend to skew toward the conscious stuff and older-school material.
Given that...who on this undercard should I dive into? I'm particularly looking for Friday recommendations, since there's not a name past Charlotte Gainsbourg that interests me at first blush...but anything from that list anyone thinks might work for the likes of me, I'm up for exploring.
Maybe the worst take I've seen in a long time, kudos.
One great album. Not groundbreaking but scratches the itch for their genre really well
Assuming you've listened to enough Migos to say they only have 1 good album, isn't it groundbreaking that half the rap music being made now sounds like Migos did 5 years ago?
The Weeknd Janet Jackson The Killers Migos SZA The XX Father John Misty Cardi B Odesza
is really really...really weak.
there are no worthwhile headliners anymore. we've seen all the legacy acts. we're all tired of arcade fire. nobody ever really cared about EDM headliners. we all love kendrick but we've all seen him multiple times. there are no headliner level reunions left that are even remotely likely to happen. radiohead isn't always available. the US festival surge of the past 5 years or so eliminated the headliner allure.
the only exciting headliner thing that can happen at this point is (A) a beloved midcard act getting enough juice to get the bump to headliner or (B) big name pop acts headlining a big name festival.
